How to take care of vedic Gem ring?..

many astrologer advice to wear vedic Gems..,the gems work on light theory..
The light passes the gem and activate the chakra powers of the specific planet..,thus planets become powerful and give good results..,but as the time passes the base of the ring collects dirt and various things like food particles,soap..etc..,
Some astrologer say's "don't take the ring off!!..,or it will not be able to give results"..
But my query is if the base is itself dirty how will be gem light give positive result?.,a dirty base will reflect unclear rays and results will decrease...
Can any learned mamber will answer this..?

i regularly remove the rings and clean the base via soap and brush...after cleaning them dry i chant the vedic beej mantra of sun and moon as well as jupiter..,while concentrating on the rings..
