Dear Esteemed members,
I have been going through various forums trying to find the factors to be considered for matching of two horoscopes. Everywhere, I see only the Guna Matching and they don't talk of regarding houses/planets in both the charts. It would be really helpful if the experts in this forum could provide their inputs on this.

For e.g., I have no planets in my 7th & 8th house. On seeing this every astrologer would say that the bride's horoscope too should have 7th & 8th house empty . I am confused why the malefic aspects are not considered on the 7th & 8th are not considered.

I have searched this forum too but the information is scattered and there are no threads that discuss about these factors in detailed and clear manner.

I request all the esteemed members here to provide their views here.

Please prspum, astroboy, neeraj, sonu, sinecurve & other esteemed astrologers, your inputs are really appreciated.

Thanks

Dear friend,

I was having the same problem and my requests to senior members did not fetch any results. I sought some outside help and share the same with you and others.

Section ---I
I give below an excerpt from Late Sri.B.V.Raman, on match-making:---Book ---Muhurtha

Para-1
When Venus, Mars and Jupiter in one horoscope are situated in the other horoscope in a trine or in an angle of 3 and 11 positions, that is, if in the husband's horoscope, Venus is in Taurus and in the wife's horoscope, in Cancer or Virgo or Scorpio, it is a favourable position.
{Further clarification from an expert:
Supposing Venus is in Taurus (we do not know the Lagna at present), In the other horoscope if it is in Cancer it becomes the 3rd from the 1st chart, if it is in Virgo it becomes the 5th from the 1st one. Scorpio is not to be included as it happens to be the 7th. (I do not find this also in the book of B.V.Raman- Mine is a 1982 edition. In case you have a later edition, it might have been added subsequently. But as per his saying including Scorpio is not correct as it will be the 7th from Taurus. Since the kona as well as 3 and 11 positions have been stated simply without any reference to Lagna, we should study the position of Venus in one chart to that in the other chart and it should be in 1, 5, 9 or 3 and 11 positions with the chart under reference.

The same treatment is to be given to Mars and Jupiter also.

Venus-Mars conjunction or opposition leads to physical attraction.Jupiter and to some extent Saturn's association with these two palnets will to some extent increase the compatibility. Just place all the planets of the girl's chart in that of the boy as well as vice versa. Study the relationship between the main planets, Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Sun and Saturn as also Lagna. I grade them as below:
5:9 as well as 3:11 position Excellent
4:10 position moderate and there will be hidden respect to each other
1:7 position - moderate but one tries to dominate the other
2:12 position - tolerable
6:8 position - disputes
In one sign up to 15 degree - treat it as 4:10
In one sign greater than 15 degree - treat it as 2:12

If you are considering Lagna - Physical fitness is the indicator; for Moon mental balancing, Sun - Spiritual and status are the indicators, Venus - sex-harmony, Mars - Energy, aggressiveness. Jupiter - Satwik attitude towards sex, Saturn - Laziness like that.}—Clarificatin ends.

Para-2
When the Sun and the Moon have similar harmonious positions, except 2 and 12 (dwirdwadasa), there is usually a strong attachment. Here again if the husband's Sun is in Cancer and the wife's in Virgo, the needed harmony exists.
When the Sun and the Moon are disposed as suggested above but Mars in one case is in a sign which happens to be the 12th from Venus in the other horoscope, attachment exists, but there cannot be normal happiness in their private lives.
If Venus in one horoscope is in a sign occupied by Saturn in the other a serious and industrious partner is indicated.
Mars in the 7th, unaspected by benefics, indicates-frequent quarrels leading to misunderstandings.
Saturn in the 8th, aspected by Mars (especially 4th or 8th house aspect), is not conducive to mutual understanding. Saturn in the 7th confers stability in the marriage but the, husband or wife manifests coldness and not warmth.
A strong malefic in the 4th affects married happiness unless neutralised by a benefic aspect.
If the Janma Rasi of the wife (or husband) happens to be the Lagna of the husband (or wife), or if the Lagna of the wife (or husband) (happens to be the 7th (in the Horoscope) from the position of the lord or the 7th (in the other) the married life will be stable and built on mutual understanding and affection.

Section II ----- Rahu and Ketu:

some guidelines from an expert astrologer on matching Rahu/Ketu horoscopes.

"As far as Rahu and Ketu are concerned, you will find conflicting references in many of the classics. I follow the rules given below:

1. Rahu and Ketu in the first place do not have their own house. They take the characteristics of the lord of the house wherein they are placed. If the lord of the house is a functional benefic/malefic they also behave accordingly.
2. The next agenda for them is the lord of the constellation in which they are placed (Rahu—Punarvasu—Jupiter/ Ketu—swathi—rahu etc.,) and depending upon the nature of the lord - functional nature only - bestow the results.
3. Rahu is a natural malefic and Ketu is not a malefic and also not a benefic but a neutral one.
4. For matching of purposes Ketu is not taken into consideration by me. Only Rahu is taken as he is a malefic.
5. Position of Rahu in each horoscope is to be ascertained separately for the boy and the girl. I do not go in for comparison of the mutual placements in both the horoscopes.
Placements in 12th house will have very little dosha and in Lagna, 2nd house and 4th house will have a little higher dosha followed by 7th house and 8th house.in increasing order. If we are to assign some marks, for 12th house placement give 1 mark, for Lagna, 2nd house and 4th house give 3 marks, for 7th house give 5 units and for 8th house give 6 units.
It is not sufficient to study the effect of Rahu alone or as some astrologers do give importance to Mars Dosha.
As far as functional malefics are concerned, If a planet owns the trik house (6,8 and 12th) or has Kendradipatya, marakathipatya or badhakatipatya dosha, they are malefics.

@Mani
Thanks for your initiative on this.

Ms.Gayatri devi has stressed on the following factors in her book "The art of matching charts".

Both the horoscope has to be checked for the following points (in order of preference)

1) Longevity
2) Mental & psychological health
3) Factors showing more than one marriage
4. Malefic content or Dosha.

But, I see various methods are followed for Match-making

Many posts in the forum are related to match making. So, it would help many members to at least have a basic understanding.

So, again, requesting esteemed astrologers to throw some light on this. Hope Astroboy Ji, prspsm Ji, Srikanth Ji & other members would help with their views.

Some questions
1. Should mars dosha be checked from Lagna, moon & venus?
2. How should be the lord relation ships between two horoscopes?
3. Other factors....

Thanks
