Jaimini maharshi expounds the secrets of Jyotish through Aphorisms called SUTRA but not Sloka or stanzas. Basic difference between a stanza and a sutra is the former is a Chandobaddha (bounded by chandas - prosody or metrical science) where as the later is nyayabaddha (bounded by nyaya - maxim or any special defined rule). Sutra is very condensed and coded while stanza is elobarative and easily understood. Jaimini invokes KATAPAYA pnuemonic notation in framing his sutras. Therefore to know arudha or for that matter any concept of Jaimini school it is very important for one to have a thorough knowledge of

- 1)KATAPYA alpha-numeric notation, its rules and properties
2)Syntax or rules regarding a "SUTRA" (i.e., the sequence of occurence of an aphorism by applying NYAYA or maxims)
