I know that when you are going to wear a gem, there are times that it's good to start wearing it (and times that are not).
What about when you are just trying a gem, to see if you want to buy it (like when you tape it to your body to see what it feels like having it on)? Do you need to test it at a certain time, or is it ok to try a gem anytime, but to start wearing it in jewelry at a specific time?

yeah, but I didn't check to see if it was a good time to test a pearl (I've been trying some out these past 4 days, starting on Wednesday)- does that mean that they are tainted and will not have the best effects, or can I try again at the correct time?

thanks! I have chosen one and once I get it set into a jewelry, I'll be sure to start wearing it at the correct time.

When I had the pearls taped to me, many little things went much better than usual, and potential problems were unexpectedly diverted at the last moment. But towards the end of wearing them, I got some anxiety, and since I've taken them off, have been more emotionally sensitive than usual (but that could be due to other factors besides the pearls, I'm not sure)... I'll let you know how it goes once I get it as jewelry.

An astrologer told me to get the pearl- he recommended that I wear it at all times. I have some knowledge of astrology, but it's very basic. I have just recently begun to study it.

My Moon is combust and opposite Saturn within 1 degree- I believe this is why my astrologer (strongly) recommended a pearl.
He said there were other gems that I could wear too- like a diamond or stone for Venus (it's "hurt" in the 8th house), an emerald for Mercury (I'm not sure if it was because Mercury is my lagna ruler or if because it's the strongest planet in my chart), or a yellow sapphire for Jupiter only during my Jupiter dasa- but that wearing the pearl is most important.
I agree with him that my moon is very afflicted. I've been in a Rahu dasa for like 18 years, but a couple years ago during the Moon bhuki it became possibly the worst time of my life thus far. I feel like I'm still recovering from that time, though some bad things have happened during this current Mars bhukti- I don't know if my Mars is afflicted too, or if that's just because Mars is a malefic in general.
edit: now that I think of it, all of the negative things that have happened during this Mars bhukti began or are related to what happened in my Moon bhukti- I don't know if that makes a difference for anything.

ok..thanks for your reply....please tell me what are the problems created during this period.i.e. the sectors affected due to moon.. and the problem created due to it.
you may go for pearl....but my advise is to go for emerald since it is the lagnadhipati positioned in his own house....try to analyse through this angle.
i asked another friend of mine...he also told me the same thing.
please give the analysis for the following data---

please discuss elaborately whatever you can tell
Thanks

During my Rahu-Moon period, I had mixed results in my romantic life. I got into a long-distance relationship (my first relationship ever- before for some reason I was incapable of having one). It was long distance, very complicated, and there was so much love, but I got somewhat betrayed, which causes me pain to this day.
I gained 35-40 lbs during the Moon bhukti (probably due to the stress of this time and emotional eating), and then lost it all by the end of this bhukti (so now I'm back to normal). I also got stuck in a job that I hate, and this is the earliest time I remember feeling like my energy is being drained out of me, a feeling that still happens on and off to this day (I don't know why it happens, but it makes me tired and spacey)
I can see why you and your friend recommend an emerald and I will look into it. Do you know what the price of emeralds is like over there? Here all Mercury stones are far too expensive for me.
I noticed that your Lagna, Venus, Moon, and Jupiter are all aspecting each other in Kendra houses (giving these planets Kendra bala, or angular strength). This is true for Chandra Lagna also, making these following relationships stronger.
The Lagna is opposite the Moon, and the Moon is in its own sign. Venus is squaring the Moon in the Rashi, Navamsha, and Dreshkana (In the Saptamsha, the Moon is squaring Venus). Venus is a friend of the Moon, so this relationship is positive, and the Moon is strong in the 7th house. According to the Jaimini system, the Moon is dara karaka (the spouse, your capacity for relationships & love/affection). Because your Moon is strong, you will have a good, loving marriage & spouse. You will enter a Mercury-Moon period at the end of July this year, and that Moon bhukti should bring good effects (if you are not married now, maybe you will get married during that time).
The Moon is a best friend of Jupiter, and squares it in the Rashi (giving Gaja Kesari Yoga). It is opposite Jupiter in the Shashitamsha, and in the Dreshkana and Dashamsha, Jupiter squares the Moon. Jupiter is Retrograde in the 10th, and Venus (a worst enemy) is oppositing it, and in the Jaimini system, Jupiter is matri karaka. This could cause some difficulties in your career and regarding your mother, but due to the influence of the Moon, you will see positive results as well (these might balance out the negatives).
Jupiter squares your Lagna in the Rashi only, which would have a mixed effect on you- some positives, some negatives, due to the state of Jupiter, but these effects are relatively weak compared to the other relationships in your chart.
Your Lagna squares Venus in the Rashi and Dashamsha. It is opposite Venus in the Saptamsha and Akshavedamsha. Jupiter (an enemy) is oppositing Venus in the 4th, which could weaken it, and cause difficulties surrounding your mother and home life.
There are some minor trines - Lagna trine Sun & Mercury, Sun & Mercury trine Mars & Saturn, and Mars & Saturn trine the Lagna. The Sun & Mercury are neutrals and enemies of Mars & Saturn (who are enemies themselves), so this aspect is not the best for them, and there could be difficulties with religion and spirituality, but your Saturn is very strong (atmakaraka and your Lagna ruler), so you could have strong values, ideals, and a strong Father.
Mercury is close to the sun (I'm not sure if it's combust or not, but if it is combust, this could negatively influence your ability to express yourself).
For a gemstone, I think Blue Sapphire might be good because Saturn is your Lagna ruler and is strong in the Jaimini system, but does have some negative influences from other planets; However, I'm really not sure, because they say to be very careful with Saturn stones, so do not think to get one until you get an expert's opinion.

As for your chart.. I first want to emphasize that I am very much a beginner at Jyotish, so please get another opinion as well. I will tell you what I see, so please let me know if anything is true and what is not, and if it's incorrect please tell me why.

first of all the place i am staying at,no body keeps these gemstones...and to talk of pearl or emerald is something which is a dream for them.i was once looking for a emerald...so this experience.
my mother is suffering from chronic illness..rightly as you said.
i have completed my engineering in 2008 and am looking for a job unsucessfully for the last 2 years.
could you please tell me about my financial capabilities?whether i will get a job or not?
also please tell what my positive and negative qualities are ...which you find from my horoscope.
i was planning for an emerald and a diamond or any of there substitute.is this correct?wearing saturn's gemstone is too risky as you rightly pointed out.
ps-you are having a good grasp on the subject and mixing jaimini and parashari system will also help you more in accurate predictions.

I'm not sure about an Emerald because Mercury is an enemy of the Sun and they're in the same house. Same with a Diamond- Venus is opposite Jupiter, and is a bitter enemy. You would want to consult an expert to see if an Emerald could hurt your Sun (by strengthening Mercury), or if a Diamond could hurt your Jupiter (your career) even more, or if they would be ok to wear.
First of all, I would think about strengthening Jupiter, because you are concerned with your career- your Jupiter is in the 10th (the house of career) and is retrograde and aspected by one of its worst enemies (Venus), so it looks like that could be what's causing difficulty with your career- but again, because Jupiter is an enemy opposite Venus, you'd need to make sure a Yellow Sapphire would not hurt your Venus if you were to wear it, and if the stone is too dangerous, maybe mantras or yajnas would be safer.
In your Hora (2nd divisional wealth chart) your Jupiter is a lunar planet- I'm not sure exactly how to interpret that, but because your Jupiter has such a good relationship with your Moon, I think that could be good for it.
In the Iyer Hora Iyer (another wealth chart), you have Jupiter & Venus conjunct and opposite the Ascendant & Moon- again, the two enemies Venus and Jupiter are together, but an aspect with Jupiter's best friend, Moon, giving mixed results- and you have Mercury in the 10th house. Because Mercury is neutral with the Sun in the Rashi, depending on how much combustion effects him, this effect could be neutral to negative for your career.
In the Hora III, Jupiter is opposite Venus, which is in the 10th- the enemies again, this time Venus is again opposite Jupiter and now in his house (of career)- but Mars, a best friend of Jupiter, is 8 houses away (a major aspect for Mars), giving Jupiter energy & strength.
In the Iyer Dashamsha Iyer (Great Successes) Mars is aspecting the 10th house (4 away, another major aspect for Mars, again giving energy to your career- Mars wants it to be a success).
To succeed in your career and to make money from it, you need to solve this negative relationship between Jupiter & Venus that looks like it is the main thing stopping you at this time. Jupiter (your career) seems to have some potential due to the positive effects of the Moon and the energy given to it by Mars, but the conflict with Venus is overpowering this. There is a delicate balance that you need to find here- the Moon which helps Jupiter is neutral to Venus, which is not bad, but Mars & Venus are enemies, so as it gives energy to Jupiter, it is also acting negatively upon Venus (Venus is aspected 8 houses away in the Rashi).
From what I can see, Jupiter is in the most need of strengthening, but Venus also needs some help too. If in any way you could strengthen and bring out the positive qualities of both at the same time (with maybe a little more emphasis on Jupiter), that would be best. As you strengthen one, you wouldn't want the other to be left behind and be hurt, since they are both acting upon and influencing each other in no only the Rashi, but in many divisional charts as well.
On July 30th 2011 and December 28th 2012 you begin Mercury-Moon & Mercury-Mars periods respectively. Because the Moon & Mars have positive relationships with Jupiter, it is during these times that your career situation could improve on its own.

thanks for your reply and sorry for being late in my reply.you are really going deep into this.
i am very indecisive and fickle in nature.for eg if i am doing something and some one else says that another thing is good or some thing like that...i tend to leave everything in the middle and jump to the new thing without thinking anything.....in the end causing me pain and loss.this also prevents me from sticking to anything.
can you please explain this why this occurs?and what is the remedy for this.

hey rks123, sorry for the late reply. The first thing I thought of when you mentioned your indecisive, fickle nature is Mercury. This impression is not from what I've learned in Jyotish (because I still have not yet studied it in depth). I have seen these qualities attributed to Gemini (a Mercury sign) in Western Astrology, but (correct me if I'm wrong) from what I've read, it seems like the qualities of the planets and signs are similar in both astrologies...so that is why I look at Mercury to find the cause of this issue ( i believe that Rahu in the 6th in Gemini is a good placement).
I don't know if there is anything else that could be causing this issue, so if someone else sees something, please let us know.
There are no major aspects to your Mercury, but there are some minor ones from some of Mercury's enemies- it's 8 signs away (a 3/4 strength aspect) from Jupiter (the planet in your chart which I also feel is in need of the most strengthening) and 9 houses away (a 1/2 strength aspect) from Mars & Saturn (who are not only enemies, but malefics as well).
Mercury is in the same sign/house as the Sun (a neutral), but is not close enough to be combust, so I don't think this is the problem. The 5th house is a good place for Mercury, and indicates things like intelligence and virtue, but those minor negative aspects from Jupiter, Mars, & Saturn are afflicting it to some degree, which is maybe what's causing your indecisiveness and fickleness. Has this jumping to new things effected your career? I ask because Jupiter has the strongest of the minor aspects.
If Mercury is indeed the cause, then an Emerald would be the remedy stone, but like I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm not sure how that would effect your sun, so you should be careful with that and consult an expert (Mercury is an enemy of your Sun, and is in the same house/sign). If an emerald is too dangerous due to this, then maybe chanting or doing other spiritual things for the planets aspecting Mercury (Jupiter, Mars, & Saturn) and/or for Mercury itself, could help alleviate some of their negative effects.
I don't know if there is anything else that could be causing this issue, so if someone else sees something, please let us know.

thanks for your reply....better late than never.
coming to planets i also agree that planets tend to have similiar roles irrespective of the place or following.....
but i couldn't understand why you are saying that ?for sun mercury is neutral but for mercury....sun is a friend while sat, mars are neutral.for sat....mer is friend.only for mars mer is enemy.for jup mer is enemy and for mer....jup is neutral.
so except for mars and jup, mercury is not having any adverse relations with any one.
i can't control my tongue...if i am not speaking then it is good but if i speak then i tend to overspeak.also i have a career gap for 3 years...i.e. from 2001 to 2004.also my marks don't speak of my capabilities.i also tend to day dream a lot...building castles in air...
....
again i am confused...whether this is due to mercury or due to saturn afflicted by mars?...(afflicted saturn causes slowness,dullness...i think i read somewhere...is this true?)
again what is the effect of rahu in gemini...in 6th house and jup in 10th in libra and venus in 4th house in aries?is the combination of mars/saturn in 9th house bad?

I looked at the compound relationships (padchadha maitri chakra, which is the combination of natural and temporal planetary relationships) to see which of your planets were friends, enemies, etc. With natural planetary relationships, a planet does not always have the same relationship another as they do to it (for example, Mercury is naturally a neutral to the Sun, but the Sun is a friend to Mercury). I don't know why there is a difference. If anyone knows please post because I'm curious about that too.but i couldn't understand why you are saying that ?for sun mercury is neutral but for mercury....sun is a friend while sat, mars are neutral.for sat....mer is friend.only for mars mer is enemy.for jup mer is enemy and for mer....jup is neutral.
In one of James Braha's books, he talks about how great Rahu in the 6th is (long life, great vitality, excellent health, defeating enemies, rising above competitors, excellence in detail work), and how that when Rahu is exalted (in Gemini or Virgo) or direct or stationary, than all these benefits are increased. So it looks like your Rahu is in one of the best places, and may bring you many benefits. However, it is aspected by both Jupiter & Saturn, so Saturn could hold back and delay some of these benefits (I have also ready that Saturn causes slowness & dullness), and Jupiter (because it is afflicted) could make you overly optimistic and vulnerable to others, so be careful of those who could be your enemies, and don't assume that you already have all of these benefits before they actually come (since Saturn could be delaying them).
You were in a Saturn-Jupiter dasa-bhukti from 2001-2004. I talked about Jupiter in earlier posts , about how it is afflicted in the 10th house of career (opposite its enemy Venus, etc.), and how I believe this is the cause of your career issues. Since Saturn is delaying, slowing, etc., this with Jupiter in that dasa-bhukti period looks like the cause of your career gap.
I'm not sure what the cause of your over-speaking is...it could be due to the minor aspect from Mars, because Mars seems to have that type of nature more than Saturn would.
The 9th house is not the best place for Mars or Saturn. Both of them indicate issues & suffering due to the father, and a lack of religiousness (unless aspected properly- are you religious? if so, I will look for the aspects- that could change this a lot). There could also be issues or trouble with brothers & sisters from this placement.
I just had a Jyotish reading the other day and she gave me some Saturn, Jupiter, & Venus remedies- let me know if you want me to post them.
yeah..please send me the remedies.
yes i am overly optimistic....thanks to jup.
also i am deeply religious....not like some hindu fanatics....but i believe in all the customs,god,dharma,reincarnation....etc...but in some things i don't beleive like caste system, feeding brahmins who themselves don't practice anything..only come for getting free food....etc..

Here are the remedies she gave me. I listed them all by planet, although there are a few that I'm not sure are under the right one (like the gods), but that's where they were in my notes, so I put them there
Venus
-every Friday, bathe in yogurt
-bow your head in places of worship (to let go of the ego)
-donate rice & carrots (800 mg of each) to a temple
-offer a copper coin into a drain (for 10 days in a row)
-feed birds (preferably 7 types of grain)
-fill a tiny clay pot with honey and bury it in the ground
-offer white rice & a strand of saffron into a flowing river
-wear a diamond
-honor the Mother Goddess
Jupiter
-wear some gold
-keep a small piece of yellow cloth with you
-visit pilgrimages
-worship Siva
Saturn
-on a Saturday, offer a coconut, almonds, and a piece of iron into flowing water
-feed crows & birds
-to remove negativity of self: on Saturday, look at the reflection of your face in mustard oil in a steel plate, and then pour the mustard oil into the earth
Jupiter & Saturn
-bring a fig plant into the home and nurture it
I also have an afflicted Moon. Your's seems pretty strong from what I can tell, but I will put the remedies here anyways.
Moon
-keep a square piece of silver in a box in a sacred space
-honor & respect elderly people
-Sunday night, place milk & water by bedside; Monday morning pour it into your fig tree or in a plant outside
-wear pearls, or have a pearl japamala
-do mantras (at least 108 per day for 43 days)
-keep flowers in bedroom (especially red roses)
-bathe with yogurt
-worship Durga
And she gave me some for Ketu also. Your Ketu has a major aspect from Mars so these may be helpful for you.
Ketu
-keep Saffron in the home in a sacred space (1 or 2 strands in 1 tablespoon of water). After bathing, using the ring finger of your right hand, dab some of that water on your navel & heart. Before sleep, put it on your navel, heart, and forehead.
-wear a gold ring
-worship Ganesh
I will look more at your Mars & Saturn in the 9th, and then post again.
Venus
-every Friday, bathe in yogurt
-bow your head in places of worship (to let go of the ego)

I forgot to mention that the coconut offering and mustard oil ones for Saturn should be done on a Saturday. I'll update that.
