I'd like to know more about the Chaturamsha (D4) and how to read that , if possible.
I heard from a few astrologers online, one being Ernst Wilhelm who has a youtube video on varga charts and in regards to D4 he also said besides being primarily about property it can show wealth, like one having an abundance (or more than they need) in comforts, fixed assets,etc.
Anyway,
Im interested as it's one of the main varga's I don't really know much about,
meanwhile mine impresses me - with 4th lord mercury in own sign in 4th, conjunct venus.
And Jupiter, Mars, Moon and Sun all Exalted.

D-4, the chathurthamsa is also called the tureeyamsa. Mother, fundamental education, vehicles, property , relatives and last but not least " kshema " or peace of mind. People are more interested in knowing wealth in terms of materials but the real wealth is the ' state of sukha '.
Coming to the point you mentioned, you can see in your D-4, how and when you bought a house, or when you shifted and for what. Fourth house is the house of focus, 3r house shows the expenditure you incur towards purchase, ninth shows the bhagya part of having a house, 8th shows movement from the birth place and 12th to a foreign place.

I was at first thinking that d4 indicated wealth since usually for one to have properties, vehicles and education(which needs to be paid for most of the time), that meant they needed some wealth.
But you make a good point, that real wealth is 'state of sukha', / peace of mind.
As It's true, some can have a very small broken down property, only a used bike as a vehicle and home education yet feel they have all that they want and need, thus they feel 'wealthy'.
So state of mind is foremost.
Going by my d4's fourth house...it's gemini, with mercury conjunct venus in it. Venus is 8+3rd lord however.
But fourth lord in own sign. And I'm currently running saturn dasha (11+12th lord of d4), and sitting in the 9th...
it seems like a mercury period would be best for me to move or buy property or a vehicle?
Maybe during saturn-mercury period?
And what about Ascendant lord? (Mine is jupiter, in the 5th house - exalted)
or does ascendant not have as much importance here...?

Yes it appears so. Saturn sitting in bhagya should help in purchasing a house. Mercury as lord of 4th should promote it. Venus, being the third lord shows expenditure and as 8th lord can show the movement into the new house. Jupiter, as the ascendant lord in purva-punya sthana aspeciing the dasa lord saturn can advise the dasa lord to do so.
As 8th lord is sitting in 4th, some inheritance is also possible.

And what you said about 8th lord would surly come true (If I do end up getting a home in the next 2-3 years), because my parents always say they would help pitch in financially and help out in such a purchase. It would be using money from a savings they had for me since I was born, so basically an "inheritance", only without anyone dying.
