Isn't Mercury and Rahu the singificators of share trading then? I just can't remember where I read about them, but I have always been confident that they signify share trading. I also knew all these days that the 2nd house signifies trading, but you are saying that it's the 3rd house.
It's true that I have started doing share trading in Jupiter sub-period, which is the 6th lord as well, but I started doing it only after the Rahu sub-sub-period started. I have never been interested in share trading, and though my father had asked me to go for it many times in this Jupiter sub-period, I never showed any interest, until after the Rahu sub-sub period started, which I thought was surely due to Rahu's influence and also due to it's being in the 10th house of career.

I have 5th lord Ve in 8th with exalted 6th lord Ma aspecting 11th its own house. 2nd lord is debilitated with neechabhanga in 6th. Ju is in Moolatrk aspecting 2nd & 11th.
I started with shares in Ve-Ma dasha for the first time. Did it in a big way in Ve-Ju period.
Despite the interesting connections, I have actually lost money!

Thanks for politely putting across the hard truth that "plnetary connections may give results, butnot necessarily the ones that we desire" They certainly have more free will than us!
In my chart 3rd house connections are also strong including placement in nakshatras. 3rd lord in 9th and 5th lord is placed in 3rd lord's nakshatra conjunct with 11th lord who is also in the same nakshatra. But it appears thay have their own agenda.

1. How do we differentiate a compulsive tendency to trade in shares as against a judicious one. i.e, does an afflicted 5th house or its lord indicate the first. In my case 5th lord is in 8th but is also the 12th lord. Ve is supposed to be well placed in 8th. Can I say my 5th lord is afflicted because it is in 8th house or do I conclude that speculation gives me hidden gains? Conjunction with Ma makes it tricky since Ma is exalted and they are all in 8th

I agree with you that if Rahu had to get me into shares, it would have done it earlier as you have said, in the sub-period of Rahu. I also completely agree with you that the major period and the sub-period will have more impact on a person's life than sub-sub period. It can also be the effect of dasha chiddra--I have already started the sub-period of Saturn.

I know very little in astrology, and I am learning a lot everyday from this website, from the members here, and especially from you and Vaughnji, so there is no question of my, ever, doubting the correctness of what you say.

I didn't get into share trading to make money; I know there are more chances of losing than gaining, so I am trading with very less money. Actually, honestly speaking, I don't like share trading at all and so had not done it all these days, but then, I was getting stuck up in life, big time, and thought it necessary to bring some changes in it as a result of which I started doing share trading. I plan to leave it once something else comes up, though I am not sure when that will happen as the 5th house shows speculation, and the sub-period that I have just started is of Saturn, which is the 5th lord of speculation. You know, this is why I believe so much in destiny; it just forces you to do things you would not like to do: it forced me to get into share trading, though I had promised myself that I would never go for it.

I feel People who depend on God and not on their own actions are of two types; the first are the saints who have abdicated/abdicating. They are unconcerned about our perception of them. Some of them believe in their Guru and get help from them.
The second type are those who have lost faith on their ability not sure what to focus on and afraid of facing unexpected results (once bitten twice shy!). They need subtle (so as not hurt their ego) encouragement by people around them to pursue the path of karma.

I feel like it's me sharing my experiences and my feelings because I developed this kind of attitude in my Venus-Rahu period, thought my fight has never been with God but with destiny. God helps everyone, even when they don't pray to Him. The point is what is your definition of "help". Coming to the birth chart once again, I agree with you that the luminaries are severely afflicted, but I feel it's not the only reason your father didn't achieve the success that the birth chart was promising. I feel the planetary periods that he got was too a large extent responsible for that. He got the periods of Moon, Mars and Rahu during his work life, and all of them are placed in the 8th house of the birth chart, except Mars, which is the 8th lord again (placed in the 12th house). So, the planetary periods were not helping in anyway in bringing out the best of the chart as a result of which, he didn't get success to the level the birth chart was promising. Rahu gave him good success because it is in the ascendant of the D-10 chart with yogakarak Saturn, but it didn't give him that which the birth chart was promising because it is in the 8th house in the D-1 chart. About the health problems, I am not sure why it happened in Rahu-Venus period (1998) when it was more indicated in the sub-periods of Sun, Moon and Mars in the Rahu major period. Another thing I would like to ask you is, has his time improved after the Jupiter period started, though not sure about it as Jupiter being the maraka (7th lord) for the ascendant can give health problems as well.
