Our birthdate plays a vital part in our lives- it should not only be for remembrance or celebration but the questions as to why, when and how, these are always ignored. The moment you are born your spiritual clock starts, human soul yearns for another adventure, another great lesson awaits from the great teacher, the significance of that day should never be ignored. Normally, people just look at the birth and divisional charts as the primary blueprint to determine one's fate, but this approach is incomplete. Because the basics are either ignored or overlooked. Most predictive fiascos are generally the most basic and elementary mistakes. Date of Birth has several hidden factors which could prove to be beneficial or even harm us in the long run if unchecked.

Apart from nakshatra at birth our panchang (almanac) holds several other important factors, these are - Yoga, Thiti, Vaar, karana and Paksha. Before going further we must first validate the auspiciousness of your date of birth as it shows strength of the day, this can be calculated in the just same way you calculate Muhurtha.

Common Method involves taking four basic elements related to your birthday.

-Paksha or Lunar Day- waning moon is known as Krishna Paksha and Waxing Moon is called Shukla Paksha. For example, 6th day from new moon (Amavasya) is called as "Shukla Shasti" (number 6) and the 6th day from the Full Moon (Poornima) is called "Krishna Shasti" (number 21).

-Next is the weekday, ex: Sunday is 1.

-Number of the Birth Nakshatra, ex: Punarvasu is 7.

-Number of the Ascendant (lagna)- ex:Saggitarius is 9

Now you have to add these 4 numbers and divide it by 9. If the reminder is anything but 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 then the day is considered auspicious.

Let's take a date for example: 13-10-1925 @ 9 AM

Paksha- Krishna Ekadashi, 26
Weekday- Tuesday,3
Birth Nakshatra - Magha, 10
Ascendant- Libra, 7

26+3+10+7= 46/9; Reminder is 1, the day is not so strong.

This method can also be used to calculate auspicious muhurtas- but you must keep in mind-this approach only gives you a general picture of the day since we are using four simple factors. There are other factors such as Yoga and Karana, which are more important. To get an even more in depth picture we must also calculate the strength of Sun, Moon and Jupiter of that day, however I will not go into that.

We'll now take up yogas. What is a yoga in panchang? When Sun and Moon totals 13'2°per day it forms a yoga which changes the auspiciousness of that day, these are called 'nitya yogas' (daily), there are 27 nitya yogas some of which are quite powerful and can have profound impact on the birth chart. This is important because on certain days at certain times the position of sun and moon has the power to cancel out malefic effects of your chart regardless of their placement. But unfortunately they may also cancel out or reduce benefic results of your horoscope - it depends on the type of yoga.Since these yogas change daily they can also be used to check the auspiciousness of any day. So how is this calculated?

Here is the formula

Longitude of Moon + Longitude of Sun + Moon Zodiac -1 * 1800 + Sun Zodiac -1 *1800/ 800 + 1- if the result is more than 27 then you have to subtract 27 from it.

Short form: [(M+S) + (MZ-1)*1800 + (SZ-1)*1800]/800 +1

On 10 July 2012 @ 12 PM Sun will be at 24'14° in Punarvasu (gemini) and Moon at 15'22° in Uttarabhadrapada (pisces) in Bangalore as per KP Krishnamurthi Ayanamsa.

Longitudes:
Sun, 24'14°: 24*60+14 = 1454
Moon, 15'22°:15*60+22 = 922

M+S = 2376

Zodiac:
Moon in Pisces: 12-1*1800=19800
Sun in Gemini: 3-1 *1800=3600

So, MZ-1*1800+SZ-1*1800 = 19800+3600

Answer is: [1454+922+19800+3600]/800 + 1 = 32.22 + 1. And because 33.22 is greater than 27, you have to subtract 27 from it, so the final answer 6.22. So the 6th yoga in panchang is Atiganda Yoga which is inauspicious.

Sir, my sun is in 8 56" and moon is in 13 23"

longitude of moon +longitude of sun+moon zodiac-1*1800+sun zodiac-1*1800/800+1

So for me

L O M is 13*60+23= 803
L O S is 8* 60+56= 536

[803+536+(4-1)*1800 + (1-1)*1800]/800+1 => 1339+5400+0/800+1

=> 8.42+1 => 9.42

so i should consider 9th yoga That is Shoola yoga :cry: Is my calculation right sir?
