Determining the characteristics of spouse

I've started this topic to consolidate the various views i've seen on other topics regarding the characteristics of a spouse based on ones own chart. It would be nice if we could have a discussion and elaborate on the reasons why some things are so.

One common thing I've seen in many topics is that if Ra is associated through conjunction or aspect of 7th house or lord, it means that the spouse will be from a different background/caste/culture etc.

But how do you give the weightage for such a conclusion? If the above is true in the rasi but not in the navamsa, then what does it mean.. what about vice versa? What if both rasi and navamsa show similar traits?

I would be grateful if someone could pitch in..
