Moon loves Mercury.
Mercury hates Moon.

How should this complex relationship be understood and interpreted?

If moon and Mercury are conjunct or in mutual aspect, what happens?

Going by the friendship rule between them, is it safe to say that moon feels better because of Mercury and Mercury feels upset because of moon?

What happens during their time periods? Will Mercury periods involve trouble for moon related matters as it hates moon? or should this be interpreted as success in moon related matters as moon loves Mercury? Similarly, how should moon periods be interpreted? As favourable for moon or not?

one can experiences different results of such combination and in their aspects like Moon-mercury in conjunction in their favourable signs / of their favourable aspects /and unfavourable results in unfavourable signs.so view their opposition-aspects -placements based on the above 3 categories.

I have a chart with similar conjunction in sixth house in Leo sign with Jupiter aspect on it from tenth house. House lord in fifth house in the sign of cancer creating a parivartan yoga. How does each planet affect each other and why(if possible then do explain)? Thank you in advance for sharing your valuable knowledge.

Among the numerous explanations on such relationship, two such may be as under:
1. A person high on emotions ( Moon) may not be able to apply his rational abilities/intellect/intelligence (Mercury) to achieve his goals. It affects decision making ability largely governed by Mercury's strength. On the other hand, a person with high intellect (Mercury, IQ) may use his emotional abilities (EQ) to easily achieve his objectives.
2. Mercury, as an illegitimate child from the Moon, hates him for his status whereas the Moon loves him being father. (You may refer to the story of Tara and the Moon)

Swarnim, how do we reconcile these 2 different roles of Moon - on one hand, mother, mind, emotions etc. On the other, as explained above, is the father of Mercury.... whats the reason for this? Have the shastras explained it? THank you.

Chandra-Budha:- favourable aspect gives Success, good literary work, happiness from relatives, unity of brain and common sense;Shrewd, careful; understanding, kind disposition. Mind is Sound, logical, judicious, honest, good for writing, lecturing,Communicating ideas and information; good with domestic Matters, land, house, furniture; architect, builder.Popularity; plain speech; healthy habits; clever, entertaining And helpful wife....

Such planets conjunction in favorable signs gives- Penetrating understanding; resourceful mind and
Imagination; sensitive, eccentric. (UF) Acute intellect, combative,Sharp tongue; creates misunderstanding and offence;Reformist tendencies. Bad for publications, strong Abilities; sympathetic; sensitive. Tightly strung, restless,. Excitable;Nervous debility. In unfavourable signs it gives suicidal tendencies and eccentric nature to natives.

Very interesting conversation!

What if Moon and Mercury are both Natural malefics in a chart and are in exact opposition in Kendra? Will there always be a battle between emotions and a calm disposition?

Also, how do we interpret a retrograde mercury in an unfavourable aspect with Moon?

So, moon loves mercury but mercury hates him. So can anyone can tell which of the following is considered more good -

1- Mercury in cancer rashi. (Will mercury do bad to house here?)
2- Moon in Gemini or Virgo rashi. (Will moon be not comfortable here then?)

@ShivT828: Second one is definitely better. (1. Yes, 2. No)

@S_C Sir: Kindly elaborate on the point.

I have a question - If moon is exalted and mercury is placed in cancer. So how much moon will be able to save its house and how much bad can mercury do in placement like this?

Very interesting article. I would like to add another dimension to the Moon-Mercury combinations.
How would a Moon-Mercury conjunction play out for a libra ascendant especially if the conjunction happens in a trine or quadrant ? Lets say in

1. 4H of Capricorn

2. 5H of Aquarius

3. 1H of Libra

Thanks

If you want to understand the relationship between moon mercury. It is like when you are with a person whom you consider your friend but the other person hates you for whatever reason.

So what happens in such situations, you will feel good and comfortable but the other person will feel irritated or agitated, just there for the sake of being present with no interest.

Such is the relationship between moon and mercury.
If moon is placed in the signs of mercury. Moon is in a comfortable place. So if there no influence from any other planet and afflictions, whatever the moon signifies will come easily without trouble. Moon periods would be fine too but sub periods of mercury may bring trouble.

On the other hand if mercury is placed in the sign of moon, mercury is not in a comfortable zone so any signification will come difficult. Periods of mercury will not be good but because moon welcomes mercury subperiods of moon will feel better.

Same applies to conjuctions and mutual aspects moon will be able to function well but mercury may bring troubles.
