Dear astrologers:

How to distinguish between karmic debts and new karmas?

See, suppose u are doing some charity work, is it karmic debt or a new karma?
Some people harm you and you give them back in the same coin.
Someone who cheats you, is it that they are paying their karmic debts and we are experiencing our karmic debts or is it that they have created a new karma and we have experienced a karma for which we shall pay debt in future births?
Will not all pariharas done have some impact on karmic debts?

I feel new good karmas created by us(maya) may actually be the ones created for paying karmic debts since atleast most people have not reached the stage of soul realization. So when we suffer and feel the suffering intensity should go down, then it is sins carried over from previous janmas, is it not? So the conscious pariharas done(using free will) may help them reduce the sins to some extent.

I do feel pariharas done with faith and sincerity will have its own positive effect. For eg: If a person is murdered and among the culprits involved, one turns approver, his punishment is minimum since he has realized his mistakes. So when this happens in the same janma, why not for what sins we have committed in past janmas? Atleast from the happenings of events in our life, we can roughly visualize the type of sins we would have committed and then use it to do karmas now to nullify or reduce the effects like
Serving the gurus when you feel you have insulted gurus in the past.
Helping others get married when you have problems in your marriage.
Help other people who are isolated when you yourself feel isolated.
Help others in exams when you had problems during exams and so on.

Also, suppose we receive some help from some people, say help in studies, or guidance in life, monetary and so on, is it that we are receiving new karmas or we are being paid back for our past karmas?

Immaterial of whether it is new or old karma, I think it would be prudent to do all these helps to others since you have received those, assuming that these are new ones.
I would like to have experts give their opinions.

Dear Dev,
Karmik Debts will hang around your neck like a noose with little freedom to get away.
Look at 2 examples:
1) Karmik Debt=One may be born to a father who barely makes the ends meet. Hence lack of monetary means makes the child feeling helpless, most deprived child in the school.

Good New Karma= Live through that phase of discontent, monetary deprivation, focussing on studies, not blaming your father, not feeling too embarrased about your poverty ( all of that is easier said than done)

2) Karmik Debt=One may bear a child who is physically or mentally handicapped.......

Good New Karma= Take care of the special need child whoheartedly , not ignore him even if one gets addtional healthy children. Give the handicapped child unconditional, care, attention & love

In fact every karmik, debt that hangs around your neck as an unavoidable situation...also brings opportunities to earn new Karmik credits using free-will.

Infact here is the equation I use:

a)This life's unavoidable destiny= past lives Karma
b)this life's Karma(good or bad)= in your own hand using free-will
c)Next life's destiny= Karmic debts and credits earned in this life.

hence free-will...in this life.....writes the destiny for next lives.

regards

Hi Shilpa:

Wonderful and great explanation. You put them in simple words. Yes, these are to be followed- just bear the karmic debts earned from previous janmas without trying to create new ones and try to use free will to do good karmas to bring down the negative balance.

Thanks,

Dev
