Planetary posisitions do not determine that. Some believe Ketu in 12th gives moksha but obviously this a telltale, nobody can give testimony anyway so nobody would know. To tell you the truth, planets don't really have the power to give salvation- their job is to control your fate and not let you go Scot-free. You can get Moksha only by practicing Brahma Yoga or if you receive blessings from a highly accomplished spiritual person or if God blesses you- sometimes he does, so good luck with that.

You answered that very well elipsis:elipsis wrote:Planetary posisitions do not determine that. According to Artha-Panchakam, mokshopaayam (means to attain moksha) are 5 fold - Karma, Gyana, Bhakti, Prapatti, and Acharya Abhimanam. According to Yagnavalkya Smriti there are 12 means to attain moksha - out of which he says the best and easiest is "nyasa" which equates with "prapatti" in the artha-panchaka list. "blessings from a highly accomplished spiritual person" is the easiest according to Artha Panchaka, which calls is Acharya Abhimaanam.
Question is where do you find that person and who is such a person that is qualified to bless us to attain moksha? You find that person ONLY when God blesses you - and infact, self effort in trying to find that person is completely futile. Why is self-effort futile? Because we are all full of prejudices and our own gunas - esp. rajas and tamas. We have our own viewpoints on everything and we measure everything by a yardstick - whereas this guru/acharya may not really measure by that yardstick. Prapatti can lead one to an acharya - because it means complete surrender to the Lord.
Surrendering to Krishna is considered the best - because he is considered the Maha Acharyan (The Name Krishnamachari comes from that - Krishna + Maha + Acharya = Krishnamachari). and Krishna does not accept surrender unless it comes unconditionally and spontaneously. Case in point - Draupadi Cheer Haran, and Gajendra Moksha incidents. In Draupadi Cheer Haran, He saves her when she finally surrenders to Him. After the incident Draupadi asked Krishna, could you not have helped me earlier, like when Dushasan entered my house with the evil intent? Krishna said, " you were exerting your own effort to save yourself, how can I interfere?" Similarly, in Gajendra Moksha, the elephant fought with the crocodile to save itself. Since that incident happened in the deva loka, it is said that the fight went on for almost 1000 years before Gajendra called out for help from the "Creator of this Universe" - and guess who rushed to his help! None other than Sriman Narayana. and He rushed to the scene so fast, that even Garuda could not carry him that fast - so He decided to carry Garuda on His shoulders to land there. Garuda later on asked him - you could have gone there yourself, why did you carry me? The Lord said, "Without you, and Sudarshana Chakra, how would Gajendra recognize me?". (The story occurred in the 5th Manvantara according Bhagavada Puran).
According to 15th Century saint, Manavaala Maamunigal, the acharaya that grants Moksha is Swami Ramanuja (Who is an avataar of Adi-Seshan or Sesh-Naag. He has stated this emphatically in his work called "Aarthi Prabandham".
Like you said, planets do not have the power to grant Moksha because they are also jeevatmas working towards their own salvation! So is the case of all the devas from Brahma to Indra, Agni, Vaayu etc.
Long story short - You get God's blessings if you surrender to him. That leads to you finding a highly accomplished spiritual person. The Spiritual person's blessings will lead to moksha. So the first step is Surrender. In order to surrender one should be ready to let go of "all attachments" and consider God as his only friend, philosopher, guide, parents, relatives, wealth - everything!
Vaazhi Yatiraasan! Vaazhi Yatiraasan! Vaazhi Yatiraasan.
Sudarshang, thank you for your post, I couldn't have put in a better context. The concept of moksha is rather intriguing to me, to everyone it just means the cessation from rebirth but it's much more complicated than that- because some believe you cannot get real moksha until only cycle of Brahma, the destruction of the universe. According to Kena Upanishad only one guy managed to get very close to salvation from Lord Vishnu and he was Indra. comes as no surprise to be because Rig Veda was full of Indra and Agni, whether we accept the metaphysical meaning like the practice of yoga by activating all 5 chakras and releasing the soul from the body singing aum or surrendering to God or if we accept them to be living persons who attained certain posts after their Yoga, the mystery still remains.

Dear Kainous,
It is good to note that you even through from Texas is interested in this.
Just for gags. All beings from one source so all are equal for Him. And your point that "It still comes from the ego" shows you are grown to this point.
Now let me share the indications of Moksha in Astrology, as i understand.
12th house indicates moksha as well as misery too. ketu is the significator.
The condition of 12th house and 12th lord with the support of 5th,9th houses are to be studied. But the entire horoscope along with Dasa sequence should be supportive.
In your horoscope, 12th house is loaded with 3 benefics, lagna lord in 12th and 12th lord aspect 12th house all show a good spiritual inclination. The dasa running is of Jupiter exalted in 12th house, as a 5th and 8th lord is very good for spiritual studies in this period.
Jupiter in D9 with ketu is also good for spiritual practices.
Next period is of Saturn in lagna is good but with rahu shows hidden ambitions which may activate in upcoming Saturn dasa.
Still it is good, in your current period you can devote as much time possible to spirituality. you will get so much peace when your ego is absent and just find ways for it.
Mars aspecting 5th house shows, you will be much inclined to efforts, logic and intelligence. So Bhakthi yoga, like surrender may not suit you.
Kriya yoga of Yogananda or awareness methods of Eckhart tolle may be more helpful.
Moksha, is a ultimate freedom from self, we can aim that and try as much possible. And when unfavorable dasa/period comes, let us finish the karmas/desires and pray to god.
wish you good luck and grace.

Elipsis, yes it is indeed an intriguing concept for everyone. Greats like Vishvamitra have faltered on their path to attaining it. Brahma has a life-span of 100 "brahma" years - which approximately translates to 311 trillion human years. At the end of one Brahma cycle there is maha-pralayam soon after which creation starts all over again. A new Brahma is created who then takes over creation for the next 100 Brahma years. There have been Brahmas before and there will be Brahmas later. The entire concept of time-span of 100 Brahma years is described in the various puranas clearly. There are mini-pralayas in between during which three worlds - the Bhu, Bhuva: and Suva: are destroyed. In that mini-pralaya Indra and other devas die and new Indra and devas take over. Not sure what is the proof for Indra getting moksha in Kenopanishad. could you kindly quote?
Thanks
Thanks
Sudarshang, Indra did not get moksha but came close to it, I don't have the text right now. But you can read the gist here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kena_Upanishad b

Verse from AArti Prabandham describing how to attain moksha: (translated from Tamil):
Worst Hells, if you would like to stay away from, People of this world,
Follow My Dad Yatiraasan's footsteps - Everyday
Recite the peotry dedicated to him*; remain with
his followers always, moksha will be attained.
* Poetry dedicated to him: Iraamaanusa Nootrandaadi which is part of 4000 Divya Prabandam consisting of 108 verses.

when one's wishes are fulfilled.and do not wish to accomplish anymore in life...and do not have any moha...then that stage gives moksha....
After the Mahabharata all the Pandavas started walking towards the himalayas...and started purifying their Sins...Visit to Badrinaath was also in this regard...
Only Aswasthama is still alive because he didnot die in the battle...
All according to scriptures
