Dear Praveens
Venus in the 12th gives easy merits, bed pleasures, prosperity, ability and means to enjoy the pleasures of this mundane world. The requirement is that Venus must not be in the sign of Saturn ie. Capricorn and Aquarius. Venus in Saturn sign and Saturn being the karaka of this house and an austerity planet, would clip Venus aspiration towards materiality. But if Venus is given full reign, the idea is that Venus is given full domain of this material world to satisfy himslef, so that there is no insatiability remaining in the person. The person is thus prepared for his first step towards Moksha.
Venus in 12th has somewhat the characteristic of Venus in Pisces. So the person tends to give unconditional love and usually not fully requited. Hence it can lead to sorrow. The splendour of Venus is reduced to loving others secretly ie. behind the scenes. This is for a male nativity. For a female nativity, Venus in 12th leads to unchastity which is easy to understand based on what I have described earlier.
I have read an article where if Venus in the 12th but also 12th to Rahu (meaning Rahu is in the Ascendant) during the periods of Venus-Rahu or Rahu-Venus can lead to imprisonment being more certain. The example in that article was for a lady who evaded income tax returns. (12th to Rahu by itself signifies imprisonment).
Invariably Venus in 12th afflicted by Rahu (conjuncting or Rahu in the 1st) also affects the eyes.
Venus in 12th also fortifies the Ascendant ie. the Ascendant is made stronger - less disease, avoid accidents, good personality (joyous, good company), the person dresses well (like Ann in this forum, she shop for dresses and has Venus in the 12th), the person is also a social butterfly because of such a vivacious personality etc.
Hope the above helps.

Hi
Yes, the imprisonment part, is supported by BPHS. Here are the relevant verses :
Chapter 52 (Dasha of Venus and Antardasha of various planets)
(The verses below is for the antardasha of Rahu)
27-29. Imprisonment, loss of position, danger from thieves and snakes, inflection of wounds, happiness to wife and children, destruction of cattle, house and agricultural fields, diseases, consumption (Gulma - enlargement of the skin), dysentery etc. will be the results, if Rahu is weak, or is in the 8th, or in the 12th from the Lord of the Dasha.
Chapte 55 (Dasha of rahu and Antardasha of various planets)
(The verses below is for the antardahsa of Venus)
56-59. Effects, like danger from the wrath of Brahmins, snakes and the king, possibility of affliction with diseases, like stoppage of urine, diabetes, pollution of blood, anaemia, availability of only coarse food, nervous disorder, imprisonment, loss of wealth, as a result of penalties, or fines, imposed by government, will be derived, if Śukr is associated with malefics in the 6th, 8th, or 12th from the Lord of the Dasha.

Yes, I can totally relate with your post on Venus in 12th. Especially, unconditional but unrequited love, immense grief and trauma, love for solitude. In fact, the way you have put it the best, the splendour of Venus is reduced to loving others secretly i.e. behind the scenes, says it all.
I have two charts (Lagna: Aquarius) with Venus (yogakaraka) in 12th but in Capricorn.
In the male native, Venus is conjoined Mercury and receives aspect from LL & 12L Saturn in 6th - Marriage was relatively late, at almost 35 (in Rahu MD- Venus AD) AFTER a long term relationship didn't culminate into marriage.
In the female native, Venus receives aspect from an exalted Jupiter in the 6th (Perhaps, a reason why unchastity isn't the case here?) - Single again after a long term relationship didn't culminate into marriage.
As far as material comforts are concerned, they manage to get the best of what they want, but these things, they perhaps know do not really matter. I think, it's Saturn's lordship of the 12th house that makes the difference.

Karmatrix

Dear Hock Leong,
Also, if I am not mistakened, doesn't Venus in 12th also signify, longing for a partner who's in foreign land, separation / living away from your partner, or the native moving to a foreign country?
This worked in the two charts I have discussed in my previous post.

Karmatrix

Yes, it does. When I mentioned unrequited love it can be for various reasons and not just the other partner not responding fully in kind.
As 12th signifies living away in foreign land and 1st of Venus signifies the partner, it menas the partner lives away from the person and there is thus a gulf between them.
Venus also signifies the Jataka's longing, so the individual is at the same time longing for her potential (fulfill or unfulfilled) partner. Fulfillment is more likely if Moon is together with Venus in the 12th.

Yes, two things here. As Subramaniamji said, one is because of Saturn's Lordship of 12th house. This clips the Venus part of unchastity here. Secondly, I think is because of the native's planets in lagna plus Moon being 6th lord. Moon is one of the reasons why the native has not got opportunities. Moon, Venus at least should be in good positions for fulfillment as good house lords is my study revelation. One of the other things is being Karma lord and lagna lord Saturn being retro. This can also deny chances. One of the other things can be because Mercury is also the 8th lord of this native who is also the 5th lord which can also prevent.
If the shaktis of Venus, Moon and Mars gets clipped, it might lead to spiritual tendencies, may grow to higher level or may remain at lower level as well, depends on various factors.
Venus, Moon and Mars should be of good house lords and in good favorable position for all Mundane affairs of this world like chastity, wealth, name, fame, vehicles, property, good house, relations, wife, husband, awards, worldly fames and things like that to have experience in person of all the same above. This is from my personal experience and study as well.
Though, native might be having desires of the same in her mind secretly, though wont express the same. The native might be having from time to time internal fights within her regarding the same to go for it or not. There might always be fights. Since, Jupiter is exalted and it is in high frame position, it wont allow adharma to happen and the native might be having this discrimination power. On the other hand, as usual, since the native is a normal human being, to go for it might be tempting.
Though still my point is that, since venus is in 12th alone should have given the native bed pleasures at some point of time. The planets always shows both sides of the same coin.
I would like to post a horoscope as to how Moon, Venus and Mars can play a significant role in one's Mundane or this worldly life. I am posting horo details of a person.
D.O.B. is Jan 7, 1979. Place of Birth Delhi. T.O.B. is 12:00
Here even though lagna lord and 10th lord Jupiter is in 5th house exalted retro, this person is having extreme name, fame and extreme lustly person who had sex with many due to the Shaktis being all 3 favorable. Too much of punya is the cause of the above horo is my finding.
Though Jupiter as lagna lord exalted in 5th house with Kethu being in 12th should have given the native extreme good chance of Spiritual platform, but what is the Jupiter here giving, only mundane things.
