The dashas will activate the natal chart's indications. For instance, Ketu and dashas of the 12th lord can represent renunciation but it needs to be supported in the natal chart. Vaughn Paul

Having simple sannyasa yoga (4 planets in one house) gives various results. It is said having this combination in the 6th makes one a buddhist monk. I have found this being true. What if this combination occurs in the 4th, 7th or 8th - will the first native become a modern "Rishi", living ascetic life at home? The second native - being totally devoted to his/her spouse? And the 8th becoming either a tantric sadhaka - or perhaps become heavy-user of psychedelics and other drugs? I have one person with Vrishibha lagna who has five planets in 6th and Ma with Ke in 8th. You can guess he is nteresting personality - and having hard time on this planet.

Oh, I have one friend with similar combination. The planets are in dhanu - and he was already taking the sannyasa way of life, but the desire to get married was stronger. Having 4 planets in an Artha house (6th) gives some material inclination, and specially so if there are additional planets in 2nd and 10th. 4 planets in same house give always some tension in mundane life, and thus the person is easily inclined to spirituality. 6th is the house of service. Having clusters of planets there gives strong indications for selfless service and helping others.
Basab

i think the effect of that house get's strong. there will be a high chance of having a raja yoga as well.

Brihat Prashara Hora Shastra, Chapter 19.
2-3. The Yoga for ascetism is formed, when four, or more Planets, possessed of strength, occupy a single House. The person born will become a Tapasvi, a Kapali, he will be we6thng a red robe, be one, who keeps a Danda (staff), Yati, he will be keeper of a Chakra, or he will be a naked Sanyasin, according to the Planet, which is the strongest of the group: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, or Saturn. If a number of Planets are endowed with strength, the holy order of the one, strongest amongst them, is accepted.

4. If strong Planets, capable of leading to ascetism, be obscure by Sun’s rays (that is they be combust), the person born, in spite of having reverence for the holy order, will not become initiated in that holy order. Notes. Brihat Jatak adds in this connection, that, if the Planets referred to above be overcome in planetary war and be aspected by other Planets, the person concerned will seek admission into the holy order without success.

5. If the other Planets lose their strength (in spite of being in their exaltation Rāśis etc.), as a result of combustion with Sun, the native will enter the holy order, as signified by Sun, that is, he will become a Tapasvi.

6. If the Lord of the Rāśi, occupied by Moon (Janm Rāśi), having no aspect of other Planets on himself, aspects Saturn, the native gets initiated into the holy order of the Planet, who is stronger amongst the two.

7. If the Lord of the Rāśi, occupied by Moon, be devoid of strength and is aspected only by Saturn, the native becomes initiated into the holy order, signified by Saturn (Nirgranthas, naked ascetics).

8. If Moon be in the decanate of Saturn, or in the Navams of Saturn, or Mars and be aspected by Saturn, the native becomes an ascetic and enters the holy order, signified by Saturn.

9. There is planetary war, if Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are together (within one degree of each other), Venus is the conquerer, whether he is in North, or South, but amongst the other four only one, who is in the North, is the conquerer and that in the South is considered defeated in the planetary war.

10. If the Planet, who leads the native to ascetism, is conquered in planetary war by another Planet, or Planets at the time of birth, the person will relinquish the holy order, in which he becomes initiated.

11. Maitreya asked. O Venerable Sage! If there be many Planets, who are significators for ascetism, then, which holy order the native will get initiated into?

12. Mahārśi Parasara replied. O Brahmin! If all the Planets be possessed of strength, the native enters into the holy orders of all the Planets.

13. The native gets initiated into the holy order of the Planet, whose Dasa gets into operation at first. Then he relinquishes this holy order of this Planet at the commencement of the Dasa of the next Planet and accepts the holy order, signified by him.

14. When Jupiter, Moon and Lagna are aspected by Saturn and Jupiter occupies the 9th, the person, born in the Rajayog, will become a holy illustrious founder of a system of philosophy (holy order).

15. When Saturn occupies the 9th from Lagna and is not aspected by any Planet, the person, possessed of Rajayog, will take himself to the holy order, before becoming a Lord of men. If there be no Rajayog the native becomes an ascetic (religious wanderer).

Here is the chart of the person with sannyasa yoga mentioned before.

Panet Length Navamsa Nakshatra Karaka
Sun 24 27'40" Sa Scorpio P.Shadha Atma
Moon 17 05'18" Sa Virgo P.Shadha Bhratru
Mars R 13 10'50" Cn Libra Pushyami Pitru
Mercury 01 16'57" Sa Aries Moola Dhanya
Jupiter R 05 20'45" Ge Scorpio Mrigasira Gnati
Venus 21 12'23" Sa Libra P.Shadha Amatya
Saturn R 06 16'54" Le Taurus Magha Putra
Rahu 16 36'02" Vi Taurus Hasta Matru
Ketu 16 36'02" Pi Scorpio U.Bhadra
Ascendant 15 21'49" Cn Scorpio Pushyami

Mars in debilitated on lagna. Ve is close to Sun. How do I determine the strongest planet in the cluster? Is it Su as it is Atmakaraka? Or is it determined by Shadbala? In that case JHora calculates 152 for Ma and 124 for Mo. If moon is considered the strongest, then according to parashara, he should become Kapali (the mystic tantrika). I think in this case the sloka 5 applies, as Ve is combust, so the person should become a tapasvi?

Second example. Sannyasa yoga in 4th:

Image
Image

Planet Length Navamsa Nakshatra Karaka
Sun 14 31'47" Li Aquarius Swati Bhratru
Moon 24 15'32" Ar Scorpio Bharani Amatya
Mars 08 53'33" Li Sagittarius Swati Gnati
Mercury R 02 02'55" Li Libra Chitra Dhanya
Jupiter R 14 29'37" Aq Aquarius Satabisha Matru
Venus 13 05'19" Li Capricorn Swati Pitru
Saturn R 25 24'09" Ge Taurus Punarvasu Atma
Rahu 18 19'43" Sc Sagittarius Jyeshta Putra
Ketu 18 19'43" Ta Gemini Rohini
Ascendant 18 16'15" Cn Sagittarius Aslesha

For this native Venus is in own sign and also has highest shadbala points (129). So this person would become "a keeper of Chakra", what ever that means. From Brihat Jataka we get that "--the person born will become a [...] a Jupiter. [...] A Jupiter is a celebrated teacher, endowed with royal splendor.". But as the venus is close to sun, she looses her strength and thus sun should determine the ascetism. But sun is in his sign of debilitation, which as per my understanding cancels this yoga.

Comments are welcome :)

I have still 3 more sannyasa yoga charts in my client database. Some of them have the yoga cancelled due to debilitation. Then I have several 3 planets +Ra/Ke combinations, that do not qualify as sannyasa yoga. But let us first discuss about the above charts first.

rajitha, can you post your brothers chart so we can see why the sannyasa yoga is not manifesting. It can be that the dasa will come later, or the planet that significes the renounciation, is debilitated in navamsa.
Basab

sorry to interfere in this discussion, but is this the chart of your brother you have given in the other section where you had asked about when he will have a child because you have mentioned there that he is passing through the dasha of moon there though he is passing through the dasha of rahu.
well, i don't find any combination for sannyas in his birthcart. but he should be very intelligent, that's very much indicated in the birthchart and very rigid and stubborn. he is a very strong headed person who loves challenges.

How to include the chart in the posting is said by Vaughan Paul here: Learn how to post images on the discussion board

Here is the chart of rajitha's brother:

Planet Length Navamsa Nakshatra Karaka
Sun 05 03'10" Ge Scorpio Mrigasira Gnati
Moon 27 18'34" Le Sagittarius U.Phalguni Bhratru
Mars 25 18'49" Le Scorpio P.Phalguni Pitru
Mercury 28 43'00" Ge Gemini Punarvasu Atma

Rahu 29 15'58" Cn Pisces Aslesha Dhanya
Ketu 29 15'58" Cp Virgo Dhanista
Ascendant 16 07'15" Pi Scorpio U.Bhadra

In Navamsa we can find exalted Ju and debilitated Ve. But I do not see why this would not be a sannyasa yoga, if considering the rules given by Parashara that I have posted above. Basab, could you please explain what is the rule that nullifies this four-planet combination of being an sannyasa yoga?
Basab

hello Rajitha,
according to the software i use which is very correct the dasha is of rahu and not moon.
Basab

hello Arjunanda,
extremely sorry for making such a confident statement. i blindly follow the articles of Mr. Vaughn Paul and my knowledge is limited to that. i have never read Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and honestly speaking didn't understand a single point mentioned in the theories you have posted above from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. though some of the combinations for sannyas yoga mentioned in Vaughn Paul's article exists in Rajitha's brother's b-chart but it's not strongly impacting the chart so mentioned that there is no sannyas yoga in his chart. well, i have seen many charts with 4 planets in one house and the person has never taken to sannyas. if you see former PM Rajiv Gandhi's birthchart there are 5 planets in his lagna but he never took to sannyas. i believe this combination is found in many horoscopes and just looking at it you can't say a person will become spiritual. the dasha the person is running through is very important and if a person doesn't get the dasha of a planet that is forming the sannyas yoga then the person may not take to spirituality. i am not countering the theory that is given in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra but what i am saying is you just can't pick one yoga from the book and predict something because there may be another yoga in another chapter of the book which may counter the effects that this combination you have mentioned for sannyas is stating. Rajitha's brother may take sannyas but you can't say it confidently just because there are 4 planets in one house in Rajitha's brother's b-chart i don't know, maybe you have all the theories of Parashara in your fingertips in which case Rajitha's brother will surely become a saint but if it's not that then you never know for sure. well, i myself should not have made such a strong statement that sannyas yoga is not there in the b-chart because i know much less than you and i apologise for that.
well, i consider Mr. Vaughn Paul as Parashara of our times. i follow his articles and whatever i have learned so far is just from this website of his.

hello Astrospirit,
i completely agree with you. i think we should consider the 12th house, 9th house, 5th house and 8th house as well when we are looking for sannyas yoga in a b-chart.
Basab

i have never heard anywhere that aquarius is a spiritual sign.

Hello,

I have four planets in 12th house of navamsa chart. They are moon, sun, venus and mercury.

My birth details are-
Date= 10 Aug 1985
Place= Bhilai, Chattisgarh, India
Time= 00:12

Do I have pravrajya yoga, specialy since this planetry combination is present in Navamsha, not Rasi/Ascendent chart? What does the presence of these four planets in 12th signify and what they mean when they are in navamsa but not natal chart.

Sannayasam -Sanyas is actually a sanskrit word and it is described really as below "Sath Nayasam Krithva Saha Sanyasi" meaning "Sath" means which is there always, which never perishes. Nayasam Krithva means to get into it or accepting it. To get into what? To get into yourselves is the real answer means "your self" is the thing which never perishes.

A real sanyasi will be living in the midst of everything. Sannayasm does not mean going into forest after leaving everything....That is not the right way of doing it.

Now coming to renunciation, what actually is renunciation? Who is renuncing who? Once you are in there, the renunciation happens only in the material plane, but in conscious plane everybody and everything is with him/her. Remember Viswarupa Darshna.

Regards,

Narayan

Answering this 3 year old topic now, as I found there are questions posted for me which have remained unanswered due to my travels and spending time in ashrams.
rajitha wrote:can you tell me which dasha might bring the renunciation in him and why since you mention that he has sanyasa yoga.
The birth time seem non-rectified and quite inaccurate. Therefor the chart here may not be correct. I have not attempted any rectification.

It will be the strongest of the mentioned planets. I casted again Rajitha's brother chart to see which one is the strongest. First, none of the planets involved in the sannyasa yoga are combust. Second, none of them is weak in shad bala and mars is the strongest. As per the rule of parashara, he would renounce in the mahadasa of Mars. That is in 1996-2003. He was very young and it did not come into fruition then. The next possibility would be during Jupiter mahadasa, starting in 2021. And remember, this is just testing how this rule works. This is not prediction, it is research for study purposes.

Are there other factors in this chart, other combinations for sannyasa?
8. If Moon be in the decanate of Saturn, or in the Navams of Saturn, or Mars and be aspected by Saturn, the native becomes an ascetic and enters the holy order, signified by Saturn.
I assume decanate=trimsamsa. Moon is not in trimsamsa or navamsa of staturn, but is conjunct with saturn in both cases. This though not being a second sannyasa yoga, strengthens the above mentioned four planet combination.

I still think that this person may take sannyasa, or informally start leading a life of an ascetic from the beginning of Ju mahdasasa from 2021 onwards.

Well all these yogas described by K.N.Rao in the article mentioned above are taken from BPHS.
but it's not strongly impacting the chart so mentioned that there is no sannyas yoga in his chart.
I think it is strong, as this combination occurs in the 1st from moon.
i have seen many charts with 4 planets in one house and the person has never taken to sannyas. if you see former PM Rajiv Gandhi's birthchart there are 5 planets in his lagna but he never took to sannyas. i believe this combination is found in many horoscopes and just looking at it you can't say a person will become spiritual.
Did you look into the cancellation of this yoga? a) the planets being combust by sun, or b) be in the rashi of debilitation, or c) be involved in planetary war? These factors would cancel the yoga or move the fruction to a later stage.

Also, having a sannyasa yoga does not mean the preson will become spiritual per se. It means that there are so many pulls to so many directions that he feels he cannot cope with the world, and will withdraw, will lead a life of an ascetic. Ascetism does not necessarily mean spirituality - many scientists had sannyasa yoga, and that draw them to dedicate their lifes in the study of science.
the dasha the person is running through is very important and if a person doesn't get the dasha of a planet that is forming the sannyas yoga then the person may not take to spirituality.
Exactly!
you just can't pick one yoga from the book and predict something because there may be another yoga in another chapter of the book which may counter the effects that this combination you have mentioned for sannyas is stating.
I am not sure if this is true - Parashara has quite clearly stated the rules for cancellation of this yoga. Though in modern times life is much different, and in other cultures outside of India there are not so many spiritual traditions and sannyasa lineages which one could join. Due to this lack, they may renounce normal life, and become modern city-ascetic, living simplistic life being single, not getting married or living in a relationship and be totally focused on the subject of their passion, be it science, art, reading, sports, animals - or become vagabond hippies, or loose themselves in drug and alcohol abuse.
To become an ascetic is far different from becoming saint. I have not seen strong indications there for him becoming saint. I have said him becoming ascetic of some form.

Ra and Ke are not counted as planets here. Please refer to the Parashara's rules on formation of sannyasa yoga and see whether it is true in your chart or not. Also, as narayan very rightfully mentioned above, sannyasa does not mean to leave everything and go to forest - it means the path to self-discovery, and can mean renouncing material comforts for the pursuit of self. It may mean simplistic lifestyle - and in modern context not necessarily initiation into some traditional sannyasa order, but if other spiritual indiacations are lacing in the charts, it means perhaps dedication to techinical science, psychology, becoming a researcher. Or if there are strong spiritual indications, it means becoming a dedicated spiritual aspirant.
