Hi, I'm only a beginner and not trained in this field, so my comments are strictly visual observation of the chart, which you'd be able to interpret. Jupiter in 8H, as 2nd and 5th lord is not welcome. 9th Lord Moon is in 6H too.
"Sthan-haani karo Jeeva (JU), Sthan-vruddhi karo Shani (SA)", as per Suresh Shrimali, a prominent Indian astrologer. It means Jupiter weakens the house he's placed in but his aspects are good. Exact opposite for Saturn.
LL Mars is acting more like 6H lord than as Lagna Lord in Lagna with a weak Shadbala of 89% only. This combined with the aspects of Saturn (10th) and Rahu (7th) make the Lagna and LL uncomfortable. Presence of 3 malefics in Kendra houses is also a factor to be noted.
Medically speaking, diabetes is incurable but largely manageable after changes to dietary patterns, lifestyle, etc. Not sure about Australia, but in most places the standard Metformin regimen is recommended, assuming that its Type II adult onset and not the insulin-dependent type. Your physician must have made you aware of the long term effects of excess sugar which must be watched for. Regular exercise and frequent sugar testing is a must.
Non-allopathic remedies - acupuncture, ayurveda etc - we don't know if they produce tangible measurable results (drop in A1C, controlled release/processing of sugars) in people over 50-55 years of age. Now the medicines , the ones that are offered as combos with metformin can also have major side effects - pancreatitis is most common, liver problems, renal failure in some cases - so careful monitoring is necessary.
If you do come across alternative therapies that actually work, please post them here. Good luck.

Hi Ann -
Generally, a well-placed and strong Lagna Lord (LL) is the best indicator of robust overall health, giving the ability to spring back from illnesses. Basically a good immune system. Jupiter is the planet that governs GI organs such as liver, spleen, pancreas, gall bladder, GI tracts and stomach. So a strong Jupiter not placed in 6, 8, 12 is good for health.
I'm not a medical doctor, but I do work as a physician's assistant in a local hospital. So I get to see all kinds of people from different backgrounds. Two of the doctors are diabetes management specialists.
Diabetes Mellitus (Type II) occurs in middle age or later, due to imbalances between insulin and glucagon, both of which are secreted by our pancreas. Insulin regulates (reduces) glucose levels in the bloodstream, while glucagon increases it. Not to be confused with Glycogen, which is a stored form of glucose, mainly in the liver and muscle tissues.
The causes for this breakdown in functioning can be aging, obesity, or even pregnancy (gestational diabetes). High BP is also inter-linked, one causes the other, as is high stress. Thats why its called metabolic syndrome - a broad range of conditions related to many actors and factors.
Diabetes Insipidus (Type I) is when the pancreas cannot produce any insulin at all, or it gradually decreases to where its not enough for daily metabolism. Then one needs insulin to be given either thru injections or an insulin pump.
More than age, genetics is a stronger indicator and over-riding factor for these "diseases of affluence". Even a healthy relatively young (40s, 50s) person, if they have a family history of cancer, diabetes, cardiac issues, etc in their immed. or extended family, then they are at greater risk for contracting those diseases.
If you're already 60+ and and it hasn't shown up until now, chances are quite low for diabetes. But its a good idea to get your A1C tested by your physician - more reliable than fasting glucose. A1C indicates avg. blood glucose levels for the 3 months prior, so unlike fasting glucose, no way of cheating it!
And no, a sweet tooth or a few cookies don't matter much...if your metabolism is OK. In general, keep processed foods - flours, baked goods, processed meats, icecreams, dairy products - to minimum. Foods rich in anti-oxidants are good - dark chocolate, wine, dark leafy greens - in moderation of course. Because with age, even excess protein buildup can be undesirable and may lead to problems.
What is aging after all, but the slow oxidation of our tissues. Cells also need some help in their repair functionality in old age, another thing to note when taking supplements, nutrients, etc. Good luck, and congrats on turning 65!!

Hi Tanmish:
Genetics is a great subject, very interesting. However, I wish to point out that I have seen quite a few, or rather say, many exceptions to this.
A mother a diabetic, having 4 children, non of them being diabetic, also no family history of cancer but a lady gets it for the first time, she has absolutely no bad habits. She is God fearing, does regular prayers and is a vegetarian.
Also I saw a husband and wife both below 5 feet in height, their children are 6 feet, as far as the husband and wife are concerned, their parents are also short and also the brothers and sisters of these parents.
These children of theirs, due to fear of being short, started doing lot of excercises during their adolescence. Now they feel they are too tall and should have been bit shorter. They are now above 6 feet.
Similarly in traits and characters also, I have seen lot of discrepancies.
Highly orthodox families, the parents from both sides, but one of the children doing all unorthodox things.
Many more such instances I know.
Similarly, I know of a person who has 4 planets debilitated in the navamsa which should be very bad but he is doing quite well. He has done his PhD and is in a good position, he looks good and is quite ok in health, nature etc.

Hello, it looks like this discussion is taking its own course... OP, we are not trying to hijack your thread...!
Jelly29. the placement of Jupiter is what you'll need to check, please ask some experts on LOVA to help.
Zues, I agree it sounds over-simplified but there's more to these degenerative diseases than what we can discuss here. The law of unintended consequences does apply (over and above all the side effects), when it comes to these targeted therapies. Statins and other cholesterol blockers could have adverse effects on other parts of the body.
Most of the new treatments are not holistic, they don't look at the whole picture nor is any thought given to individual patient variations, reactions, and so forth. As far as medicines go, a rule of thumb - the longer its been around, safer it is. Penicillin, metformin, aspirin, ibuprofen ... they've been around for 50-60-70 years, and we can vouch for their safety. But caution needs to be used when taking the newer multi-purpose regimens.
You may know that the new frontier in cancer treatment is Immunotherapy - using the body's own defense mechanisms and immune system to get wayward cells to follow some law and order. Along with chemo and radiation of course.
I also agree with Dev that genetic-marker testing doesn't always get accurate results. There's the recessive, expressive and dormant features of some genes, and the generation-skipping of some others. We do need to look more closely at environmental "triggers" that often set the disease process in motion.
As far as exaltation/debilitation of planets, good/bad yogas and the non-rules (LOL) of astrology, its clear that it is an empirical body of knowledge with few absolutes. Its also a changing science of changing signs
because the universe is constantly in motion. How then can anyone be asked to predict anythign accurately?
It is what it is, and we can only make reasonable guesses from all the anecdotal evidence we collect.

Hello Jelly29,
You're approx. 31 now, so if you were diagnosed in 2005 (is this year correct?) then you were 21 at that time. Did the doctors measure your A1C at all? What was the general prognosis? Are you overweight?
If you're a woman, and are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, then additional care will be needed. Please do consult with the appropriate care-givers as itt is not that easy to manage. Dietary restrictions, regular exercise and frequent testing are required. I'm sure you are already aware of the secondary problems associated with uncontrolled glucose (eye damage, nerves, neuropathy, kidney problems) but with proper care and management one can keep the harmful consequences away.

Hi Jelly29,
I don't have access to Private messages on the LOVA site. You can post your message here or email me.
Question for Jan, R V Ramanan and others -
What alternative remedies if any do you suggest for diabetes? I've seen people try things like spoonful of cinnamon per day, brown rice/brown sugar/brown everything - basically unrefined foods, raw Methi (Fennel) seeds, and a few other things. But does it really work? Any evidence to support or contradict?
TIA!
