My friend (also!) has marriage trouble. He and his wife have too many arguments.
When/can he expect things to get better ? Is there any chance of seperation ?

The 7th house of marriage in the chart is fine, but Venus is deeply afflicted by Mars and Saturn, two malefics, and the 8th house of marital bond is also deeply afflicted by the same culprits, Saturn and Mars. Now, he is running the period of Saturn which is in the 8th house and in mutual aspect with Mars, with Venus, the planet of relationships getting connected to it. So it's not a good period from marriage perspective.

He is running the major period of Saturn of 19 years, and though the sub-period of Saturn he is running now will end, and a much better sub-period of Mercury will start in the later half of the next year, I am not sure whether it will help much. It may, it may not--difficult to say precisely.
About extra marital affair, well, I don't know how to see that in a chart, so can't confirm your suspicion about it.
