I request senior members to give full details regarding fixing auspicious timings (muhurtham) for marriage and betrothal functions of Hindus. I will be thankful for a detailed post so that a new thread may be started.

1. Days of the week, Thithi, Nakshatras, lagnam to be discarded.

2. Stars to be discarded based on the star of bride and bridegroom.

3. Relevance of sun rise time, lagnam calculation and planets in the 7th and 8th places for the lagnam fixed.

4. Hora time and Gowri auspicious timings etc.

5..Any other factor (tara balam /chandra balam etc.) left out and are to be considered.

Hello KRMani,

MUHURTHA written by B.V.Raman gives the basic requirements.

Any muhurtha, has a definite longevity. In practice, many marriages are conducted on muhurtha days marked
in panchanga. But a few marriages conducted on the so called muhurtha days miserably fail. No panchanga
exactly defines the exact time of marriage. Opinion differs as to what constitutes the actual event marriage.

The whole issue of muhurtha becomes irrelevant, if someone is destined to have a bad marriage. Muhurtha, by
its strength can only see the event of marriage getting completed. It does not guarantee the longevity of the
married life.

Why I say so ?

Just for argument, let us assume , a couple gets married at some time. Let us assume also that a child is born in the same area at the same time. If that marriage breaks in a week, are we supposed to assume that longevity of the child
would be just one week ?

Probably I have given a coarse or crude example, but I feel any muhurtha has some hidden longevity, which may not
be so visible. It could behave in one way for the couple and the other way for the child.

It is tough to ride over destiny through human intervention.

Hello KRMani,

pl refer to todays posting by 'ask2512'.. " should we continue the marriage "
You have a very good example showing how muhurat has failed to protect the marriage. Certain defects in muhurtha
has be ignored. The day of marriage has been chosen from the so called muhurtha days, which unfortunately is not
a good day at all for marriage.

Hi Lightalamp,

Thanks for the informative post. Are there are techniques to calculate the longevity of the event (like marriage , house occupation etc) based on the muhurat?

Further, if the elected time has maraka grahas, and if their period comes in soon, will they effect the aspect for which the Muhurat is fixed?

There is flaw in out conventional system
Most of the people believe in those who are merely known as "pandit"
They know how to perform a ceremony
They are not experienced astrologers.

Just like a person of ordinary intelligence cannot become a genius
No muhurtha can ensure prolonged marriage when there is little astrological compatibility
