Yea I think Shivananda is higher than Manu.

Jan if the spirit is right, the contents will also be understood in right spirit. Desh Kaal Patra is applicable. While India does have hang till death, Europe/US have different rules. And so on in different countries.

Roger Federer is playing Lawn Tennis. Is this sport mentioned anywhere in Puranas ? .. He is still playing no.. Anyone objected ?

[quote="Jan"]No problem my friend.

I also want to apologise if I have offended anyone in this thread.

I have a leo ascendent with a lot of water in my chart. A bit impulsive and driven
by my feelings.

Hi Jan

In no way have your posts been offensive, infact I have learned a lot from them. You have given me food for thought, and been a worthy opponent for Astrosonuji in this debate! I have a similar chart to you so I understand where you are coming from. :)

Hoping to read more from you!

Dear Jan

Your stand is understandable. It is true all teachings cannot be taken verbatim. Specifically as far as Manu Smriti is concerned. If you divide the category of changes then it falls into Spiritual, Physical, Standard/Way of living etc. Out of these when these highly evolved saints prescribe changes for physical level, many of their followers who are not able to understand their Guru's true intent, then look for self-concocted changes even at spiritual level which requires absolutely no change at all, As these are common for all yugas. That's why Hinduism has baselined information from holy scriptures, whose evidence is the ONLY evidence to be relied upon, as per Lord Krishna's instructions in Bhagavat Puran.

So, the new Guru's may say, that there is change in the need of the law of the country, as one cannot be shaved on the head, made to sit on a donkey and have roamed around in the city as a punishment for his acts. Here the King's orders are to be obeyed and will vary as per Desh, Kaal, Patra. But taking this as an alibi, some unscrupulous elements extend the procedures to include the mode of deity worship, abstinence from Upanayanam Ceremony, GarbhaSamskaras etc.. also, under the pretext of intellectual garb. These are not to be changed in any yuga, unless specifically instructed in scriptures. Laws are not to be changed under the pretext and context of personal comfort and discomfort, fashion, keeping in pace with Mletcha kind of life etc kind of reasons. The context and pretext of the change has to be Dharma. And in our holy scriptures, King has been given the authority to run the nation as per dharma (not adharma), as per change in times. Various elements of Neeti Shastra are embedded in this thought process. So, this distinction has to be judicial and must be very carefully considered after considering vedic injunctions. Any transgression, takes the man back in the journey of the soul.

Hope this clarifies better than before.

For those who want to learn more about the thorn bush here is the link: http://sri-ramana-maharshi.[NO EXTERNAL LINKS PLEASE].com ... sivam.html

So if you are a thorn bush reading this, dont despair if you are not a brahmin by birth.

Would be interesting if someone compares the yogas of Nithyananda, Ravi Shankar and Jaggi Vasudev. All three are doing similar works. All three are yoga experts. But my personal perception is Jaggi is most open-minded of all. But Nithyananda has more psychic powers(i read that he cured the spinal problem of a Himachal Pradesh Police constable who was in the team which arrested him just by touch).

Guys,

Here's quoting from this webpage on Carvakas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C4%81rv%C4%81ka

'The Cārvāka school of philosophy had a variety of atheistic, materialistic, and naturalistic beliefs.

No life after death

The Carvaka believed there was no afterlife, no life after death

Springing forth from these elements itself
solid knowledge is destroyed
when they are destroyed—
after death no intelligence remains.

Naturalism

The Carvaka believed in a form of naturalism, that is that all things happen by nature, and come from nature (not from any deity or Supreme Being).

Fire is hot, water cold,
refreshingly cool is the breeze of morning;
By whom came this variety?
They were born of their own nature.

Sensual indulgence

Unlike many of the Indian philosophies of the time, the Carvaka believed there was nothing wrong with sensual indulgence, and that it was the only enjoyment to be pursued.

That the pleasure arising to man
from contact with sensible objects,
is to be relinquished because accompanied by pain—
such is the reasoning of fools.
The kernels of the paddy, rich with finest white grains,
What man, seeking his own true interest,
would fling them away
because of a covering of husk and dust?
While life remains, let a man live happily,
let him feed on butter though he runs in debt;
When once the body becomes ashes,
how can it ever return again?

Religion is invented by man

"The Carvaka believed that religion was invented and made up by men, having no divine authority.

The three authors of the Vedas were buffoons, knaves, and demons.
All the well-known formulae of the pandits, jarphari, turphari, etc.
and all the obscene rites for the queen commanded in Aswamedha,
these were invented by buffoons, and so all the various kinds of presents to the priests,
while the eating of flesh was similarly commanded by night-prowling demons."'

Thanks for that link Kandan Ji . :)

Abhiit,

I am an incurable optimist since always, but I don't show it off because I feel, mere optimism pe logo ka nazar lag jayega. I hope to achieve everything I have wished for, someday. I will not give up on my dreams, ever. Hope is the other name of life, and I live that belief. :)

STANDING
in the course of this thread i went from "nothing" to "advaitin" to "dwaitin" and now a charvaka, please let "nothing" come back (but with some good music)
Basab

Tell me something, Abhijit, what has my being a charvaka got to do with my never dying spirit? Didn't understand the connection. :?

charvaka philosophy according to kautilya is considered one of the 3 "logical" philosophies! "Whatever i percieve is the truth."
It maybe logical , and sounds fun, but i think i can't really jive with it

Charvaka goes by "live in the moment"....since you are the eternal optimist...i saw the connection

Aseem,

It may not be the most auspicious muhurtha, but it is one of the most auspicious days, and about standing, use a stick to balance yourself on one leg, but do stand.

Abhijit,

I discovered this talent of mine, of being a poet, after I became the fan of the actress. I wrote 15-16 shayaris/poems in 2 days for her--the inspiration to write the first one came to me one day at the middle of the night. I woke up at 2 am, and with the torchlight of my mobile phone to see in the darkness, I wrote a 4 liner in Hindi (though I am a Bengali!). The rest of them also I wrote in Hindi. :)

Yes, I am the upholder of the Charvaka philosophy. Astrosonu may be an expert on Vedic knowledge and living that philosophy, but he is nil in this Charvaka philosophy, while I am living it.

Abhijit:

I do hope you will record all this dialogue between Me and Astrosonu, as M recorded all the sayings of Sri Ramakrishna and got it published in the form of a book, and publish a book titled 'THE GREATEST DEBATE OF THE 21ST CENTURY', and whoever would want to read the book on this debate will not get a rebate as far as the price of the book is concerned.
Basab

Aseem,

I don't write on Charvaka philosophy, I live that philosophy! And the main attraction of the book is that it won't have dry theories, but examples from real life: I have shared my thoughts on my favourite actress: how I think of her as Goddess: that is being a Charvaka.
