Hi elipsis (edited now),
I like the way you analyze charts. For beginners in astrology can you advise what do you recommend as a start for journeying into readings. Like which books to read and what sadhana etc will bear fruits to an ardent student of astrology.
Thanks

Thanks for making my user id look cool...
well...to start off you must learn Parashari system, its quite easy and fun to learn. Then you must proceed to Jaimini system. If you want you can join a course at BVB (bharathiya vidya bhavan), they'll be happy to teach you the in and outs of vedic astrology.

- jaimini system > Sure would look into it. But need to be in parashari system for some more years.
- BVB -> I don't know if one exists in chennai where i stay. Will check if they have a course offered here. I know they are in Delhi though.

Some comments about the ideas of Frank Hiedman :
He practises both Tropical and Sidereal Astrology. As such some concepts may conflict although he judiciously compartmentalize what concepts that can be used in Sidereal, what in Tropical and what that can be used in Sidereal and Tropical simultaneously.
One concept which he brought up was the "bucket" which is just a special case of the concept of "singleton" in Tropical Astrology. A planet with no planets two signs ahead and two signs in front is powerful and is called a bucket. No wonder you mention this to the forum that such a planet is good and strong in an earlier post.
As I brought up also earlier, Nadi Astrology says planets in the company of others do better (this again is just a case of Vesi and Vosi Yoga extended to a few more houses). Saturn and Jupiter, the two giants, must not be "lonely" in order for the person to do well in his career and to lead an auspicious life respectively.
I suppose this is the case that in Western Countries individuality is stressed while in Eastern Societies, the community is highly prized.
Still Nadi Astrology has a lot of cases showing the veracity of its dictum that Jupiter and Saturn should not stand alone in order for the individual to do well.
The other thing he brought up was that Mars, Jupiter and Saturn special aspects are more powerful than the conjunction and the 7th aspect.
7th aspect mabye, but I doubt it now after my recent reasoning in another post. Conjunction definitely no. But I have yet to read the details of the charts he used to support his case but in Sidereal I do find the conjunction effects as very strong.
Also he said that if a planet is placed in the sign of Mars, Jupiter or Saturn and is aspected by them, it is as good as mutual aspect.
I think the aforementioned case is just that Mars, Jupiter or Saturn is dispositing the said planet in question AND aspecting it..........so the Sambandha relationship is very strong. But is it of the same strength as mutual aspect? I doubt it. For this point, he does not have charts to support his point. Nevertheless, Sidereal has taken such a case into account, although not classifying as the same strength as mutual aspect, so even if it is true, it can be safely ignored.

This is very much true, even vedic astrology has mentioned it. We often hear about planets being hemmed between Moon, if you experiment a bit you'll see that this applies not only to moon but all planets. So Sunapha, Anapha and Durandhara Yoga applies not just to moon but all planets.Khoo Hock Leong wrote:Elipsis :

well..according to nadi, if saturn alone aspects mars then its going to give epic scale success, mutual aspects between saturn and mars (or other planets) can work for you and against you. For example: if saturn aspects mars in 10th then you'll probably inherit property from your elder siblings (4th aspect on Saturn) but at the same time you'll inherit their bad karma(10th-karma). It sort of shows the enmity between Saturn and Mars, even though a fortunate combination it can turn against you whenever there is a chance. But say if Mars is in 3rd from Saturn then you'll notice the person suffer a lot due to enormous restrictions placed over how he could use the Martian energy, the native becomes frustrated but disciplined - his reactions will be slow, controlled and once he goes past his 40s you'll see energies coming in control, he'll start his own business, industry or whatever depending on how well the other planets are situated. Mars will be totally out of control when not placed under restrictions (special aspects) of bigger planets like Jupiter and Saturn ...whenever karmic energies isn't controlled or tamed in for a certain cause you'll see bad things happen to people. A car crash is an example of the out of control mars, for such people red traffic light means green.

Hi elipsis ji,
For such people red is green....good one.
Can you help me with a question? I posted it earlier but it got rejected for lack of dob. I have a general question. I see different versions from many. For a dhanur lagna, sun is 9th L, a trikona Lord. He is a natural malefic but. How would sun behave if he is posited in 4th house unaspected by any other malefic/benefic during his dad a or overall.

Your question may not be accurate...its very difficult to tell exactly without the birth chart but trikona lords do very well in whichever house they are placed, at least in their mahadasa. Sun in the 4th for Sagittarius can mean father will have property - such as house or farmlands or it can also mean the native will lose father at early age or father may live very far away from the native.

Hi,
For a saggitarius lagna Sun is a trikona lord. I read Trikona lords do good to the houses they are posited in, or aspect upon.
Having said this, why do you mark that Sun in 4th house could indicate early loss of father. Is it because Sun is a natural malefic, and regardless of being Trikona lord, Sun will harm significations (father, royalty, ego etc). Or is it only during dashas Sun will act as a trikona lord.
I may be missing something very obvious in this interpretation. Please bear with me in answering this, as I have been struggling to get an answer to this fundamental predictive principle.
Humbly,
Badri

For example, what happens when venus is getting a special aspect from saturn? Does it restricts venusian energy disciplining venus?
Does the saturn's/jupiter's special aspect gives good/bad effects depend on whether saturn is functional malefic/ benefic to the chart? How do you determine it?
Mars in 10th from Saturn...4/10 is a mutual aspect gives benefits from elder siblings but also you are sharing their karma. Always be careful when you inherit something because you will receive their karma along with the inheritance. If Saturn alone aspects mars then Mars must be in the 3rd from Saturn which is good.ashtalakshmi wrote:Elipsis ji, did you mean mars giving 4th aspect to saturn in 10th?elipsis wrote:

yes, saturn's aspect on Venus is good but the person won't be happy. Mars doesn't mind hardships but Venus does...

Also two ways to look at chart:
Without Lagna: what God has created for you
With Lagna: Karmic restrictions that may block the full effects of planets. So if there is a special aspect but in the 8th bhava it means bad karma limits you from making good use of the combinations.

Thank you Elipsis ji, your reply was very very informative.
You said the inheritence would be from elder sibling because mars denotes brothers?
If there is such a mutual aspect between saturn and other planets , can you list which planet denotes what kind of relationship? Sorry to trouble you.
Sharing the karma along with the inheritence is 100% true which I have seen practically happen to someone close to me.

In my daughter's chart, 7th and 12th lord mars in leo is aspected by saturn from 2nd house . Now after reading your statement, I am happy about that aspect since it will be a disciplining aspect to mars
Saturn denotes elder brothers, Mars denotes younger male siblings. Moon denotes elder sister, Venus denotes younger sister and Mercury Second younger sister. There is a slight confusion among astrologers on this regard - they say whichever sister behaves motherly towards siblings will denote Moon...so the debate is still on.ashtalakshmi wrote:Thank you Elipsis ji, your reply was very very informative.

Mars in 10th from Saturn will create confrontations with brothers. 4th house or 4th aspect always denotes a closed room, house, vault or a place of treasure...so Mars will make his "special" aspect on Saturn to get his property while Saturn curses Mars in return. This will affect the person mentally or physically but finances will definitely improve (probably good for medical bills
4th house from any planet will denote the treasure of that planet and when that house is afflicted or occupied by unfriendly planets....like 4th from mars occupied by Rahu can be devastating (grandad curse).
Mercury in 3rd from Saturn - failures in education (unless you want to study after 40)
Sun in 3rd from Sa - bad for father
Venus in 3rd from Sa - controlled expenses but good after 30/40
Jupiter in 3rd from Sa - restriction on movements, bad for physical activities such as sports.
Yes, this is a good combination...she'll do very well in life (and also her husband). In my daughter's chart, 7th and 12th lord mars in leo is aspected by saturn from 2nd house . Now after reading your statement, I am happy about that aspect since it will be a disciplining aspect to mars

very interesting. i have aries lagna (rahu in lagna) with Venus, Mercury, and Mars in the 4th house of Cancer. Saturn is in the 7th house Libra (with ketu) so obviously Saturn aspects all 3 of these planets and Mars mutually aspects Saturn. Jupiter is retrograde in the 10th of Capricorn so also aspects all 3 of those planets as well.
My girlfriends father has been speaking to me of inheriting his large property if he was to pass. This thread has me kind of wary of that now.
Also, my Father died when I was 1 month old. My Sun is well placed in the 5th house of Leo and aspects Moon in the 11th house so I'm not sure what was the cause.

You made it very clear Elipsis ji.So incase the above situation is reverse like rahu giving 4th aspect to Mars is also the same kind of situation right? A curse from grandad?elipsis wrote:

Suppose if there is a mutual aspect between moon and saturn with moon's 4th aspect on saturn , and if the native is the younger one after two sisters, does it still mean the elder sister(one or both) might inherit some thing from the brother along with his karma?
Or should we consider the mother instead of the sister?
Because I am I am seeing two cases in reality where both has saturn moon mutual aspect but in one chart it is moon aspecting saturn by 4th and in another person's chart saturn giving 4th aspect to moon. But in both cases, the sisters getting lot of financial help from their younger brothers.
Also in both the charts, mars( which denotes the younger brother) is in trine to moon .Now I doubt if this trinal relationship between mars and moon might be the reason .In one chart moon is in 6th house and in the other chart moon is in 8th house from lagna.
So basically Saturn will restrict the planetary significations whether it is for good or worse depends on the native's karmic knots as you said earlier.elipsis wrote: Mercury in 3rd from Saturn - failures in education (unless you want to study after 40)

Thanks a lot for all your inputs Elipsis ji.Your explanations are very much thought provoking.elipsis wrote: Yes, this is a good combination...she'll do very well in life (and also her husband).
Moon can only maintain 7/7 mutual aspect (desires) with Saturn...Here I am talking about special aspects of Planets - Moon doesn't have 4th aspect, at least Moon doesn't have special aspects like Mars(4,7,8), Saturn(3,7,10) and Jupiter(5,7,9). It only has a partial aspect which is not taken into account but what you are talking about is relationships between 2 planets like Saturn and Moon having a kendra relation then it will bring additional burden to the native's mother or sister. A mutual aspect occurs when 2 planets aspect each other at the same time, but Moon in 10th from saturn receives Saturn's karma but Moon itself doesn't make a special aspect on Saturn.ashtalakshmi wrote:You made it very clear Elipsis ji.So incase the above situation is reverse like rahu giving 4th aspect to Mars is also the same kind of situation right? The trinal relationship is because of past life credits, so its not a curse giving relation nor it is confrontational but from the perspective of the lagna it may be bad because of the 8th house deals with inheritance as well as misdeeds.Because I am I am seeing two cases in reality where both has saturn moon mutual aspect but in one chart it is moon aspecting saturn by 4th and in another person's chart saturn giving 4th aspect to moon. But in both cases, the sisters getting lot of financial help from their younger brothers.

Yes, but even so its best to understand the limits of one person because whenever Saturn makes a special aspect on a planet it shows that Saturn really wants to control that aspect of life for some reason. For us there is no reason to control one's educational progress - Mercury in 3rd from Saturn but there could be many reasons for Saturn because it wants you to push you into some karmic destiny that you were a part of in past lives. I remember one person who has Mercury in Sagittarius and Saturn in libra, he couldn't study MBBS even when he was offered the seat - there was so many other obstacles that he had to endure- abuse in college by students and teachers, donation problems...etc So he withdrew and took engineering after 1 year.
So basically Saturn will restrict the planetary significations whether it is for good or worse depends on the native's karmic knots as you said earlier.

For Sagittarius, Aries will be operating during the first part of life, the dual signs are too strong for children to cope with at early life....so always read from Aries sign for Sagittarius with regard to operating of karakatwa and change it to Sagittarius after marriage or other major events during 20s or 30s. This isn't the part of vedic astrology but nadi method from the south.curiousguy wrote:Hi,

Yes, it does. If you want you can study Angelina Jolie's chart (4th June 1975, 09:09, Los Angeles, CA)Tell me one thing, is saturn's 10th aspect( not mutual) on planets gives some kind restrictions or karmic burden too?
She has 3 planets in the 9th house - Pisces, Moksha trikona
Saturn casts 10th karmic aspect on all 3 planets (Jupiter, Moon and Mars) from 12th house which is a spiritual bhava.
Jupiter - putra
Moon - Mother
Mars - Siblings.
