1) Whether the individual is physically & mentally healthy or not, shouldn't have any serious psycological or health issues.
2) General nature & characteristics :: In short, is the individual good-natured, helpful, honest or not?

1. Why didn t proposals materialise all these years ? Who is choosy ?
Ans :: Problem is that he stays in USA, so matchmaking can take place only when he is on vacation. So he hardly have a window of say 2-3 weeks to look for prospective brides. Also with age, it's sort of a pyramid with options tapering off with each passing year.
2. Is he a type of loner ; does he have many friends ?
Ans :: He has pretty good network of "acquaintances"(social friends, colleagues, school & college-mates), but he doesn't have too many good "friends".
3. Is he a smoker ? Yes
4. Has he had any encounters with love on his own ? No
5. Is he successful in most other areas of his life ? Yes, doing well professionally.

This post is regd my brother who will turn 39 next June!!!
Though he is doing well professionally, he has almost given up on marriage. Though my parents are still trying to look for possible matches, he has said that he will not look for any further matches. With great difficulty, my parents have managed to find 3 prospective brides. There are issues in your brother chart which is delaying marriage. Malefic Mercury occupies house of marriage and Jupiter combust in the dusthana will bring delay in getting married.
Current sub period Rahu can bring marriage out of caste. Keep looking. Some developments are possible in 2016. Consider doing remedies for Mercury.
