Namaste dear astrologers,
Firstly I'm thankful to all the astrologers here for taking their time out to answer all queries... This forum has been a great source of learning for so many aspiring learners like myself....
I've seen many astrologers saying that sun is a separative planet or a maraka... so does it mean that whenever sun is the 7th lord or sun is placed in 7th house or with 7th lord, the native will be separated from spouse? Or does it differ from case to case?
Also is sun a benefic or a malefic?
Sun - A Separative planet?

It is said that the Sun & the Moon are exempt from Maraka Dosham, However in practice it is not so .Any planet having lordship of evil houses becomes malefic or at least a functional malefic (If it is a benefic).
Sun is not categorically beneficial in the 7th house, even if occupying leo or Aries, the result is that the spouse is conceited and dominating and hence it may separating due to ego issues (I have personally seen this). This is true for both D1 & D9 charts.
As for Sun being the 7th lord (for Kumbha Lagnam), its placement in the chart matters. Here the Lagna lord and the 7th lord are mutually inimical.
Furthermore, the positions of Venus and Jupiter matter in the charts of men and women respectively. While Sun does not harm Jupiter (unless Combust in conjunction), Sun badly afflicts Venus in men’s chart by conjunction/aspect or even if Ve occupies Leo irrespective of house. This is a striking occurrence especially in the charts of many bachelors (Including Mine) or divorcees.
Lastly, Sun is considered a Malefic as per Vedic astrology. This does seem odd as the Sun as a light giver & life sustainer should be a benefic. The truth is no planet is purely benefic or Malevolent in absolute terms, placement matters.
Hope this helps.

Dear astrovedic,
Thank u so much for your elaborate response...Sun being considered as a malefic was quite puzzling for me... I always thought that sun was a benefic as it is the life giver and natural atmakaraka... as u said, placement matters a lot... Sun I believe is like fire.... fire can be used for both good and bad... same way, Sun can be good as well as bad depending on various factors..
I also remember reading somewhere that sun placed in the 7th is usually problematic... For kumbha lagna, it depends on where sun is placed... It would be interesting if someone could shed more light on this... esp. natives having sun placed in 7th or with 7th lord..

I am just a beginner in astrology and am still only learning.
But from whatever I have read in this forum, sun and venus conjunction is not always considered bad for marriage.
also it will matter on which planet holds a lower degree and how close are they in conjunction?
Also what if sun is debilitated and conjunct with venus...will it be just as bad?
