I would like to know the correct D1 Lagna and degree of my friend as it falls right in the cusp of Gemini/Cancer (9th pada of Mithuna or 1st pada of Karka). I'm sharing few details of her and would be grateful if you could help.
DOB : 26th July 1990
POB : Srirangam, India
TOB: Between 5:23 AM to 5:28 AM
Some events in her life:
1) She has a sister elder to her (Born 24th Apr 1988)
2) Her father died at an early age (Before she even turned 10 i believe)
3) Her mother herself had a late marriage and she was born only when her mother was in her mid to late 30s
4) She got married on 14th Jun 2017 and it was a love marriage with boy from same brahmin caste but different sub caste.
5) Her elder sister is yet to be married.
6) She passed Chartered Accountancy in very first attempt in May 2011 (Results came out in July few days before she even turned 21)
7) Has been working in a foreign MNC in the taxation dept since Dec 2013 in Chennai.

Any events related to her health or maternal uncles/aunts health and financial issues or fathers health issues at her 12th year of age ?confirm with her.[ fathers death not before at her 10th or on 10th not tallying]..the following things are in track.. with cancer lagna but not with gemini.

I also felt that it is Cancer Lagna only but still had doubt as she reckoned that her time of birth is 5:23 AM only. You're right about her dad as well. It happened around when she was 12-13 years only. I shall try to ask more details about her other issues if i am able to.

Incidentally in both the girls horoscope's Mars seems to be strong and aspects Lagna if she happens to be Cancer. Please let me know whether it would be possible to tell the exact time and Lagna degree in Cancer Ascendant based on the available information? Thanks a lot.

If Mars aspects ascendant, natives generally prefers war, but Jupiter would keep allow only the things which are useful.
If Jupiter is in Ascendant, natives judge a lot. Is that the case with her?
If Sun is in Ascendant, natives will be conformists, is that the case with her?

I would say with Jupiter in ascendant she does tend to judge quite a bit. She has her views on quite a number of areas.
I wouldn't say she is much of a conformists but tends to go with the flow. She does believe that certain things have to happen during a particular time and doesn't have many radical views.
I'm generally apprehensive about shifting the time forward for those who actually know their time of birth. In almost 90% of the cases who know their time of birth, it generally tends to be a few minutes before but seldom after. She did tell me that her time of birth is 5:23 AM and as per Lahiri Ayanamsa it happens to be Gemini only unless you move it forward by 5 minutes which I felt is a lot. [Though with another ayanamsa such as Raman the time of 5:23 am places it in Cancer only]. But from her events it seems to suggest more of a Cancer Lagna to me and hence I wanted to confirm and from the looks of it seems like she is a Cancer Lagna person only.
Incidentally both she and her sister though born 2 years apart seem to have some similarities in their respective charts:
Her sister : Ascendant in early degree of Aries Lagna and Sun/Jupiter/Mercury in Lagna and an exalted Lagna Lord Mars in 10th house Capricorn aspects Lagna
Herself : Ascendant in early degree of Cancer Lagna and Sun/Jupiter/Ketu in Lagna and yogakaraka Mars in 10th and own house of Aries also aspects Lagna.
Both are well educated and doing well. Seeing her sister's pattern also made me feel that her Lagna should be more of Cancer as opposed to Gemini. Also her success in studies happened to be in Mars Dasa which happens to be malefic for a Gemini ascendant but extremely favorable for Cancer ascendant.

The lagna changes with just a time change to 4:25 am instead of 4:35 am. Please suggest.
Certain things related :

For the given time of 4-35 AM, Lagna is Kataka. But from the events indicated, Mithuna is more likely.

There is a crude method of checking the correctness of Lagna using the Janma Ghatis and the Sun's longitude. Even with this check, Lagna comes as Mithuna only.
