Dear Anupamji,
In Mahabharata, a holy war was fought between the pandavas and the kauravas to destroy the demons and bring back goodness in the world, but then, why did Kali yuga begin after that--after a pious king like Yudishthira ruled the 'earth'? What was the purpose of the holy war if Kali yuga would begin very soon after that, and Krishna and most of the learned people of that time were aware of that?
Mahabharata--and the onset of Kali yuga

“In that way new yuga starts afresh without the burden of previous yugas.â€
Anupam ji,
I haven’t understood this statement. We have the same souls coming down to Earth. For example: Ram in treta is Krishna in dwapar and Ramakrishna in Kaliyuga. Each time the soul comes, it remembers its earlier experiences, it knows the past completely. Then what type of burden are we talking about.
Regards

Rajitha,
Krishna has said repeatedly in the 'Mahabharata' that Kali yuga would begin very soon, and the signs of that were seen in the later portion of Yudishtira's rule, which was for 36 years (after the Kurukshetra war) because Krishna (and all his relatives) died then because of Gandhari's curse, and the brothers (pandavas) on the instruction of Vyasdeva, after leaving their kingdom to Abhimanyu's son, left for heaven. What happens after the war is written in details in Mahabharata.

Kaliyuga started with the birth of Musalam (Iron rod0 which was responsible for the destruction of Yadavas and submerging of Dwaraka.Iron represents Shani and it's influence is well known. This has further resulted in the weakening of Bharat and invasions from neighbouring countries.Shri Markandeya clearly explains to Shri Dharmaraj the effects of Kaliyuga and when it ends (Mahabharata). The end of Kaliyuga is possible only when the entire Bharat looses it's Vedic values and gets converted to other foreign religion. It is sure to happen as said by Muni Markandeya. Then only Satya Yuga starts reinforcing Vedic values through out the world. This is what Mahabharata says.
