Ayurvedic astrology and the nakshatra dashas

Dear all,

It took me time to understand that when people ask for prediction, they are not really interested in knowing their future. In fact, they ask for prediction because they want to be sure that good things (success, romance, marriage, children, wealth, etc) will happen to them. But usually people are not aware of how much they create their own destiny, according to the law of karma in the mental realm. It may sound odd, but I believe this is the role of the astrologer to remind them that our destiny is all in our hands. Or rather it is all in our thoughts.

Ayurveda states that everything that we experience will end up creating our body, whether it is food, air, or mental processes. If a single thing in our life leaves us unsatisfied, and if we focus on this single thing at the expense of everything else, then we unconsciously create the conditions of our misfortune.

We have thousands of thoughts everyday, and 95% of the thoughts we have today are exactly the same as the ones we had yesterday, and the day before yesterday, etc. What will happen if our thoughts are all directed towards the things that go wrong in our life instead of the things that are source of satisfaction ? What will happen if we perpetually create negativity in our mind ? Nothing good, obviously.

We tend to believe that the events of our life create the conditions of our mind. But ayurvedic astrology teaches us that it is the exact reverse. Our thoughts drive our acts, our acts draw our character, and our character creates our destiny. Therefore we can say that our thoughts create our destiny.

In this perspective, the nakshatra dasha systems (e.g. the vimshottari dashas) consitute a model to understand the ever changing content of our mind (manas, or the moon). Dashas are nothing else than thought patterns.The content of our mind is slowly changing in the course of life and this change is shown by the succession of the astrological periods. Dashas need to be interpreted as well from the psychological perspective.
