hi Vaughn ji and friends
i am thinking of buying Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, there is a 40% discount on the book now. it's translated by Girish Chand Sharma. can anyone tell me whether this is the complete work by Parashara or is it a summary of the original work. just wanted to check out whether i am buying the right book or not.

Hi Basab and Anupam,
Yesterday I emailed K.N. Rao asking:

>Is the BPHS translation by Sitaram Jha the one that you recommend, or Girish Chand Sharma?<

I just got this reply from K.N. Rao about the BPHS translation:

Actually no translation is accurate because the right text without extrapolations is not available anywhere. Besides, the translators were poor predictors as a result of which they did not understand the real import in some passages. Yet, both are passable (Girish Chandra Sharma or Sitaram Jha). Ganesh Datta Pathak's in Hindi is better.
K.N.Rao.

Hello Vaughn ji,
thank you so much for taking all the trouble to ask K.N. Rao about it and informing us. i really appreciate this effort on your part. well, this makes things very clear. i wish i knew Hindi, then i would surely have gone for the translation by Ganesh Datta Pathak.
