Avasthas of planets

I read a google book about avasthas of planets stating that when a planet is in bala ( infant) avasta it gives prosperity, kumara avastha gives happiness, yuva gives kingly states, and the remaining avastas gives failures and death like difficult situations.

Are avastas based on the degrees of the planets?
If so why do they say some planets give good results in the beginning 10 degrees and some in middle 10 degrees and some in the last 10 degrees?
What if a debilitated planet is in yuva avastha ? How will it give the results?
Are these avasthas actually have very little importance when compared to the distance( degrees) between each planet?

Do krishnapaksha moon always gives malefic results even if it has the highest shadbala strength in the whole chart?
