A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed.

As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation.
They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?"asked the customer.
"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist.
Tell me, if God exists,would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine loving a God who would allow all of these things."
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and un-kept.
The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?"asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber.And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."
"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me."
"Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world." ~

Hi,The story is good,but its just a story.Life is not as simple as straightforward as this story is.
I always have this question in my mind if god really exists.I have known a girl(my ex maids daughter),who was physically disabled,but had a blind faith in god.She was raped by her own cousin.The god didnt even cared to save the poor girl. The big politician is eating all our hard earned money and middle class and poor people have to struggle to make their living.This do makes me think why do people pray to god,when everything is so pre destined.
I am definitely not a pessimistic person.I believe its our past life karma's that guides and defines our present,so i dont blame god for all the wrong but at the same time dont expect him to make thing better for anyone.
With this post, i dont intend to hurt anybody's feelings or argue on god's existence,i just want to put across my side of the story.

i agree with Virgo78. i have read the story above at other webpages, and indeed its a nice one to read, but after all, its just an imaginative story, often quoted to atheists by theists. the result we get -- more clashings between two egos.
with whatever is happening in the world, there's hardly a day when my blood doesn't boil in acute rage, and stupidly, i sometimes even vent my ire on that higher being who supposedly rules the manifested world as we know it. but then sanity prevails, and i recall reading a phrase in article, wherein the author wrote -- 'you may feel pity or sympathise for a victim of injustice you might encounter or come to know about, but don't pray that everything should become fine for her/him instantly, and never accuse god of inflicting such injustice on such a person. for what we know, s/he is reaping the doings of her/his past karma, and instead, you should pray that s/he is done with runabandhana of her/his and get it over with.'
i don't know how much is it justified to talk like that, but we can't disagree that its the past karmas that haunt a victim of present, how much ever we may feel bad. the famous hermit & warrior miyamoto musashi, in his work 'the book of five rings', writes that 'respect all deities/god, but don't be dependent on them'.
i feel so pity at myself to be able to do nothing about this and just be a puppet at the hands of the laws of existence. and hence deep within i know i have to somehow break the shackles. i sincerely don't want to take birth on earth again if possible through self-effort, even in the face of innumerable temptations that might come in my way.
and please, don't circulate that story to militant atheists. that only irks them more, and you know what ensues when simians are on the rampage.
