I was told that I am running an ashtma Shani period...can someone guide me about the details of the same and I am going through a really rough phase in my life...this is also a period o Saturn Antardasha which has escalated the effects I suppose...kindly help regarding the same...

It is said that if Ashtami shani coincides with Shani return, i.e. Natal Saturn placed 8th from Moon, the Ahtami effects are less severe for the native. Well, we'll see, mine's coming up soon.

I've been under ashtama shani and i never was conscious about things happening around me . Its going to end this nov. All i can say is time keeps moving and you wont even realise what is happening in your life, unless you stop and think of the past instead of thinking about the future.

Beginner/Learner of Vedic Astrology
As I’m going through my ashtama sani I’m tempted to share my exp of this phase. My moon and lagna both are in Aquarius and for me it started when Sa moved into virgo. It coincided with Saturn return and last dasha/bhukti (Sa/Ju) of Sa MD. Shani caught me unaware while I was busy making plans for future. So far this phase has been most traumatic, I can easily say worst of my entire life. I lost my job 2 times and still jobless, forced to move to another city and had to go through severe emotional trauma due to a strained relationship. I forced myself into solitude and became complete loner without friends. Entire period has been very mentally agonizing and depressing. My sleep patterns have been erratic and sometimes entire night goes without sleep, just in thinking. It feels like whatever I have earned in my life till now I’ll lose all by the end of this phase.
Sa is my lagna lord & AK and placed in 8th so I think lotz of unpaid past life debts. Life has been slow with full of delays n obstructions and since it’s a transit from moon one is bound to experience anxiety, emotional upheavals and negativity in thoughts. Shani pushes u to the limit…it shows the lows of life but also tells you from where you can rise again. I had lost the job at the start of my asthma shani…. during Sa/Ju/Ve with Ju casting aspect on 10H and Ve being yogkaraka, I got a job with double hike. Saturn return has resulted in many personal transformations. It has shown me spiritual side of life, made me less critical, more accepting and patient. I think if shani has to teach u something it will do so irrespective of its placement or rashi. For me Sa MD was itself very challenging…I’m just waiting for Nov’11 when both ashtama shani and Sa MD will get over. I don’t regret what I had been through coz now I know what to expect from life and where to take it from here. I’m sure Me MD will be good as shani never fail to deliver after giving hardships. Lesson learnt- just be patient coz time keeps changing.

The transit has definitely shown me the spiritual side, which is a great positive and I know the lessons learnt are for the ultimate good but negative thoughts do creep in from to time. I was/am not under Saturn MD or bhukti during the ashtama shani/saturn return but the transit has had an intense impact on me. I shudder to think how sade-sati will be during my saturn MD - still a few years away but still wonder.
I hope Nov 2011 onwards is betterfor all. Wish you the best!

I had my Ashtama Shani in 2007 - 2009. Part of this period also coincided with Jupiter transit in its debilitated state in my moon sign Makara.
Career issues; issues with spouse; general lack of energy; disappointments and humiliation from various quarters; were the negatives.
Positives were birth of my child; involvement in spiritual sadhana than ever before; some career advancement in between; some gain in astrological knowledge; better appreciation of my real assets; a mental attitude of patience and surrender.
Chanting Maha Mrityunjaya mantra; the 3rd Anuvaka of Chamakam and Dasaratha Kritha Sani stotram helped.
My advice is : Be mentally prepared to “Never succumb to ego“ & to “Avoid reliance on all short cuts“ & be satisfied with whatever is procured by hard work & remember the golden words “This too will pass“

My Ashtama Shani was great. Saturn in virgo (8th from my moon) was some of my better years recently.
No health issue, nothing really negative that I can remember happened. I do recall working on projects with friends and having fun in my career, my parents home (I was there at the time) was renovated and everything felt new and wonderful+ Much more "high class". Lots of guests/parties and overall a fine time.

No health issue, nothing really negative that I can remember happened. Is ashtama Shani counted from where the moon is placed or from the lagna ?
Let's say moon is lagna lord for a cancer ascendant native and is placed in 12th house from the lagna.
Saturn is placed in 5th house. So, is saturn now in astama shani during its present transit (Capricorn)? Or will be in astama in the next transit?

I didnt read through the entire thread response, ideally we all fear from Shani. But from my exp, wanted to admit that the best planet is shani provided we understand his importance. Shani says be responsible, choose your priority and be disciple etc.
These are realized by respective individuals based on the power of saturn, if saturn in debiliated or weak, the lessons are harsh through which we have to learn and if saturn is exalted the lessons are not that harsh, we understand or we aling with his principle.
Example : In my chart, saturn 6th lord in 4th house with 12 lord (moon) conjuction. So i have lot of responsibilities at home and should take care expenses at home, but it was in an enemy place so i didnt bother to follow saturn rules so when asthama shani started in thula for scorpio saturn and moon, i got an oppurtunity to travel abroad twice and earned a good amount and spent all of them in abroad in enjoying (12th houses of loss) after i came back to india 2 and half years i have to go through really great struggle to understand the value of money and saturn again gave me an oppurtunity when he was transiting through scorpio again got an oppurtunity to travel and this time i saved all the money closed my debts becz i realized my responsibility, further to add jupiter (wisdom, right and wrong) was aspecting my lagna.
So therby, ashtma shani in my regard is really good which will fix things provided we understand what shani is trying to teach us.

@Roops - Not sure if you are still active but I would like to know how your life changed once Ashtam Shani was over. Your experience is word by word similar to mine. I am 41 years old and my Ashtam Shani started in Jan 2023. I was in a stable high paying job and I lost my job in Feb 2023. I went through a hellish experience and then found another job with 50% hike in Aug. 2023. I started the job and it was the worse decision of my life. I had so much work that I could not eat or sleep. I used to work non stop under an abusive management. In Jan 2024 I lost my job again. This is under Moon MD and Rahu AD. I am still without a job and I have 8 months of Ashtam Shani still left. My Rahu AD will get over in July 2025. I have two kids and a family that is dependent on me. I am blowing through my savings that I had kept to buy a house. I am kark rashi and capricorn lagan.
