Hi,

This may be a silly question, but I could not find the answer anywhere. Sorry if it sounds stupid. But how do you look at the strength of Lagna. For any yog to manifest Lagna has to be strong, does that mean the astakvarga of the lagna rashi or the strength of lagna lord?

Once again sorry for this stupid question, thanks a lot,

there are a no of factors to look at like -SAV of Asc, Placement of Asc Lord...Asc and Asc lord shud be free from malefic aspects , lagna shud preferably have a natural benefic

I was looking specifically at the case below.

Virgo lagna, Mercury in 7th in Pisces, conjunct with Venus. Mercury being vargottam in Pisces. No malefic influence on Mercury and SAV of Lagna 24. I have been told that the lagna is very weak.

Thank you

Hi,

I believe in pisces, mercury, the lagna lord is debilitated. However, venus is exalted.

Where is the lord of the house, jupiter at?

@ Shrikant ji: Thank you for your clarifications, and yes Mercury is her Atmakaraka

@ sunjit 86: Jupiter is debilated in 5th house -Makara, but exalted in Navamsha in Karka.

Shrikanth sir, how did you come to know that mercury is the AK?

Virgo Asc - Merc debilitated and Venus exalted in the 7th Pisces is actually a Dharma karmadhipathi Raja yoga.
Two strong benefics planets (one of them is the lagna lord) influencing the lagna strengthens the lagna immensely.

Due to lack of visibility - We wont be able to comment on the rest of planets.

Mercury debilitated and in vargottama - I'm assuming that Mercury is also the Atmakaraka in this case.
Periods of Mercury will be very painful and can cause severe downfalls.

Furthermore - when we try to ascertain the "strength" of a planet or house etc., - We need to understand there is nothing called a absolute strength.
Strengths are associated with a particular trait/characteristics.

For example - you cannot compare two Athletes - who are good at different sports/discipline.
So we always establish a discipline/sport and then have athletes compete and we determine their ranking.
This ranking has absolute no bearing outside of the discipline.
Just because an athlete got the gold medal in boxing, he can't be considered strong in 100m sprint.

Similarly In astrology we have different types of strengths - Shadbala, Vimshopakabala or Ashtakavarga etc.,
Each has an area of influence. Shadbala indicates when two or more planets are in a yoga - which one is dominant.
Ashtakavarga highlights the support a planet (in a house) receives from placement of other planets in other houses.
We cannot use them interchangeably as well.
