Hi,
1) Those who use things like google-calendar, [No Personal Contact Details on Public Forum]-calendar, etc; is there any calendar that shows Rahukal, Yamaghanta, Vishaghati ?
2) Sometimes Vishaghati and Gulika (Kuligai) seem to have common time-spans. Does that mean the periods are "mild" asupicious / "mild" inasuspicious?

Dear Sarjil200,

It is an interesting question. However it is difficult for online calenders to calculate these things. A good Astrology software can easily do it.

When you divide the day time (usually 6 am to 6 pm in India) into 8 equal parts, each part of 90 minutes would be ruled by a planet. The first 90 minutes for each day would be ruled by the planet governing the day.
Same goes for the night.

This 90 minute span when ruled by Saturn is called Gulika. Maandi also means sluggish or slow referring to Saturn.

Rahu has no ruler and hence Rahu kalam is not assigned a first muhurta. On a monday it starts from 7:30-9:00 and on a sunday ends at 6pm.

Even though Rahu kalam, Yamagandam and Kuligai comes at fixed times, the division of the day into 8 equal parts depends on the sunrise and sunset timings. That is problem for automatic calculation.

As far as I know, Gulika is auspicious for inauspicious things but I am not sure about that.

best regards,

Dear Kandhan ji,

Yes, this is a Hora system. But there are also a few variations of the Kala Hora system considering a span of 1 hour instead of 1.5 hours. There are quite a number of divisions of time.
The smaller units of time has been quite well documented by olden seers, probably in their attempt to understand the nature of time.

Regarding Gulika, it is generally considered inauspicious, but it is considered apt for certain non-satvik things.
But its all not that bad. Some other good things that could be done during Gulikodayam are:
1)Collecting cereals, gram etc, Massaging with oils & bathing, Opening of eyelids / using kasturi ,Dressing, Getting freed from debts , Lighting of sacrificial fires, Use of perfumes etc..

Hi,
There are certain times of day when people should/shouldn’t “start” auspicious works I found too many names. Which of these are most important?
(A wiser question would be “Arrange these in descending order of danger”)

As far as I know, Rahukal and Yamaghanta are 2 of the most dangerous times, but I do not know much about others.
Is there any way to become immune from all the inauspicious times?
