Can you please explain in which way, for Libra Lagna people, the benefic qualities of Rahu can manifest themselves? How do Rahu and Ketu actually behave if they are friendly in those signs? And can you also please explain how the transit and conjunction of Rahu and Saturn through Libra will be for Libra Lagna people who also have Rahu natally placed in Libra Lagna in their birth chart? Well, for me only arguments, arguments and arguments - without any encouragement from me.

By now I have argued with the whole world and September has still a long way to go before it ends. It looks like my combust Saturn is taking time to give effect in Libra, so Mars is having his full swing in my chart, without any retaliation from exalted Saturn.

We'll hear people's reports on this when Rahu-Saturn join in Libra this December onwards.

Only, Rahu will come out of Sandhi (transition zone) on 27th of Jan and will give benefic effect only after that. Till then, Rahu in Sandhi will be problematic.

I think I've seen your chart, but have forgotten it. If you have Libra Lagna, it would be good to hear from you how this period goes for you.

In short, Rahu will give strategic powers and an insight into how systems, mechanisms and people's minds are functioning, so that natives can devise benefic strategies to derive the exaltation effects from Saturn in Libra. Ketu in Aries in 7th will give benefic partnerships - in profession and in personal arena. Natives may be able to solve their problems in unusual and innovative manner and may also have unusual, unconventional partners in personal and professional lives, with whom they will vibe well.

But read above the problematic phases of exalted Saturn we have discussed and also add the December end-26th of January phase, when Rahu in Sandhi will create trouble.

Thank you very much for replying. I'm Libra Lagna and Leo Rashi, and am currently going through a bad dasha. It's a very emotionally taxing period, not really noticing any benefic results from Saturn. Perhaps because Sa is ill placed in natal chart. I don't quite get in what sense your father made his 2nd comment about Mars. I am emphasising upon Mars because Mars rules your 10th house, Rahu is placed there and Mars moves there on 1st of Oct.

I'd be happy to see Rahu moving into Libra as soon as possible, as it is good for me too. But Jagannath Hora and another software that I have, both show Rahu moving there in the end of December and coming out of Sandhi (i.e., crossing the 29th degree threshold) on 27th of Jan.

you can check the "Ephemeris" section in top menu of this website, where it shows Rahu moving into Libra in January.

Where has your father got this information? Has he seen the Bengali Panchang? Ask him about it.

Also, tell him he can check Rahu's position in Bengali Panchang or in any other Panchang he may have access to. You can also get it on the website I listed above for calculating Ashtami fast dates. It's an online Panchang. See that link and show it to your father for calculating Rahu's movement.

If Rahu moves into Libra in Oct, that will be good. But he has to see the date when Rahu crosses 29th degree. that's when Rahu will become benefic. In fact Rahu in Sandhi is more troublesome than usual, so before Rahu reaches 29th degree in LIbra, it may cause problems. I'm dreading that period i.e., 3 weeks of Jan. that's when I'm gong to get some of the results of my efforts for future.

Just one empathetic and soothing line, and I melt like wax. Some people like it about me and some try to take advantage of this handicap.

I read your comment in this thread and asked my father. You're right - he regularly sees the Bengali Panchang. He said that even though he may not be accurate with the dates, there are couple of observations:
1) He has seen in these Bengali panchangs (ponjika in Bengali) over the years that the dates are usually set later.
2) Also, since he neither has software nor time, he can't back-calculate when my Rahu came in the 10th house. He says with your experience, you can get an idea how long Rahu usually stays in the 10th house, take some kind of a mean/average (please don't ask me about mathematics!)..he says it's usually around 1 year and some months or weeks.
3) He just read your comments about the 29 degrees (he didn't know much about that but) acknowledged that. Also he was not much concerned about the 3 weeks of sandhi as much.
3)Also, he said, (this is last evening,) that - especially in my bad planetary state, only planets that matter are the major ones like Jup, Saturn, ( in a way Rahu too), not as much as the smaller ones like Venus, mars or moon, mercury, etc. If the major planets are not well placed at the particular moment, there's little the minor planets can do to salvage.

By the way, he was very impressed with your efforts especially that you mentioned the softwares and resources, knowledge and experiences you are using/referred - good, solid work, he had to say!
He says the right way of astrology is not only to use your own knowledge but also take in/built the experiences/observations of the respondents (people) around you with similar situations and take a representative sample. Well, I am not surprised, he was a highly regarded statistician in his career.

Yes, with Jupiter in Lagna, you have to be like that, even if Jupiter is not strong there.

A planet in Sandhi loses much of its power and Rahu in Sandhi becomes more malefic than usual. That's why I'm dreading the time when Rahu will go in Sandhi.

I had been seeing only software data so far. After I read the comment from your father, I decided to calculate the movement of Rahu-Ketu manually.

Rahu-Ketu moved into Scorpio-Taurus in early May last year - around 4th or 5th of May. They stay in one sign for about 18 months.

You can do this simple maths -

18 months for crossing 30 degrees of one zodiac sign (zodiac being a circle, is of 360 degrees, divided by 12 signs = 30 degrees for each sign), so how many days for crossing 5.8 degrees where Rahu-Ketu are placed now? (Degrees will vary from place to place slightly, so I have taken New Delhi as the place, but this shouldn't make a difference of more than 1-2 days)

Add these number of days to 17th of Sept i.e., today's date.

To this add - how many days for crossing 1 degree of Sandhi?

Calculate and tell me what result you get.

Say thanks to your father from my side and show him all this calculation.

He can also check the Rahu-Ketu's today's degree in Bengali Panchang and tell us if it's different from 5.8.

You can just copy the calculation and give it to him on paper if he doesn't like to sit before a computer for long.

It's simple maths -

Dear Saindhavi ji, just showed your post to my dad. According to him (his mathematics and calculations), Rahu is moving precisely on 10th October according to his Bengali calculations and on 16th of October (both Maharashtrain/South Indian calendar). He also says for some calendar it can also move MAXIMUM on 3rd of November.

P.S. he hasn't given importance to the degrees, axis and likes..as before.

3rd of Nov will come if you add 18 months to 4th of May 2011 when Rahu-Ketu axis moved last time.

But if you calculate with today's degree of Rahu-Ketu at 5.8, you get a date sometime in late December - using the formula I gave you above.

The snag is that if we do this, the total time taken exceeds 18 months, which it shouldn't - because this axis takes 18 months in a sign.

this is what I wanted to know - what date does he get using the calculation method given above and what degree of Rahu-Ketu for today is mentioned in the Panchangs he is reading?

Logically, yes, it should move on 3rd of Nov - that's when it completes 18 months in a sign, but what about the discrepancy when we calculate from today's degree?

You simply cannot calculate the position of planets in astrology without taking into account degrees, as their position is calculated in degrees only. If he has not considered degrees, then he may have just looked at the Panchang and given the reading, without actually calculating himself.

Did he calculate or did he just look at the Panchang and say?

Saindhaviji, what I understood from him is that he accepts and admires that you may be accurate with all your degree/axis calculations. He has his own set of statistical calculations and he has his own set of both Marathi and Bong friends with whom he discusses his concerns about his only son and other things. I don't know what what more to ask him! All I can say is that he is a genius in mathematics even though I have found him a harsh task master when ever he taught me maths. That's one of the reasons why I preferred him teaching me history rather than mathematics in my academic years!

Saindhaviji: A quick update: My father over dinner says usually Rahu-Ketu don't exceed but usually are few days lesser than the 18th months period by few days or weeks. He says with you are calculating this with software which may not always hold ground, especially with rahu-ketu, unlike other planets..hence exception and experience.

I calculated using the formula above and I got a date in late December - just like the softwares are giving.

Now, it is possible that manual panchangs are giving an earlier date, while softwares have mistakenly entered wrong degrees for this axis and hence, we are getting extra 2 months. This is why I wanted to know the current degrees in Panchangs, to compare with software degrees.

But understand this - you can't have your own set of statistics for calculating planetary movements, as they move according to some fixed astronomical principles and their position is always calculated in degrees only.

So, if you are not considering degrees, you can't calculate their position. But yes, you can look at a Panchang and give the reading without actually calculating.

Moreover, one doesn't have to be an expert mathematician to calculate this movement. It's simple elementary school maths -

if a body takes 18 months to cover 30 degrees, how many days will it take to cover 5.8 degrees?

This is the kind of question we used to solve when we were 7 years old.

Your father may not be interested in all this calculation and I am thankful to him for telling us the different dates given in different Panchangs. Please do thank him from my side.

But I am surprised that you are not able to comprehend this simple, elementary school maths!

Are you sure you wrote the GRE or GMAT to study in the US and you really did well on the quantitative section? you say you are highly qualified. I do hope you have not studied Engineering or MBA.

PS - I am not calculating with software, I too am calculating on paper. I am just using degrees from software because I don't have a Panchang before me. and no, all planets have a fixed period of movement - taking more or less than the fixed period is against the principles of astronomy.
