Is Saturn materialistic or spiritual?

Hello experts,


If you want a context, I have Saturn debilitated in 5th house. And I'm running under Saturn-Saturn. Life has been a lot of suffering (divorce, loss of finances, relocation, gripped in negativity etc). I'm spiritually inclined (I'm not sure if it is b/c of him, I have been so for a very longtime, 14+years ), but I just don't feel like I'm making progress in spiritual life (assessing from the point of view of ease, peace, equanimity, contentment, ). Seems like my efforts, and the direction are skewed big time. [DOB March 5th, 1971, 2:15AM, Madras, INDIA]

Shanidev when at his worst hits you so hard and so many times and rubs you so much on the ground time and again....that spirituality is the only thing you can resort to....deflated knocked out surrendering at the feet of god.

and the moment you stop fighting / resisitng .......fall yourself at the feet of lords......life starts taking an up-ward turn.

Indeed throuhg pain, suffering and near hopelessness shanidev turns you towards spiritualism.

debilitated in the 5th house means shani rules your 2nd and 3rd houses also......means neagtive result sin matters of wealth ( whihc could be money or family ) and social realtionship with the community also

Even my Saturn is debilitated but also vakri and in the tenth house......My Saturn Dasa started in a very great way....so much so that I thought that it will take me to great heights...In fact My Saturn-Saturn was good.....But Mercury/venus/Ketu Bhuktis were very bad and I am at present in the rock bottom.....Unlike Jason my saturn started well and then in three years started giving problems.....Do you think these problems are likely to continue???? But I have become very spriritual now....

You're soon to be in SA/SU which is regarded as difficult in theory but it is so because it often is a time marked with change, especially in the work place. Sun is friendly to your lagna and Su rules the 2nd of possessions and is conjunct the 9th lord of luck in the 2nd - a good Dhana Yoga. Su/Ju are in 5th from Dasha Lagna. I think there should be a good outcome to this SA/SU for you.

Thanks for your write up....In my previous two dasas also(Rahu and Guru), I had lot of hardships in Venus and Ketu bhuktis but I bounced back in Sun bhukti....In fact my Sun/Moon and Mars bhuktis have been great in my previous dasas.....So I expect these bhuktis to be good in this dasa too...Ofcoarse it is only wishful thinking...I also felt since Sun is placed in fifth from Saturn it will be especially very good.....But I was only worried because Sun and Saturn are sworn enemies....So I was not very sure.....

Thanks for your response. I'm spiritual but not religious. Don't understand what lord means. But i do understand what surrender means. Yes - I'm a buddhist. I also wonder why I come to Vedic astrology? Seems so far everything played out according to the script ! - that makes me wonder.

I'll be going over your write-up again and again, reflect. reference from time to time.

This is definitely a VERY tough Saturn to endure, manage.

Take a look at Mars in asc - protected by two benefic planets, guru,venus. (I think it's called Subhargala)

I do have a lot of strength, energy, aggressive nature, yes, impatience too.
Whatever i want, i go after it w/ full force. (I had high academic excellence etc.
Even in the worst american economy, I could end up getting job rather quickly.... )

But in my personal life is shattered, i struggle a lot. i'm gripped by negativity(hard to break), loneliness, poor social skills, feeling of emptiness, hopelessness, darkness, list goes on-and-on.
Instead of debilitation to be cancelled by mars position, it's working the other way round. Mars is rendered USELESS by Saturn. In both Rasi and Navamsa, Saturn is in Mars house. Shouldn't Mars get an upper hand? Is not Mars well placed both in Rasi and Navamsa (Moolathrikona)?

I see my life is a constant battle between Mars and Saturn. Mars is willing to put in the effort. Saturn says "What's the point?" sure enough, I believe it, so i just give up. remain in darkness. what a waste of life?

I have never found any benefits from Vipareeta Rajayoga
Any time this moon sub period (dasha) came on, I suffered loss. I never got any benefit out of this.

I'm wondering if that yoga is reliable?

It is def a VRY but natrual malefics like Mars,Sun and Saturn do well if invloved in VRY ..Natrual benefics like Moon and jupiter may lack the fighting spirit to come out of adverse situations unlike the malefic planets

i'm someone who's fascinated by astrology and thus keep posting threads here and there. I have a saturn+rahu combination in my fourth house and saturn is in parivartan yog with sun, placed in the 9th house along with mercury and mars. i also have a v.r.y with my lagnesh, lord of the 6th being placed in the 8th house..all tell me that the saturn+rahu periods would be tough on me....do you feel so?

About spirituality..I am more into it..infact my such atiitude is also one of the reason for the breakup. she has

I recently started my Saturn Antar Dasha in Rahu MD..I left my job in July as i was earning little there and also i got selected with an MNC..however the joining dates have been postponed which is making me a lil worried

Considering Rahu MD and Saturn AD dont go well with each other in general how do u consider this phase of 3 years will go for me.

Can you post your birth details? Results of a dasha is equally determined by the Antardasha (bukthi) lord too. In fact it has a huge role in modifying the general indications of the Dasha Lord.

Dear VSSS,

You had mentioned that you are Simha Lagna but I use JHora to cast your chart and it points to Kanya Lagna. I am relatively new and learning slowly. If the settings are wrong then some of the more learned members can correct me.

Per that you are currently at the end of Sa/Surya and will be transitioning to Sa/Mo on 24 August which you will be running for the next 2 years 3 months. Sa did send you abroad by association with Ra and by virtue of being in the 12th house and its aspect of the 9th house.

Though retrograde, an exalted Ju in Pushyami (Poosam, ruled by Sa) aspecting the 5th house ruled by Sa and by being a putrakaraka blessed you with a child in Sa/Sa/Ju (Was you child born between Apr 26 to Sep 24 in 2003?).

Now Me being your Lagnathipathi and 10 house lord, being in his own Nakshatra was going to help you. He also has the aspect of Ju whose aspect is benefic. Though he is place in the house of his natural enemy, the temporal relationship is that of a neutral and so he is not that significantly blemished by position and so Sa dasha (lord of service by virtue of 6th house and a friend to Me and being the 10th Lord in D10 in his own house) and Me Bukthi (by being well positioned in both Rasi and D10) overall gave a good career jump. Sa's placement in Navamsa is great boost.

During the Sa/Suk period, the second lord being in his own house with the 11th Lord would have given you income but Suk is aspected by Sa the 6th Lord from 12th House giving you significant expenses. The Sa to Mo aspect reduced your ability to put a control on your expenses. I suspect that you were able to earn well even till now but it is the expenses part that was difficult to control.

During Sy antardasha, the situation in terms of financial spending (even paying back debts is spending) might not have improved solely because of Su being 12th lord with 8th Lord Ma and under the nakshatra of Ke situated in the 6th house. While all this happened, your income should still be good and job reasonably secure as Surya is in a friend's house.

My thoughts around Ch antardasha are that it should be similar to Sukra's period. You should have no issues w.r.t. job or income but Ch is in Ra's nakshatra (and Ra is in 12th house) with Sa's aspect. You will have to control your spending.

Again, I am new and hence suspect to making mistakes but please do seek opinion of more senior and learned members.
