Hi Learned Members

I came across a verse in Saravli which is very interesting :

The effects relating to the 11th House, as mentioned above will be experienced right from birth, according to Yavanas. But according Lokaksha (a preceptor by that name), kings and heads of zones stand to enjoy abundant gains (as against a common man).

Which is the correct view/

I would say both views are correct, and if one happens to be a King or Head of Zone like a manager in an office in contemporary times, then one stands to gain BOTH ways. Why?

11th house is a secondary ascendant. It is 11th to Lagna so it builds up the Lagna from birth until old age. We gather experience in fact from the 11th house, our groups we joined, the social circles we move in, how to sniff out gains in the streets etc. That is how to be worldly wise, it contributes much to the character of our Ascendant as life progresses. So the gains start from birth right up till we go to our deathbed.

On the other hand 11th house is the 2nd to the 10th house of profession. The success from the 10th house via the 1st, 6th, 8th, 10th route means long hard work and efforts put in. 11th house is also the income from our main profession being the 2nd to the 10th. So we get even more gains if we have a steady and professional job.

I'm not so sure about that. All my benefics are in my 11th house- Including Jupiter which is exalted. And except for the time when Jupiter transited my lagna & 2nd house, there have been NO gains in my life. Poor support from family growing up; diagnosed with a rare cancer at the age of 17 and then it reacurred again at age 20. Not a good love life, Not good finances, insincere friends who do not value the friendship and only stay by my side when they have something to gain.... times of complete and utter poverty. So I have yet to see any gains from the so called house of gains.

Mind you my 11th house lord is debilitated so this may have something to do with it. If so then then house of gains can just as easily become the house of loss.

Yes, the Moon in its fall ruling the 11th could be the reason.

But more importantly, Mercury is in its enemy sign of the Moon and it rules both the 1st and 10th houses of a Virgo Ascendant. But Moon's weakness is Neecha Bhanga by being angular to exalted Jupiter and exalted Jupiter is associated with Lagna Lord Mercury. So Moon becomes very strong. Its strength actually causes Mercury to suffer more in its enemy sign. The 1st and 10th houses Mercury rules suffer setbacks as a result.

Mercury strong in 11th gives auspiciousness all round. The reverse is the case when Mercury is weak in the 11th and in your chart, it rules two important houses of the 1st and the 10th.

Venus in Cancer also in its enemy sign and unless Moon casts an aspect on Venus, which is not the case here, it is also a bad placement and not a Raja Yoga. Venus rules 2nd and the 9th. These are houses that give material progress and good social standing in life.

Because of Mercury and Venus weakenesses, Jupiter ruling two Kendras gives inauspicious effects notwithstanding it is associated with two Trine Lords of Mercury and Venus and one Angular Lord of Mercury.

Thank you for that input. I didn't expect an analysis, but it was very helpful. Having Jupiter,Venus, Mercury & Sun all in the 11th house I was told by an astrologer (a friend of the family) that I would get everything I want in life. This raised my hopes as a child since I was born female to a father who did not want a girl and had a mother who would not protect me against his verbal assaults. She would always choose to please her husband over defending her children (as he would call me a worthless girl growing up while he gave my brother much love and affection as well as payed for his schooling.. etc etc. but my brother is a good person so even though I was angry for the way I was treated I was also happy that he was treated well) I left the house after my first time with Cancer at 17 and I thought that now that I was away from the bad influence of my parents my 11th house would finally start to give benefits. I was (and am) much happier away from them... but I am also without any family to help me in times of stress or to share vacation time with. I thought that since I was not allowed to have friends while I was living with my parents that finally when I left I would be able to make friends... I finally did- but the friends that I would make would only want to be with me to get certain things. As soon as I needed them for anything they'd disappear. I was a very hard worker and employers tend to like my ambition, but in the end I still do not succeed and often end up losing the job due to unforseen circumstances. Romantically I do not fall in love easily- but the only 2 people I've ever had feelings for did not even feel anything for me. I did very well in business for a few years and then it all went away and I once again found myself in poverty. Now at age 31 I am finally realizing that the 11th house legacy I was told I'd have is simply not meant to be. The only refuge I had was hope and my fantasy life and perhaps it is time I simply stop trying to change the unevitable. If you are doing 11th house research you can always save my chart for your studies. I was born August 4th 1979 at 10:45AM, Brooklyn NY. (in actuality I was born sometime between 10:30 & 11:am, but the lagna does not change either way). I often look for others who have stelliums in the 11th house with a debilitated ruler to see if I can compare my life with theirs, but I have yet to find any.

Dear Khoo very interestiung thoughts again? What do you mean by 11th is the secondary ascendant?

11th is the Laabh Bhava and 2nd is the Dhan Bhaav.
11th is 2nd from the 10th ( Karam Bhava) and hence indicates the Dhan acquired directly from the Karma.
in assesing the wealth of an individual 11th is the most important house followed by 2nd and 5th.
11th is the house almost like the bottmo line of a balance sheet....where the net of all gains and looses is reflected.

Now look at the following individual...a self made multimillionare.
9.june.72; 11:55am; 80E55; 26N51

2nd Lord is the same as 11th Lord , Me and in it's own house !
Further Ju in the 5th in it's own house aspects the 11th and the 11th aspects the 5th.
Further the 9th and 10th Lords are sitting in the 11th....so his destiny and his work / profession all are contributing to his bottomline gains.

According to this gentleman....only when he started earning wealth.......that it started growing and multiplying.
So the 11th house siginifcations kick in generally when the professional career takes off.....and then keep acting all the life....getting more prominent during the dasas and antardasas

regards

Dear Delilah,
You have answered the question yourself....11th house Lord is debilitated.
Further you must also try to asses whihc houses the remining benefics sitting in your 11th Lord over ?
and what are the planets aspecting the 11th house...to get the complete picture of whether the 11th house will give gains.

Like any mathematical equation or a Ledger/ balance sheet.....if there is a negative sign in front of it....the overall results becomes negative.....and hence the Laabh Bhava can very well become -ve Laabh i.e Losses

regards

Dear Delilah,
There is hardly any sense in discussing the effect of some particular planetary position , without examining the birth chart and Navamsa chart at least ,because seldom a planet is Independence enough to give its results as d given in some book etc. A planet which may appear to be favorable at first sight ,might not be capable of giving the desired results ,because of its own weakness or because of some other adverse influence from other corner. Similarly the so called malefc planet , might prove a blessing for the native , if it , because of its placement ,strength or other influences it is subjected to. The strength can not be assessed from the birth chart alone ,it is to be weighed from subdivisions , etc as well . Besides that , some very favourable Yogas even may not prove helpful in the major or sub-periods of the planets placed in adverse houses with refenceto the planet involved in Yoga- formation.

Dear Delilah

Yes, you have to look at your chart in detail like the divisional charts, Avasthas etc.

I have not looked at your chart in detail but the Neecha Bhanga which I explain is not correct (the condition that is). I apologise (see below).

But Sun there may cause combustion and mutliple planets there can cause planetary war which may weaken the 11th house. Also depending on Mars placement with respect to Moon there might still be Neecha Bhanga in which case the attendant effects like Mercury, Venus strongly weakned etc. would then take place.

Also generally a planet in its enemy sign like Mercury and Venus in your case is generally weak and these two are trinal, lagna, 10th house and 2nd house lords with or without Moon's debilitation cancelled. If Moon is Neecha Bhanga because of Mars placement, then what I have described is correct. If not, then the ruler of the 11th house in its fall like Moon in Scorpio would be a major reason together with the other reasons mentioned above - placement in enemy sign, possibly also combustion and planetary war or even low Shadbalas.

Hi Shilpa

For the point that you mentioned with reference to me I am quite positive I am right.

Although 11th house is the 2nd to the 10th, it is also the 11th to the 1st. Classics do mention about taking the 11th house as an Ascendant.

11th house is not only the house of professional income. It is the house of ad-hoc gains. People with strong 11th house but weak 10th house can still obtain gains, like those doing free-lance, or go for situations vacant when the main worker is not there like on a standby basis.

Another thing is that 11th house denotes things we obtain with little effort like when we are young, our gains are mainly from our parents or guardians or elders - 11th house is the 3rd to the 9th (3rd denotes initiation of action in this case it is the help we get from our 9th house of elders or guardians).

So 1st is the 3rd to the 11th so our physical body or mental intelligence gradually grow.

So 11th house is the house of gains but short of speculation which comes under the 5th house.

What I have explained does not contradict the chart you gave about the self-made millionaire. In his case he take the route from 1st to 6th to 10th and the 11th effects kick in. What i have explained is 1st get from 11th which in turn get from 9th. Many paths to a house.

Getting to the 10th and then 11th kicking in is clear though.

Hi Shilpa

The 6th to a house runs down the resources to that house.

So 7th house which is 6th to the 2nd denotes eating whereas 2nd house denotes food.

Similarly 6th house is 6th to the 1st so it runs down the physical body through wear and tear. It can be diseases. It can be work. Or it can be work leading to diseases.

8th house is the 6th to the 3rd. It runs down our physical energy if the work requires intense effort which is under the 8th.

But in all cases above it is NECESSARY for the running down to occur. We work because we need to sruvive. Even disease alone is required because it comes with working. Or if one is born rich, we still have diseases in the long run. The 6th to a house ALWAYS HAPPENS just like the 6th to Venus (this thing about Venus is stated by Saptraishis Astrology).

So as the 6th house to Lagna gains momentum, in the long run, we accomplish our objectives in this world which is the 10th house and the next step would be to leave this world as denoted by the 12th house which is 3rd to the 10th. Even without work, the diseases would consume us (even old age is a kind of disease) and we fulfilled whatever we need to fulfill in the life span given to us. This group of people without work is also all set to leave this world and for these people, as they get older, they will get income from their children because they have not been working in their adult life.

So this is the route taken when we are adult to old age : 1st to 6th to 10th.

The other route is when we are born to adolescent to teenage before stepping into adulthood ie. 1st from 11th from 9th.

Hi Shilpa

Another thing I want to mention is that the 6th house to any house represents the latter house symbolically in a reduced intensity.

Thus

6th house represents a diseased body, a person with a less vibrant personality because of tireness, boredom etc.

7th house represents eating delicious food while 2nd house anything that we put into the mouth. That is why 2nd house is stronger as a killer house even though 7th house is also a killer. Eating is the cause of all major dysnfuctional orders in our bodily system.

8th house represents short efforts or short series of actions with less intensity than the 3rd house because the hard work in the 8th saps our strength.

Hey Delilah

I have exactly the same conjunction in my 11th House, Sun-Jupiter-Venus-Mercury, however mine are place in Scorpio with Mars and Ketu in 12th. I believe I am lucky in the friends area (It started after the awkward high school phase), but in terms of gains I cannot really tell you much. L11 being in 12th and L12th in 11th, the future will tell us.

However, I also know a boy (well I mean we corresponded through a forum) with the exact same conjunction in Leo. Sun is in own sign and all planets are in same Nakshatra. He is very pessimistic (as opposed to me), he does not have many friends either, but he is very ambitious. He is only 19 and going through Jupiter dasha (which is not good for him) but he has already planned his life in terms of what he wants to do and when (very determined, as opposed to me, I go wherever the wind takes me). I can clearly see that he is the type of person who will succeed financially in life.

I think the only thing in common that the three of us have is that we do not particularly like our older brother (him and I both only have a single older brother). Apart from that I guess we have a lot of differences.

Hi

On the lighter side, since 6th to Venus shows adultery, it shows that all of us in one way or another, have a desire to flirt with the opposite sex - or same sex as the case may be.

Similarly 6th to Jupiter which shows dissolving of opposition, shows that even our die hard enemies, given time our opposition and hatred to them somehow melts or becomes less in intensity - unless of course the ruler of that house goes into a house which has all the bad connotations like 12th of Rahu, 6th of Saturn etc. with no beneficial indications like 9th of Jupiter, 12th of Venus etc.

Dear Khoo,

Thanks for the articles that you are putting here which are educative.

Do you consider Badhak concept too? 11L is Badhak for Aries Asc. I have my 11L SA in his own sign AQ (MK). SA MD is starting in 16 months from now. It is not only Badhak, but also 6 to 6H. So, Badhak anyway will take place as either Badhak or 6 to 6H

Can we read it as gains associated with Bad Health? Right now, due to Dasa Chidra (Sandhi), I am going to lose my job in next two months as my job contract is not extended after March 31.

11.11.1964: 17.20Hrs, Guntur, Male.
God bless you.

Hi Delilah

As a matter of fact there is Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga in your case. It is not Jupiter (for Mars I have not looked at its position yet). It is actually VENUS. See the following quote from the classic :

If the lord of the sign occupied by the debilitated planet OR the lord of the
sign of its exaltation be in a square from the ascendant or the Moon (Phala
Deepika 7/29).

thus my initial explanation is correct. But the Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga comes from Venus being square to the Moon in its fall and not Jupiter. But Jupiter ruling two kendra houses which are not trinal still adds to its inauspicious effects of a terribly weakened Mercury and Venus.

I can see now why I've had such troubles. You say the moon has much influence in my chart then my upcoming moon period (about 2 yrs from now) will likely be very dramatic. With most of my planets under the moon's rule It seems as though virtually every aspect of my life will undergo extreme changes during the upcoming Moon Mahadasha- It may very well be the death of me. I will try to update you on how my moon period is going when it comes -if it doesn't kill me first. :)

What do you think about what Shilpa said above? He gave details of a chart of a self-made millionaire he knows. This is interesting to me. Does this correspond to what you were saying before about how the 11th denotes easy gains FROM profession? But then this would mean that the 10th feeds the 11th. How can this be if it is 2nd from the 10th? The 2nd house represents support does it not?
-The 2nd house (food, resources for living, parents who feed you) supports & feeds the 1rst house (physical body) for the physical body needs resources to survive.
-The 3rd being 2nd to the 2nd represents the energy level/courage/action which feeds the 2nd house (In order to get resources one must be willing to put forth some sort of action to obtain them)
- The 4th is 2nd to the 3rd (the needs of the home life & family spurs one to action) etc, etc...

But how is it that the 11th house supports or feeds the 10th house? The only thing I can think of is that Desires and wishes- which are ruled by the 11th house- feed the 10th because it is one's desires and wishes that make them work in a profession in the first place. One needs goals wishes & desires in order to be in any profession. Otherwise why work? Desires and wishes have one thing in common- They are UNFULFILLED. Once a desire or wish becomes fulfilled it ceases to be a wish or desire. Is it not then possible that the 11th house only states unfulfilled wishes in a person's life and that it's only it's ruler that determines wheter these will ever be fulfilled? What do you think?

Desires and wishes include income. As long as there is stable income from a profession, we will carry on with the profession. That is how the 11th house feeds the 10th house.

But the 11th house is also a killer of the 10th house. Sometimes with an eye to the big fat income we do not fulfill our professional responsibilities fully or properly.

And in the exteme, when the person has no profession, like getting gains from his parents even past the adult stage (depends on the configuration of the chart), it just the 11th house effects. The 10th house effects are zilch ie. zero.

By the way Delilah, your birth location is it Brooklyn, King's County or is it Brooklyn', Delaware County?

Both of them have different logntitudes and latitudes.

Kings County.

I'm glad you have this thread. When you have many planets lumped together in one house/sign it is difficult to differenciate which planets have which affect on certain aspects of your life. I've always found my 11th house hard to understand.

Hi Deliah

Yes, ss108 is correct. But I do differ with him on 1 point.

Combustion is important like I mentioned.
Gulika, yes, that is important too. May need to incorporate in my analysis of future charts next time more often - I just started using it.
Gadanta is bad and yes, unless Neecha Bhanga is strong, is of not much use. I did not look into the details of your chart.
Career we take 10th to Saturn actually - it works more effectively. It is mentioned in BPHS. But 10th to Moon is also mentioned in the classics as well, together with 10th to Sun and 10th to Ascendant. However, most astrologers consider 10th to Moon as the most important of the three aforesaid mentioned. In my opinion, 10th to Moon shows your taste for public life so it does have a say in one's career as well. If you do not like public life, there will not be much of a career. But 10th to Saturn has a final say since Saturn rules karma and deeds.
