Hi all,
Someone just asked me about manglik dosha with Mars in the lagna. She was doubtful that remedial measures work for it, like rituals and pujas to try to eliminate it. Here was my response:

If Mars is in lagna, a person could be short tempered, controlling, pushy, unable to compromise, which can work against harmony in a marriage. It depends on the entire chart if it actually plays out that way. Understanding this can help address the karma and shift it consciously. Other remedial measures may or may not work, depending on what is done and who does it. If one does spiritual practice it always helps.

Her response:
Does understanding ones karma and trying to shift it consciously as you suggested be a part of the spiritual practice?

My response:
Yes, absolutely. It's developing Right Understanding which is what the Buddha taught. All karma stems from the mind, it gets healed by the mind. Mantra means protection of the mind, which is why it's the primary remedial measure, and is integral to puja and yagya sadhana. No puja or yagya is done without mantra. We improve the quality of our thought through mantra, and that leads to improved quality of actions (karma=action). Likewise, by acquiring understanding we improve the quality of our actions when we choose to act differently. It doesn't mean it's easy in either case to shift our karma, but always rewarding. So both spiritual practices and acquiring understanding can be considered remedial measures since both help to create better karma for our future.

Dear Vaughn,

This was such an informative article as so much stigma and misconceptions are associated with Manglik Dosha.Does Saturn conjuct Mars in the 8th house make a person highly Manglik. Can remedies work for such a high infliction as well..Can Manglik dosha ever be totally eliminated/Cancelled by rituals and pujas or its effect is just minimized.

Is it also advisable that a Manglik should try to marry a Manglik only?

I have Mars in lagna (Scorpio) who is also the lagna lord. He is conjunct with venus and Ketu. I have had a very good marriage for past 26 years. Please dont worry too much. My husband is not a manglik. In south India Mars in lagna is not considered as manglik.
