Hi Saindhaviji,

I'm a tula lagna, vrishba rashi boy. I've done quite a bit of research online and over a year a so I've learnt Jupiter is the most malefic planet for tula lagna. It is, what I've read, due to it owning houses 3 and 6. But, I've also read that just owning houses which are bad does not mean Jupiter will be bad for me. It's interesting to think that a planet widely accepted for its benefic and supremely helpful nature might cause disaster in someone's life.

Now, my Jupiter hasn't started yet. My Rahu - Mars will start in July, 2014 and will continue for a year. Jupiter starts in July, 2015.

My birthday is on 13th April, 1986 and I was born at 20:13 in Patna, Bihar. Jupiter is present in the 5th house (a trikona house). It aspects the 9th house and the lagna. My lagna is weak as it is conjunct with Rahu in the 7th house. Jupiter aspects lagna strengthening it. (What I find confusing is if Jupiter is malefic how can it strengthen my lagna?)

In Navamsa, Jupiter is the 7th lord and is in the 10th house with Sun, another malefic to tula lagna.

Ideally, marriage occurs in the 7th lord's mahadasha or antardasha. My marriage thus, should be expected in Rahu - Mars (according to lagna chart) and Jupiter - Jupiter (according to Navamsa chart). Jupiter ideally bestows your marriage and children but since it is malefic, could you please tell me if despite this shortcoming, it would bestow it?

Also, could you please analyze the Jupiter mahadasha's effects on family, career and well-being?

During my Rahu Mahadasha I had faced severe mental stress in all aspects of life for over 10 years. And Rahu Mahadasha took me abroad after marriage (which is also not happy) in August 2012. Don't worry about Jupiter - it's the least problematic planet in your chart.

Jupiter period is not likely to be bad, but I will advise that if you get any job during Rahu Mahadasha, take it and don't leave it later.

I too am Libra Lagna and I am running the Mahadasha of a powerful Jupiter. My own experience is that Rahu being a materialistic planet, will bring you financial gains and also job prospects - even if it is malefic. Jupiter, even if benefic, is a planet of religiosity and hence, tends to tone down the materialistic stability of the native. At the same time, prosperity brought by Rahu doesn't stay for long after Rahu Mahadasha ends. Hence, often people who leave an opportunity brought by Rahu, suffer during Jupiter Mahadasha and blame Jupiter. But the truth is that they left an opportunity brought by Rahu and Jupiter will not reverse the situation. Hence, they are left with much less materialistic stability in Jupiter Mahadasha than they had during Rahu Mahadasha.

This is not because Jupiter is a malefic. It's because the native didn't make best use of the materialistic advantage brought by Rahu.

In my own experience, Jupiter periods have always gone well for me. So, I don't regard Jupiter as a malefic for Tula Lagna.

Coming to your chart, there are many problems in your chart.

Saturn is malefic in 2nd house of wealth and family. Moon is powerful in 8th, which is not good for overall well-being. Mars has a malefic aspect on your 10th house of career and 9th house of Bhagya. Rahu-Ketu axis is malefic in 1-7, thus suppressing the growth of Lagna and delaying marriage. Sun is powerful in 6th house of conflicts, oppositions and financial problems. Sun is also in Sandhi, causing further problems for 6th house. Mercury is combust.

Jupiter though in an enemy sign, is a rare planet in your chart which may bring financial prosperity by aspecting 11th house of financial gains. Moreover, its aspect may control Ketu to some extent.

Another good feature is that Venus aspects its own house in the Lagna.

I see you going through a lot of struggle in career, marriage and financial stability because of the problems in your chart. Jupiter and Venus save you to a large extent.

Wear any one of the following which you can afford - diamond 2.7 carats set in gold, white sapphire 4.5 carats set in gold, or opal 6.3 carats set in silver.

Let me first thank you a million for explaining so clearly and openly your analysis. Also, you spent a lot of time and I'm very grateful to you for that. I really am.

I do have a few doubts and if you have some patience, I'd like to clarify them with you.

1) Career

Lagna chart - You are absolutely correct Moon is mooltrikona in Taurus in the 8th house. I've heard my grandmother say when I was a child that since my 10th lord is placed in its sign of exaltation but in a house of obstacles will cause breaks in my career but overall prosperity and good positions will eventually follow. (She passed last year.) Would you agree with this or would you disagree?

Mars represents the house of spouse, marriage, partnerships, family, social status etc. It is located in the house of efforts and ambitions. It is influencing the houses ruling competition, fortune, profession, foreign etc. It also seems to have decent astakavarga bindus. Therefore wouldn't I find its sub period to be supportive for enjoying good health and happiness on account of my personal life and gains through partnerships (i.e. career)?

Dashamamsha - 10th lord of this chart is Mars. It's sitting in the 10th house in it's own sign. That makes it very strong. Do you not think that career would be good because of this? (Moon is the 12th house)

I have just graduated from Graduate school and am looking to get a job. I'm abroad. I wanted a part time job while studying earlier but Rahu - Moon denied it. Now, that I've graduated and Rahu - Mars is going to start, do you think this period will be capable of producing a job?

2) You said Saturn is malefic in 2nd house. But, isn't Saturn a benefic to our lagna? On another note, Saturn is retrograde and I think it is also causing delay in marriage.

3) Marriage

There are some problems in marriage which can be foreseen from the chart - not just in producing marriage but also after that.

Lagna chart - Rahu is in 7th house with Venus
Mars - the lord of the 2nd and 7th house is likely to cause difference in opinion after marriage

The difference in opinion doesn't bother me much. Libras can easily manage their relationships - relationships being the centre of our being and all.

Navamsa - Venus is well placed. Jupiter seems to be decently placed as well in the 10th house in the sign of Saturn.

I feel Jupiter antardasha will bring about marriage.

I think you can get a job in Rahu - Mars, but eventually you may face problems at work because of colleagues. Lagna chart is the primary chart and other charts are secondary. Mars aspect on 10th and 10th Lord in 8th may cause problems.

Of course, this will be influenced by what kind of work you do. If you are in an 8th house profession, then you are likely to rise. 8th house signifies hidden things such as mining, decoding encoded material and any such thing. If I know your profession, I can tell you about it. 8th house will certainly give you wealth, but there may be struggles on the way.

Rahu-Venus in 7th in Aries may really delay marriage, further helped by Saturn in 2nd house of family and wealth. Saturn is a Yogakaraka for Tula Lagna, but it should be causing good yogas in Lagna chart to give good effects. In 2nd it is in an adverse sign and you are also running Sadhe Sati. Scorpio Saturn will also transit over your natal Saturn from November onwards.

Do the remedies I told you. if you can't do the Pujas abroad, ask your family in India to get it done in your name.

My education was Electrical and Electronics Engineering followed by MBA in Finance. So, the profession will be definitely be finance. May be accounting or financial research or investment. (I'm studying for Chartered Financial Analyst). I don't think the career is anything occult or underground related, is it? You could say "research" is underground related as if I get a job in it, I might be uncovering information and you may be right. But, at present or in the next few years, I doubt I might be doing research as it requires experience.

I did not realize I was and am running Sadhe Satti. I feel like an idiot now. Could you please tell me from when I have been running it and till when I'll be running it? (I prepared a report on astrosage.com and it had a page on Sade Satti. I've attached a part of it and it did not say I was running Sade Satti so I'm confused.) You pointed out, "Scorpio Saturn will also transit over your natal Saturn from November onwards." So I'm assuming more complications for 2 and a half years after that?

A little scared after your statement of marriage being "really" delayed due to Rahu-Venus. Could you speculate on the antardasha? I really think Jupiter antardasha might be it. Once Saturn leaves natal Saturn (January, 2017), marriage will be given a green light and will occur in the remainder of the Jupiter antardasha.

Would it be the same if I listen to Durga Saptashati every Navaratri? (I would like to be sincere enough to be doing my part myself.)

I'll do this starting today: Recite Mahamrityunjaya Mantra 108 times daily and pray to Ganesha, Hanuman and Vishnu-Lakshmi daily.

I fast every Thursday - no food or water till 6 PM - and have been doing it for the past 3-4 years. Once I start working, I'll change it to Saturday. Should I also fast every Purnima and pray to Vishnu-Lakshmi if possible, as you have said?

What I meant to write was that in current transit, Scorpio Saturn will be 7th from Moon sign and this may cause problems. Yes, Scorpio Saturn may be troublesome for 2 and a half years.

Yes, Jupiter-Jupiter seems most likely period for marriage - after this Jupiter-Mars may be the next good period for marriage.

Well, I know about Rahu-Venus in 7th delaying marriage - I too have this combination. If you get a good arranged marriage proposal, go for it.

Research is actually signified by the 8th house - in addition to Jupiter and other planets associated with education and job. So, research will be good for you.

Financial analysis is also a kind of research, so you should do well in this field. Your Lagna Lord Venus aspecting the Lagna will help you in this, apart from 10th Lord in 8th. Vishnu-Lakshmi Puja will be especially helpful.

Thursday fast is done for Vishnu-Lakshmi, so you should continue with it. After you get the job, you can fast every Purnima, which is for Vishnu-Lakshmi.

You can listen to Durga Saptashati every Navaratri, in addition to a priest in India doing the Puja for you.

But take care that before and after the Saptashati there are several sections, which also you have to listen, apart from the 700 verses.

Most recordings give only the 700 verses, not the sections before and after them. You can get the entire text in PDF from the Internet and download videos of the sections that are not included in the recording. Watch the videos in addition to the recording.

I really was shocked when I heard Sade Satti. Thank God it was just a slip else it'd have spelled doomsday for me. I'd definitely not get a job otherwise!

Rahu + Venus for you too? Wow! Nice. I know Rahu causes problems but it has its perks too. I don't think I could ever go for an arranged marriage. I've known it since I was a 4 or 5 year old kid. Venus being the the ruler would have something to do with that. Moreover, my Rahu started in 1998 and my parents moved abroad (not to the country I'm in now but another one) and I have been fascinated with "foreignness" ever since. I like most things foreign - food, culture, scenery. Sometimes I think I have a biased view. But, then I don't like them just blindly and my Libra trait of balance and unbiasedness comes to the forefront. Now, when I look back at the growth of mindset from childhood to now, I realize my marriage would indeed be an unconventional marriage just as Rahu and Venus conjunction symbolizes. Arranged marriage was never for me.

Just out of curiosity, was your marriage an unconventional one? I'm sure you in your Rahu days liked foreign things too and maybe that played a part in mindset and/or causing the marriage. And, when did Rahu/Jupiter grant you marriage?

Now, I never knew financial analysis was symbolized by the 8th house. Thank you! They say if you have a strong Rahu, you shouldn't do a job in Electrical things but I never knew so much astrology (in depth) that time and pursued Electrical and Electronics Engineering in India. I wasn't an exceptional student, just above average, and I realized I'd be better off in Management.

My small mind didn't even know Thursday puja is done for Vishnu - Lakshmi. My mother used to and still does "Thursday Puja" for Lord Guru and though I was never asked by her to do it, I decided to choose a day of the week and fast myself as an offering from myself. Thursday was chosen as it was in the middle of the week and I'd have something to look forward to during the week. I'll keep it up as per your guidance.

If that Durga Saptashati link has a run time of 3 hours, then most likely it has only 700 verses, not the other sections, because 700 verses of Saptashati take about 3 hours to recite. The link I sent you has all the sections. Watching the video should have similar impact as attending a real Saptashati recital, if you watch with concentration.

Well, I have always been inclined towards all things foreign since childhood, even though I have spent most of my life in India. I too rejected all arranged marriage proposals because I was against arranged marriage. It so happened that I am much older than you and am still single. Of course, you being a boy will find it easier to get married.

There are several similarities between your chart and mine, though I have some powerful combinations which you don't have. But your Rahu Mahadasha seems to have gone much better than mine did.

I really don't know the reason behind this. Perhaps because you seem to have much greater devotion towards God than I did during Rahu Mahadasha - I was not religious at all in those days, nor believed in astrology. I didn't even know my time of birth, nor anything about astrology. But I suffered so much during Rahu-Sun that I asked for my chart from my mother and gradually learnt astrology. By the time I could read my chart properly and found the remedies, Rahu Mahadasha was over and Jupiter Mahadasha had begun.

Well, Rahu signifies both Electrical Engineering and Management. But Management is also related to Venus, because it deals with business, so you have made the right decision by opting for it, because your Rahu is not in the very best place.

I really thought you were married. Would you like to share your birth details with me please?

I was never much into God. I thought it was fatalist. I believed in will power. My grandmother (and my soulmate other than my future wife) was a great astrologer. She was religious and very, very wise (not just knowledgeable) too. She told me at 8 how my life would be - career, wife, traits. Al I cared about was my wife (being a Libra and all) and I remembered only that. She was very, very accurate with her predictions with every member of our family. My Rahu was just going to start in a few years but before that my Mars was going to start. She told me to take a lot of care. There would be injuries. Then, she explained they would be to the head during Rahu. She told the reason behind it i.e. the story of Rahu and Ketu. She was right. During Mars, I injured my body many times and during Rahu all my injuries were head related - I got many stitches over the course due to multiple injuries. Thank God no more head related injuries for the past few years. I hope it doesn't surface 1 last time as a Goodbye present during Rahu - Mars.

I am not a religious person. I'm a very spiritual person now. I trusted my grandmother and had a lot of faith in her not just in astrology but in every thing. She really understood me. I told her my thinking - Things can't be predicted as fatalism. They are a result of our actions. She would smile at me and say, "Wait and watch patiently." Over years I've seen my life turn out to be as she predicted. Her favorite quote was 'Where there is a will, there is a way' but she used to say it with a caveat. You can only change a few minor things. I now realize she was right. (See the connection between age 8 when my Mars was going to start and I believed in will power and now.)

She became selfish last year and left me. She should have taken me too. What a pity!

I used to look down upon idol worship. To me, puja needn't be done by offering fruits or putting a garland around an idol. Pray from your soul and pray without any physical limitations. Close your eyes and pray. But I realize that since I don't know the verses, I'll have to listen to them. Thank you for going out of your way and giving the link to the dates!

Do you want to marry an Indian boy? If not, don't you think foreigners don't really mind a lady's age however old she may be and you can still get married?

My father used to say I should do an MBA in Finance even before I got into Engineering. (It now makes sense to me why and I asked him to confirm, which he explained.) I'm a Taurus by moon sign and the caste is "Vaishya". An astrologer other than my grandmother had also told him that I'd make a good financier as "money" concepts come easy to me. Hence, I was brainwashed for good and I completely agree.

Lastly, I wouldn't say Rahu was the best for me. It has given me bipolarity and OCD - very logical problems seeing as to what Rahu is.

I couldn't find any general info on Jup MD Sat AD. I know its not right to be dependent on general info as each chart has its own tale and more importantly that karma backlog that unfolds itself with time yet I remember that that the Rahu MD thread has some pretty precise general trends for the period as a whole i.e. Mahdasa and then for each antardasa especially those like Rahu MD Ketu AD

So I was looking for something similar on Jup MD and the antardasa. More so for Sat AD since I've just entered it.
