Hello,

I was wondering if vedic astrology can tell whether a person is a good/bad person?

I know that moon represents the mind, so does having an exalted moon mean a person is pure minded/of pure soul; saturn is a judge of our deeds so does having saturn exalted/in friendly signs mean you do/have done very good deeds

This may be true. but I have checked with the database of saints provided with the Jhora and I have found that many of the them have malefic at their trine. very few have benefics at their ascendants or trines. does'nt this contradicts the rule.

Well, I am definitely not talking about saints. All spiritual persons display some degree of detachment and animosity towards worldly life so malefics like Ketu are definitely involved. But when you interact with different people in your daily life and you want to know what their intentions are then you follow that rule of benefics in the ascendant or in the mutual trines.

Then the results are a mixed bag, whichever is stronger has an upper hand but results are modified as per the dasa and transits too. At least one strong benefic in the ascendant is a safe bet but it needn't have to be ascendant all the time - strong benefics Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Moon 5 and 9 from each other is another indicator. For example: Moon in the 5th from Venus shows someone who is very kind to others and also the exaltation of Venus can do wonders in the case.

The best way to judge is by checking the state of its atmakarka.
The 9th lord is also one indicator. The position and state of Venus and Jup is also indicator of person's soul.
Benefics in trines -- also known as lakshmi sthana -- are indicator of good souls.

Moon in the 5th from Venus shows someone who is very kind to others and also the exaltation of Venus can do wonders in the case.

I have exalted venus in the 5th from moon, and I am very kind.

As Elipsis said results are modified as per dasha and transits. With Rahu in 12H aspected by Jupiter and undergoing Rahu dasa I guess you‘re bound to donate to noble causes....

I will always look at their atmakaraka and which house it is placed. Next is moon and mars how its placed. A good nurtured people will have Guru aspecting their moon or mars.

I know that there are a lot of responses to my question and in fairness I'm not an astrologer it's really something that I'm passionate about and I enjoy, but my observation has been that anyone who has saturn in a very strong sign i.e aquarius, capricorn, taurus, virgo, libra in the d9 chart; those individuals are very nice, very good people and do very good deeds especially if saturn's in aquarius in d9 I can tell that this person has really done a lot to help unprivileged people/people who are helpless. I'm not saying this because i have saturn in aquarius; I truly am not; I'm saying this because the people who have a very strong saturn in the D9 chart more so sign then house those individuals really do do a lot and I mean A LOT of good deeds. To the general society, they may seem like bad people, but in actuality they are very very very good people. An ex) is Dr. Jack Kevorkian-the man went to jail/he was branded a mad doctor by society/a monster etc... for helping his patients committ suicide, but in his d9 he has saturn in aquarius and I can tell you that he truly cared about people and wanted to genuinely help them even if it meant putting his life/reputation at risk. Another ex) Mark Wahlberg-went to jail for attacking a man-now the man's filthy rich and has donated a lot of $$$$ to the church/afterschool programs that go to kids in violent areas. Both have saturn in aquarius in d9. I'm a young guy in fairness, but I can tell you the way they talk and I've seen other ex)s they genuinelly wants to help people and genuinelly wants to make the lives of the less fortunate better. So if you want to see the ultimate judge of how good a person is and I've looked @ 1000s of charts famous people, dead people, friends, family, etc... I can assure you all that the people who I know personally who are truly good people and genuinely want to make the lives of other people especially the needy people i.e the people starving every day, homeless, kids in africa, etc... more so than the main birth chart in the d9 if saturn is strong at least by sign then yes I am very confident to say that these people are very good people. A person can be born with a poor saturn in the main chart, but to me the d9 chart is really the core of a person's horoscope and how truly strong their life and potential is. I've seen people who may seem nice but are really bad people and they have weak saturn placements i.e it's in a criminal sign aries, scorpio, cancer. I know some people are going to think I'm totally wrong, but honestly I can care less because I know that by studying saturn's placement in d9 I can really get a very very strong understanding about how good of a person someone is.

You want to know why Saturn strong in D9 signifies a nice person.

Saturn stands for the masses. When Saturn is strong, the person's interaction with the masses is strong. He is accountable to the masses and he would not take advantage of them. Plus Saturn also denotes appeasement to the Gods and one way to appease God is to appease the masses - in fact most deities require the person to do something for the common man.

And that is how the D9 chart come in. And that is how you get really sterling people whose Saturn is well placed by sign in D9. As simple as that.

Yeah true, I've seen a lot of people appear as genuine and selfless to their goals, work and masses but when it comes to family life and love life they are totally opposite.

Thats a very interesting point. My mother is one of the most kind hearted persons I have seen - and she has Sat in Aq in D9. She would be donating a lot to poor people & related causes & urging us to do the same too.

Yes, that is why in the Puranas we have two separate sets of precepts of right living - one is for the Yogi and one for the common man.

For the Yogi, he is concerned with the Parabrahman within him which is the Sun.

For the ordinary man, he is supposed to show devotion to God. In Kali Yuga, just uttering the word of God (mantras) help but it can be strengthened with external devotion to God including rituals, charities, doing good to others etc.

Don't forget Saturn and Sun are technically kings (leaders).

Sun rules by charisma which indirectly is a manifestation of our soul inside.

Saturn rules by the book of the dos and don'ts. Thus is the external manifestation of doing the right thing.

Bad Saturn in D9 will take a large portion of the pie of goodness in a person's chart.

But NOTE : bad placement of a planet like in a debilitated or enemy sign including Saturn, does not mean inherently bad. It is more that it signifies the person has a more inner locus of control within himself. If with good aspects from other planets or placed or ruling good houses, such person may be very spiritual.

You have also got to look at the other factors impinging on a not so good Saturn placement ie. like in Aires, Leo etc.

barack obama has saturn in capricon in d9. republicans give so much hell but I'll tell you compared to them and even those in his party he genuinelly has done many good things for people and really helped a lot of people especially poor and masses.

So I guess in terms of soul, he is good too as a person.
