Why Venus,Moon,Rahu are treated as female planets?

Hi,

I am not able to understand why the 3 planets Venus,Moon,Rahu are considered female planets?

As we know in Vedic astrology mythology is used extensively in deciphering characteristics of celestial objects. For example in understanding why Sun+Saturn combinations are bad we cite story from mythology which tells us how Saturn was born from a dummy (chhaya) of the Sun's wife etc etc. The same goes to almost all celestial objects. And everything fits into the picture. Another example is that we know why the planet Venus (Shukra) is of brahmin caste -- it is because Shukracharya was son of the Sage Bhrigu was Guru of demons (Asuras). So, this is all mythology.

So going by the same mythology these 3 planets being female (Venus,Moon,Rahu) doesn't quite fit into mythological framework.

Shukracharya (Venus) was not a lady. He was the son of Sage Bhrigu.

Soma (Moon) also appears as male in mythology. The story of him stealing Jupiter's (Brihaspati) wife Tara and fathering Mercury (Boodh) that way is well known. So Soma was clearly not female.

And as for Rahu, it is also known that he was Asura called Swarbhanu (male) whose head was cut by Lord Vishnu's discus. So the head became Rahu and the rest of the body became Ketu. So how come Rahu is female?

If we are using mythological framework in order to decipher characteristics of almost all objects in Vedic astrology, why this contradiction is appearing it while considering gender of these 3 planets? It sort of spoils the beauty of "perfect system", because it means we are augmenting the system using some "patch work" ; unless of course someone comes up with some beautiful *mythological* explanation for this. I know the logical explanation for this, that's not the point. But for all other objects there is logical as well as mythological explanation which beautifully converges. So please answer, if someone can.

Do you always ask such wonderful questions?
Plz note the correct nomenclature is not male or female rather masculine and feminine.
In nature, we find 4 type of people:
Male & Masculine (Also called as Alpha Male, almost emotionless and you'll find them resembling to demons or warlords)
Male & Feminine characteristics (Their characteristics resembles to deities, perfect balance)
Female & Feminine characteristics (Their characteristics resembles to deities, however they are more of maudlin )
Female & Masculine characteristics (Again demons like characteristics)

So plz note its not the Male of Female rather the Feminine characteristics that are respected and treated as virtue.

Now let me refer to Bible's Chapter-1 story of Adam & Eve.
In short Eve persuaded Adam to eat apple, they got knowledge and consequently God sent them out of heaven.
Some people consider Adam as Male and Eve as Female and consider Female responsible for Men's downfall.

Now take the same story by takeing Adam as Vivek (Reasoning) and Eve as Bhawna (Feelings) and the story says whenever a person (male or female) decide on the basis of emotions & not on the basis of reasoning/logic, there are every chances to go wrong.

Lets come back to Astrology; Sun, Mars are hardcore Masculine. Sun indicate authority and Mars means blood & wars.
Jup is wisdom and more of masculine which can control emotions.
All of these three, give a damn to feelings.

Now Moon and Ven are hardcore feminine as Moon is Mann and in our sub-conscious its always the feelings that dominates. Ven indicates materialistic world, arts, all softer aspects and for all these you need peace and harmony.
Rahu is again boundless feelings and expressions. Rahu is seldom concerned about rules (like the demon Rahu who worked more on instincts rather than morals). So do you get the logic for putting them into feminine.

Finally Sat is basically for detachment, so its neither interested in destruction/wars nor interested in materialistic world. And Mer is thinking abilities which can be tilted towards any side. Hence these two are considered as eunuch.
