Your thought stems from the fact that Maya works independent of Ram. Maya brings the desire and Ram has no hand in it. FALSE. Every single molecule of this universe has Ram in it. This is adharmic. Exchange of trade/commerce, traveling to foreign countries for work etc is never adharma in our Shastras. It is promoted. But to demean our own country when you see the glitter outside is definite adharma. You lack objectivity in judgement of spirituality. You see few saints going haywire and feel that entire spirituality is doomed in India. You see china's infrastructure and feel that we are pathetic.
In front of every hut, there is a flat, Near every flat there maybe a bungalow scheme, Near a bunglaow scheme there may be a palace. Only an opportunist and thankless son talks about how shallow his fathers efforts are as he owns the hut. And starts praising the apartment owner until the apartment owner shows him the mirror one day, telling him go back to your hut.

Growth comes only when you side with the Lord, not with Maya. The growth of Maya is for deluded souls, who think this is the beginning and end of life. Roti is anna. Anna has Prana. Prana is Vayu(Hanuman), Where there is Hanuman, there is Ram.
For the philosophy of hungry people, the very reason they are in that state is because they have despised Ram. Had they not, they would not be hungry. This is deep rooted in theory of reincarnation. The more you act better towards Ram today, the better will be your state of affairs to have Roti in every life.
Don't run after Roti. Ram will not follow you. Run after Ram, roti will follow you.
