Malefic Planet Vargottama - ill effects or better?

I have been studying Vedic astrology for some time now and am in a quandary about the effect of vargottama planets.

Say you have a malefic like Shani in Simha vargottama, does this increase the negative influence/karma or does it alleviate it somewhat?

I have read contradictory information regarding this.

I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this!!!

Hi

Same in my case.

Saturn in Scorpio in D1(6th house) & D9(8th house).

Even though Saturn is a malefic but in my case lord of 9th house also dispositior of 10th lord Jupiter.

My understanding is Saturn(any planet) will give more pronounced effects as per the sign it is placed in.

Please share whtever you have read on this topic.

This question has still not been resolved in my mind. I have read people say if you have a malefic vargottama, in my case very malefic because Shani Simha is very inimical, then the malefic manifestation gets cancelled or reduced. Others say it only strengthens the malefic results. Recently when I learned more about the D60 chart, I found that I have Shani moolatrikona there. Parashara gave more importance to D60 than to Rasi and Navamsa. So I wonder about this...

I am going by memory about this, but I read a book by Mr. Rattanlal long ago, in which he indicated that vargottama positions coincide with the sattwik dreshkana for the sign and this made them stronger and less evil. Therefore, even in the case of natural malefics, such positioning would tend to mellow their nature in addition. You should perhaps look into your collection of charts and see if such is the case or not in reality. Ayanamsha will (or can) play a role in this, as well, naturally if the planet is close to a navamsha cusp.

Dear Rohiniranjan,

Thank you for your input, much appreciated! I believe that in my life Shani's blow has been much reduced. Besides the vargottama, I have Shani in moolatrikona position in D4, D12, D60 and exalted in D20. So there feels to be a mitigating factor here.
