Svagata to all - what are the degrees in which Rahu & Ketu in conjunction with the Sun will combust it's (Sun) positive energies. Also, is there somewhere I could refer to the exact combustion degrees for all grahas.

what I understand prakash is that the sun would suffer from such conjunction. degrees has always been a debatable issue and many astrologers follow their own degrees to judge this conjunction.
"chandradityavimardanam" word has been used for rahu in the navgraha stotra.

Thank you for the reply archit. I was going through BPHS awhile ago and did not find any reference to the degrees/conjunction of grahas towards the Sun's combustion. I'm not sure if I could arbitrarily take a number and use it as for Rahu & Ketu

the stotra you mentioned says chandra (moon) aditya(sun) vimardanam (destruction) , would that mean, besides Sun, Rahu & Ketu destroys the Moon's positive qualities as well?

As per my understanding Rahu and Ketu eclipse Sun & Moon.
The effects depend upon how close/tight the conjunction is.
For Sun the diameter is huge so we need to consider combustion/conjuction to Sun for more degrees than in case of moon

I think all the other members have answered your question but I do want to reiterate and add a point.
1/ Rahu and Ketu never gets combusted as they are shadow planets or nodes and not true planets
2/ To all studies and research I have done, it is always better for Rahu and Ketu to be placed alone in the lagna chart and not with other planets. Jupiter is the one and ONLY planet to control Rahu and Ketu and the best position of Jupiter is away from Rahu/Ketu and throw a 5th, 7th or 9th aspect on Rahu/Ketu, preferably a 5th or 9th versus 7th.
3/ Rahu with any planet in a house for example will make Rahu use his head and use the other planet as body and will spoil the other planet benefits.
4/ Ketu is just body and head-less and will try to act oversmart when placed with a planet.
5/ For example again, if Jupiter is placed with Rahu in a same house, then Jupiter will focus all its energy to control Rahu there Jupiter won't do what it was suppose to do meaning what it was suppose to give may be lost.
6/ Rahu and Ketu loves the sun (soul) and Moon (Mind) and they would literally spoil all the yogas that the sun and moon may provide if they are with sun and moon.

As rahu moves backward and sun moves forward, if rahu degrees are less than that of sun then it gradually moves away from the sun and the sun is escaping rahu thereby the effect being somewhat less.

what degree of proximity you feel that Rahu badly damages sun. Roughly 10 degree? I take it as serious damage if they are in same nakshatra.
