having a tough time -

I am pursuing phd in environmental policy in Il, USA. I have recently experienced some obstacles and I thought it would be really helpful to have some guidance from learned astrologers. I gained some helpful suggestion from this forum in the past when there was a tough situation at work 2 years ago.

At this moment, I am trying to clear my qualifier exam which happens to be the last examination for a phd student but it has been a rough ride so far. I was really trying to take it after May/June 2013 and before June 2014 but it got delayed and I was finally able to take it in the last week of April 2014. I passed the written exam without any trouble with 8/8 deciding votes going in my favor. The oral examination was on June 3rd 2014. The results of the oral examination did not go in my favor. I felt that it was really a bad day. One of the members dismissed (god knows why) an answer which was right and i failed to satisfactorily answer some questions. One particular member was very vocal that I need to retake the exam and that judgement prevailed. I get another chance to retake the exam but If i do not clear it this time it will be curtains for me. I am planning on taking the oral in October. The exam will be followed by a proposal defense and I was looking for some suggestions or helpful advice in this regard

placed in 11th is favorable for you and I do not see any major obsatcles during that time. You are likely to pass.

Along with the oral exam, I also need to do a proposal defense in front of the committee and was really wanting to do both before november. The antar of Mangal does not start before 27/10/2016 and I wanted to do both of them in the last 2 weeks of october? Could that be a problem?

There are no hurdles during October but do not delay as next sub dasa of Rahu is likely to bring stress for you.
There is also hope for job during Oct. Good luck.

I could not clear my oral exam. I started well but in the middle and towards the end got nervous and at times made a mess of simple explanations. I did prepare well for this exam as I knew that failure in this exam would mean this would be the end of my phd. As luck would have it, it turned out to be so. In my first oral exam on 3rd June, I was mocked by a committee member because I was explaining a region that exists in the literature but the person who asked me the question was unaware of it. I am not saying i did very well in either of my oral exams but I have seen people passing this exam with very little preparation. I did devote considerable amount of time for the preparation of my oral this time.

The retake of the oral was on 29th oct 3 pm here in carbondale, Illinois, USA which would have meant 30th oct 2.30 am in India I think. I am very anxious now because I have now been given to option to complete my graduate studies with a masters degree (instead of phd) for which I will be funded till may 15th of next year. This has been a great blow to me since I really wanted to complete my phd. Please guide me about my future options. I am thinking about starting a phd in a different school again but the process is lengthy and the earliest it can happen would be aug 2015 or it could be aug 2016. I will have to take my gre and toefl again and complete my application to schools by Jan 2015 for 2015 Aug session which seems like a daunting task. If I wait for the aug 2016, there could be financial and visa problems. I am not sure if I should look for jobs since my aim was to get a phd. Please help me with your wealth of knowledge. regards

Jupiter is the driving force, being the seat of educational aspirations. Positioning in the 8th from the house of recognition these months, i think you were deprived of your ambition.

Dasa wise, ketu has not helped you so far. The antar was that of moon in june-2014. Moon is the 8th lord in
siddhamsa. Right now mars antar is running which is also not placed well.

Rasi transit of saturn and rahu are also bad. I do not expect anything good until atleast the start of jupiter
antar. But what about finances till then ? Plainly speaking what is big taking Phd ? What do you really
need, knowledge or a three letter after your name. Dont mistake me, try to circumwent the situation
by trying for other educational pursuits.

Thanks a lot vedicmaths. I agree with you that there was less drive to plunge into research for the last couple of months. I will complete my masters and graduate by may 2015 (that's how long i will be funded). I am trying to think the next step but it's a haze so far. Another attempt at PhD sounds impractical at this moment. As you correctly mentioned finances will be a problem. I will not be able to stay here without a source of income for long. After may 2015, I think I can probably stay another year on OPT and try to find a job. Should I be thinking about going back to India or should I try to find a job here ? What other educational pursuits are you suggesting? Best regards

Sincerely speaking, you may not find a suitable job in india with a decent salary in the field of your educational
qualification. So it would be better to complete masters and find a job there to generated some finance. Also
other personal matters will have an important part in taking a decision. Jupiter's antar from apr-2016 to next
april is fit for some educational pursuit. Since it is too short a period, you may be the best judge to decide
about it.
