when Rama named the shivling that he installed at Rameshwaram as Ramanathan, shiva is supposed to have laughed at Kailash and said, "the world is thinking Rama is speaking in tatpurush, but in reality the name has to be understood in bahuvrihi"

Here is one more from Baba Bulleh Shah:
Na maen bheth mazhab da paaya
Ne maen aadam havva jaaya
Na maen apna naam dharaaya
Na vich baitthan na vich bhaun
Bulleh , ki jaana maen kaun
Meaning:
Secrets of religion, I have not known
From Adam and Eve, I am not born
I am not the name I assume
Not in stillness, nor on the move

the famous verse containing the phrase vasudhaiva kutumbakam
ayam bandhurayam neti gananaa laghuchetasaam
udaaracharitaanaam tu vasudhaiva kutumbakam'
"This person is my own and that one is stranger” such a thought occurs only to the narrow-minded people.
To the broad-minded person the whole world is one family
Sudarshanji thanks for link and also that verse was really nice, first time i heard it, beautiful
Talibji . .. most profound verse

Na vich shaadi na ghamnaaki

Na maen aabi na maen khaki
Na maen aatish na maen paun

Talib Ji,
If you go on bullying Bulleh sha, then he will forget and start remembering you instead
Jokes apart these words are meant to feel with a heart full of emotional pangs. But that is not possible with a written word. Spoken words only have that effect. That too coming from a realised one. Then only it will stir our inner heart.
If we need to discuss, then prose is better

Hmmmmm, here is a nugget of much younger antiquity.
Its in Hindi.
andher nagri, taskar raja
taka seer bhaji, taka seer khaja
In the town of darkness, the thief is king
pound of veggies go for a rupee, pound of candy goes for the same.
Bhaji in this context means an assortment of vegitables. Khaja is a confection made of toughly kneaded dough, which is then fried in ghee and after that soaked in suger syrup. Such ingredients and the labour involved should make it much more expensive than common veggies to be profitable. A seer is an old unit of weight, somewhat equal to a pound, a little less than a kg. A taka or tanka is one rupee. In Bengal and Assam, the word taka is used rather than rupiya, in Orissa the word tanka is used in preference.
Nugget of wisdom - in a state of anarchy, chalk and cheese are deemed of the same value. The good and wise cower, the thieves and villains rule. A virtuous man and a plain villain is taken to be of the same stature.
Moral relativism at its best.
In some versions it is rendered as - Andher nagri, chaupat raja. Taskar/chaupat means the same, Theives, robbers, highwaymen. Villains in short.

Two of my favorites:
Here is a Cherokee Parable:
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy.
"It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego." He continued, "The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other person, too."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
Another:
" If you want to make god laugh, tell him your plans" -Amores Perros ( a movie)

I am happy to see your post after long.
There is another punjabi kallam by baba bulleh shah, "bulleh-aa, sab kooch pulleh-aa(forgot)", which means Bulleh has forgotten everything. Hence, there is no chance he will remeber me in any case
This is very true Krishna ji, only spoken words from realised one can stir our inner heart. Moreover, most of the work is done by the aura around these realised one'skrishnagopal1968 wrote:Jokes apart these words are meant to feel with a heart full of emotional pangs. Most of us are yet on gross level and i think its not all depend on the giver, somewhat its also depend on the reciever. These written word if recieved with his grace, can atleast shake our heart and can work as a seed which may become a tree one day.
Your three lines says it all Krishna Ji, there is nothing remain to discuss.

Thanks for the reply Talib Ji.
For the past few days, I am reading Ramana Sri from David Godman's blog. He mentions (David godman) that Ramana has stated there are only two ways to truth. One is Self enquiry and other is Surrender.
And Osho clearly explains this. Via Affirmativa and Via Negativa. I understand Self enquiry is via negativa and Surrender via affirmativa.
In my understanding, any enlightened being, flies on both the wings. Knowledge and Love. Though he may teach in one path, other is also hidden deep in them. For example my Guru Yogiramsuratkumar attained through Surrender, though he followed Aurbindo and Ramana.
But what most of us do? We chant slokas, devotional songs, mantras without any feeling or love. And we don't do any self enquiry, just quote by copycating scriptures. Also it gives us a 'great image" that we are spiritual in this bad materialistic world
Naturally we end up nowhere as we do like parrots. But we come to wonderful conclusions , My guru is greater than your guru!, my path is wiser than your path, path of yoga or jnana is not right or viceversa, that guru is a fraud!!,There is no nirvana but only Vaigunta or vice versa
Why I don't frequently visit here is, because in my view it is dangerous to be too much in internet forums because in one way my ego will pop up and in other way great misunderstanding on the part of other
Sometimes I write without any motive or from a quiet mind. Only that is meaningful. But in other times ...please refer above...
Yes,it is good to be in topics like this. We can share, discuss, argue intelligently but not fanatically, using our intelligence to see the other's point of view, and in that way keep our flame burning. But only with a few people, we can do that. I am happy that few are there in this forum

This is another beautiful one i came across and decided to post, its charming and is easy to understand even in the original as well. In this one i felt that the subhashitakaar must have examined so many things in depth to come to these conclusions and it is in this that i can glimpse that all of these well said phrases are truly the words of the wise.
Santoshah paramo-laabhah, satsangah paramaagatih
vichaarah paramam jnanam, kshamo hi paramam sukham
Happiness is the highest gain, nobel company is highest achievement
Questioning is highest knowledge, forgiveness is indeed the highest enjoyment

Dear Dev Ji,
The above mentioned was punjabi and not sanskrit
another one from me with LOVE

Ki agar duniya mein Sardaar na hote toh kya hota
Sorry yaar.. duniya bekar.. bina Son Of Sardar
Sun of sardar can never be debilitated

well I posted the original script to maintain essence of the thread. For Sun debilitated or not debilitated shoudn't be a problem ... for sane would always avoid its proximity unless he wants to run around with pants burning down.
Dev wrote:Thanks for putting it now, I know some Sanskrit and may guess the words but I said, u may better put it for the benefit of all. Anyway you were slow may be because sun is just out of debilitation.
