A significant amount of astrology developed from Muslims and influenced India. You should also look into the historical validity of considering astrology a haram. It may not be traditional, and therefore may itself be a haram.
Their reasoning is the word of God, Who told Muhammad (Peace be upon him) all the rules and haram's and everything which he wrote the book with no idea of how to write or read at all as said in historical scriptures. Never heard that Muslims wrote any type of Astrology but that's interesting i had no idea. This is what it said's in Modern Scriptures too, or perhaps not scripture's but other informative book's.
Yes, the north indian style of drawing the chart, for example, comes from the Yavanas. The Yavanas are the Muslims. Many more recent astrological classics, for example the Hora Sara, make note of trying to separate Vedic astrology from the ideas of the Yavanas - apparently it had become difficult to do as of several centuries ago.
What you must do is inquire from your imam or whomever guides you in Islam. You must ask, "I wish to understand why we say that astrology is a haram. Without such understanding it will be more difficult for me to cast it off. Kindly teach me. Kindly show me where it is written that astrology is haram, and kindly explain to me the reasoning behind it."
Now, if the person refuses, you should seek a better guide. If you find no such guide, then you should reconsider becoming a member of a religion that cannot offer you guidence. If you do get a good answer than you should deliberate it with your soul and allow Allah (Praise) guide your decision on the matter. Ifyou like you can post the reasoning you discover here and I can attempt to help you deliberate on it.
"Tajik" form of astrology- , it is a gift from the arabs/whatever the people living in that era, were called - .
Muslim rulers had their own astrologers. An interesting story about Humayun- When Akbar was born- his horoscope was prepared. Whenever, Humayun was in doldrums, he would take it out, gaze at it and went back to being his happy self.
In fact- yavans were not muslims, but greeks. India's interaction with western astrologers started much earlier than the emergence of muslim religion.
Be rest assured, study of any subject is not going to break any rules of any religion.
I think you should first consider this very deeply: Why are you interested in Astrology in the first place? Has it revealed to you any truth? If yes, then how could it be against God's will to learn any helpful subject?
i dont know hahah i didn't think it was a a haram untill my sister open'd the first book she picked up without even knowing it said anything about it there, And there it said! i was like damn. And yes Dhanvanta it has revealed alot of truth's, maybe rules changed but i dont know, il need to ask il come back to this later.

Thanks Hina - I had forgotten that. In later days somehow Yavana became a word for Muslims - at least in Bengal.
