Hello JupiterLight,

Black Star or Black Star Diopside is a Calcium Magnesium Silicate.Diopside derives from the Greek word 'di' meaning two, and 'opsis', meaning vision. Another name that has appeared over the years for Black Star Diopside is the Black Star of India.

Black Star Diopsides are occasionally confused with Black Star Sapphires. However, the sure-fire way to
differentiate the two stones is by viewing the rays of the star. A Black Star Diopside will exhibit four rays
whereas the Black Star Sapphire will exhibit six (occasionally twelve), rays. This difference is caused by the physical make-up of each of the stones and the presence of a different number of crystal faces for the light to refract off of.

Traditionally Black Star Diopside is believed to help heal trauma, partly by bringing cleansing to tears. Because of this, it has sometimes been referenced to as the crying stone. It can help alleviate aggression and stubbornness and is said to be related to love, commitment, and the inner heart. It is also said to bring creativity to the wearer.

Physically Black Star Diopside is believed to heal the heart, lungs, and the circulatory system. It is also believed to aid with psychological disorders and weaknesses.

keep smiling :)

The second one looks like a 'black' opal, which in fact is not black but between blue and green, but would need a better picture to be sure.
The first one could be anything from a Garnet, an Onyx, a Smoked quartz or even an Amethyst. I don't think it is a black star, as can't see a star on the stone. A cabochon cut of any of these stones can look black but have a look at light through it. Can you see light or is it opaque? If you do see light, what color do you see?
