hello respected members
I have heard that person should take care while donating as donation at wrong place may affect adversely. I have read some rules like.
1. If jupiter is the lord of 7th or ninth ,one should not donate His/her Used clothes as by doing this person may become clothless(too poor)
2.If a planet is exalted or in its own house , the person should not donate things related to that planet.
etc
I have a very limited knowledge over this topic so i request to Learned members of this forum to please explore this topic , and please tell the do's and dont's of donation so that people may not get adverse results of donation.
thanks and regards:
pradeep.

Dear P stranger,
I dont think that the dictum you have propounded has any astrological basis.Supposing a planet is exalted in your chart it is more likely that you are blessed with the things that the planet signifies and it is natuaral that you donate them easily as you have excess of it.
Actually i have an exalted venus and if at all i have donated anything other than money, it is clothes. So what you have written does not sound convincing.
regards
ramanan

P.stranger,
I agree with Ramanan-ji on "I dont think that the dictum you have propounded has any astrological basis".
However what you have stated in the first statment, "I have heard that person should take care while donating as donation at wrong place may affect adversely." is very much true according "dharma shastras".
The foremost dharma shastras for the present kalpa is manusmriti. Second to it, the most prominent one that has come down to "practice format" for Hindus in this yuga is the "Yagnavalkya smriti" (YS).
YS #198 onwards describes "daana". In #202 it states: "A gift should not be accepted by one who
is destitute of learning and austerities. By so accepting he leads the donor down as well as himself."
This is confirmed by Krishna in BG 17.22 "The gift or charity that is given at a wrong place and time, to unworthy persons, without respect , or with insult, is declared to be tamasik"
YS ponders about "unworthy persons" and has this to say,
"Fitness does not arise by mere learning or
austerities. Where conduct and these two dwell, that is declared to be the fit recipient."
The commentator goes on to include this,
"How then (complete fitness arises)? Where there exists in a person with these two " learning and austerities*' together with ** conduct" or practical observance (of the rules of the law) as also Brahmanical birth (which is indicated by the word **cha" or "and" in the original), that has been declared
by Manu and the rest as the completely fit recipient."
How to give? YS #201 says "A cow, land, sesamum, gold &c., should be given to a fit person with honor. The knowing man desiring his welfare should not give anything to an unfit person."
The commentator adds qualifying "with honor" as "with the giving of water &c., together with other supplementary ceremonies as ordained by the Sastras"
