Solar flare means a sudden brightening observed over the sun’s surface, which will release huge quantum of energy (up to 1/6th of the total energy output of sun). These flares are normally followed by colossal coronal mass ejection also known as CME.The flare ejects clouds of electrons,irons,and atoms through the corona of the sun in to space.These clouds typically reaches the earth a day or two after the event.Solar flares affect all layers of the solar atmosphere.
There is a correlation between solar flare and earthquake. Whenever strong solar flare appears, there are chances of earthquakes of large magnitude. The magnitude of earthquake is directly proportionate to that of intensity of solar flares. Sun either associated with kethu or in the star owned by kethu and moon in proximity to rahu or in the star owned by rahu generally gives strong intensity solar flares.Sun in fiery sign and moon in earthy sign in above combination can create earth directed solar flares, which is dangerous to earth.
Varahmihira in his Brihat Samhita has mentioned that the earthquakes are caused by the violent coalition of winds and their striking the earth in consequence. As per Vedic astrology the following planetary combinations can cause earthquakes.
1] There should be a relationship between sun and moon, either by yoga or by aspect. (I.e. earth quakes or natural calamities are bound to happen close to solar eclipse)
2] There should be some sort of yoga, aspect or connection between prime malefic Saturn and Mars.
3} Moon& mercury must be placed very close or related with each other
4] One of the major planets should be in retrograde
5] There should be severe affliction to the 8th house or its lord (8th house denotes Mass death and tragedies}
6] Earth-quakes or disasters generally happen when there are many planets in or near the Cardinal signs i.e. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
7} 12th lord and 4th lord relationship between 8th lord or 8th house is found to be fatal in most of the earthquakes
8] Relationship of nodes (Rahu and kethu} with prime malefics and 8th&12th lord
9] Relationship between fiery and airy signs (Aries-Libra) can result in to devastating incidents.
10} Jupiter tansiting taurus found to be more prone to earthquake or calamities
It should be noted that the solar flares connected with the above kind of planetary combinations not necessarily result in earthquakes, it can be other calamities like big fire, tsunami or some other extra ordinary tragic events. If combinations like mathibrama yoga are associated, it can result in to man-made calamities like terrorist attacks, war, assassination bid to world leaders etc.

On April 5th NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded solar flare that hurled material over the Sun’s eastern limb. On April Solar Dynamic Observatory image showed 3 of the sun spots( AR 1713,AR 1718 and AR 1719) that have beta-gamma magnetic field harbouring energy for M-Class Solar Flare. The magnetic field of Sun spot AR 1719 erupted on April 11th.A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) swept past the earth on April 13th.
