Hi,

I am wondering if anyone uses the bhava chart and if so how. Haven't found much on this topic, though programs always prepare the chart and provide it in conjunction with other charts. Does anyone use it? Mine is very different from my sidereal chart. What does that mean, if anything? My birth data are: 17th February, 1955. 6pm. Mumbai, India

Does that mean you only use individual chart positions to compare? My problem with the bhava chart is that "as a chart" it does not describe me at all, whereas the sidereal chart describes me better.

Another point-I read somewhere that in S India 9th house, not 10th, denotes father. THis is the same as great uncle, and is preferred because in S India there are frequent uncle niece marriages. I am S Indian and my father was my mother's uncle.

Hi Maharani

Because of the way the Bhava chart is calculated, another thing I want to add is that the more planets you have that are in degrees close to multiples of 30, the more your Rasi and Bhava chart would differ.

The Bhava Chart is especially good for analysing careers through the mid-point of the 10th house.

As for your question on which house rules the father, 9th or 10th, you can check on my thread on "Three Ways to Juggle the Meaning of a House" where I mentioned that both 9th and 10th can denote fathers and what consequences they mean in terms of the mother!

Mr. Vaughn Paul has this to say in another of his website after he consulted K N Rao (the site is Astrology for the Soul) :

[quote]

Hi Malini,
I haven't seen that the Bhava chart nullifies the rasi chart. I asked KN Rao this question and he seemed to suggest that the bhava chart should not be given that great of importance. I wouldn't discredit entirely either one but give great importance to the rasi. I don't believe that the bhava ever cancels out the indications in the rasi. Hope that helps. Namaste, Vaughn Paul

This means that we can just concentrate on the Rasi chart.

Thanks.

Thanks for the analysis.

IN re: to my father, he was always supportive of me, particularly my career ambitions, when my mother was only interested in marrying me off asap. Of all my siblings I am the most like him-we had similar interests-and I miss him greatly since he died in 97 at nearly 80. He was a busy executive-always on a plane, so he wasn't always around, but was definitely the one who kept my family grounded and tied together-it took us several years to recover from his death. This is not to say we didnt have disagreements or arguments-but he was a remarkable man whom it was a privilege to have known. He was a bit of an autocrat, but a strong, caring, warm, and compassionate person. His nakshatra, Magha, certainly suited him! He was princely!

re longevity, he was a chain smoker and died of lung cancer. Otherwise very strong, and we always say if Dad hadn't smoked he'd have lived to be 100! He never retired and neither will I-we both like work! He was as sharp as a tack the day he died, doing business from his hospital bed. Given the hardships he had to go through in the first half of life, survival to 80 is an achievement and great longevity in and of itself.

Dont know how this is reflected in my chart, if at all.

Re my father's chart, as so many Indians, he had no birth certificate. I cannot swear to it but we used March 18, 1918 as his birthday in the family, He was definitely Magha according to my Mother. Alas we have no birth time. Place of birth near Palakkad, Kerala.

Thats interesting as I relate more to my Asc nakshatra, Ashlesha, than I do my moon, moola (a dark place).

RE punarvasu, yes you recall correctly. My mother is a bit depressed right now which I believe must be sade sathi but she is convinced its ashtama shani, but that cannot be with her moon in gemini and T Saturn in Leo, correct.

Which brings me to another question. Ashtama Shani for me would be Saturn in cancer, as my moon is in moola, correct? I noticed several posters express extreme apprehension about ashtama shani, yet the 2 years when Saturn was transiting my Asc were very good years for me. Any thoughts? Is it because Saturn is exalted in my chart?

Hi all,

In my chart, 1430 hrs, 2nd Jan 1965, Bangalore, India -

Lagna Lord Mars occupies 5th in Bhava and 6th in rasi.
My 10th lord Saturn occupies 10th bhava and 11th rasi.

I have completed my Mars dasha which was excellent.

Mars-Rahu made me write and write on contemplative themes which
I had never done before. It flowed and I wrote 500+ contemplative
essays, mostly in Mars-Rahu, some in Mars-Jup and a few in
subsequent bhuktis all in Mars dasha.

In Mars-Jup, a book of essays was published on a small scale by an amateur publisher in London.

In Mars-Jup, I had a miraculous escape from certain death when a
5 ton tree that fell on a car in which I was seated missed me by 2 feet.
I was in the rear back seat alone and was completely unhurt and even got out myself unassisted with my bag in hand. It took the fire brigade
45 minutes to cut and remove the tree and then cut the bottom plate of the car to extricate the crushed driver's body. The driver's head been inches from my knees when I got off unassisted.

In Mars-Sat, a book of English essays was published from New Delhi.
A German translation was also published in Germany

Mars-Merc gave a health crisis which was potentially life threatening
and led to hospitalisation but was easily and favourably resolved.
Long term preventive medication commenced.

In Mars-Merc, a Chinese translation of my essays was published.

I also got a promotion in my workplace in Mars-Merc.

Mars-Venus made me take a loan for house construction.

Mars-Moon gave me the keys of my newly constructed house.
It also made me sell some land to meet my financial obligations.

In Mars-Moon, a Portuguese translation was published.

So, overall, Mars dasha was highly fruitful marking several milestones in my life. Would this be the results of Lagna lord Mars in the 6th (rasi) or Mars in the 6th bhava (5th)? Perhaps, the bhava position "pointed" towards the results while the rasi reflected the physical realities? Yes,
I did overcome many obastacles to write in the sense that I did not go to
an exotic island to find peace and quiet to write; rather, the opposite is true; I wrote amidst the din and dust of a normal work schedule and normal life, snatching time amidst normal daily routines.

Views of learned respondents are welcome.

The following points seem to be noteworthy:

1) Writing commenced in Mars-Rahu. Mars in navamsha is exalted in 5th from its natal position. 5th is said to give authorship.

2) Mars is lagna lord aspecting both lagna and 9th house. Further, Mars occupies his exaltation navamsha.

3) Mars is in 5th bhava.

4) Mars is in star of Sun who is 5th lord in the 9th.

5) In rasi, Rahu is exalted in 9th from natal Mars and Rahu in navamsha is in 5th from natal Rahu.

6) Karaka for writing Mercury is atmakaraka and in own nakshatra Jyeshta. Mercury is in parivartana with Mars. Mercury also aspects exalted Rahu. Mars-Rahu triggered prolific writing.

7) It was not hard work at all but easy like breathing and what was written in free flow was published "as is". It was a purely spontaneous and joyful flow with no effort made to edit or alter anything. Mars is Lagnadhipathi and in parivartana with Atmakaraka Mercury.

8) In Mars-Sat, the first book was published. Is this a result of Sat in
11th rasi or Sat in 10th bhava? Sat in 10th is said to give hard work.
My job needs deep concentration and high alertness but no "hard work".

9) Does rasi show the physical facts and bhava "point" to "results"?
In this case, a concrete achievement (book published in Mars-Sat) in the public domain (10th lord in 10th bhava) and authorship (lagna lord in 5th bhava)? Or, is the result explainable purely in terms of rasi, navamsha and nakshatra?

Feedback is welcome.

Ashok
