Hi Learned Members

This is the first of a series of posts which I am going to make to explain why certain planets do so well in Dusthanas - the 6th, 8th and 12th houses - even these are considered difficult houses.

This post I am going to talk about Venus in the 12th.

12th denotes deception, stealth and hence treachery behind the scenes. Venus does well here because while behind the scenes, the person gains easy merits.... this is the interpretation of Venus in the 12th.... so how can it lead to bad effects?

12th also denotes spending, but as I mentioned in earlier post, Venus in 12th means spending but the coffers get replenished, so the Goddess Lakshmi has decreed that you will get more as you spend your resources..... so Venus here also denotes prosperity, spending notwithstanding.

As a result of the previous paragraph effects, the person gets no attachment to material goods when he dies... since he has been spending continuously throughut his lifetime anyway.... so Moksha (escaping re-birth) becomes not only a possibly but a high probability.

12th has to do with sleep and dreams... Venus here denotes pleasures of the bed.... so anything pertaining to activities in the bed including sleep gains extra momentum and a higher quantum of beneficial effects and results.

12th denotes gains in resources being 11th (gains) to the 2nd house of resources....but 12th also denotes spending being 12th (loss) to the Lagna (general gains). But we already note that Venus here gets the coffer replenished..... and hence the first epithet of "Gains to Resources" for the 12th house is more appropriate if Venus is found in the 12th. Venus is also the natural ruler of the 2nd house of resources meaning whatever gains Venus gets in the 12th gets passed on to Venus itself... so it becomes like an accelerator effect.... something like the Keynesian multiplier in Economics.

12th denotes the kind of shealth that is wrapped over us before we get born in this world as denote by the 1st house Lagna. 12th house is just before the 1st house and hence denotes the shealth that envelopes us like a wrap-up for food in the factory before it is sold in the supermarket. Venus in the 12th, the person gets a shealth wrapped by Lakshmi, which protects him from general miseries in life, something like a first line of defence...

So Venus in 12th is very good notwithstanding 12th is a Dusthana, a difficult house.

To be continued......

Mars in the 6th is next placement which we are going to talk about, which is very good even though 6th house is a Dusthana (difficult house).

Mars either disorder things or order things. 6th house likewise, it can create chaos by quibbling over details how work is done, or it can get a lot of things done.

Mars in the 6th is like two negatives making one positive. Mars finds things already in disarray and thus it orders things.

(Remember the other place where we used the concept of two negatives making one positive is the Bhavat Bhavam principle like 11th is the 6th of the 6th so 11th house is good).

Mars in the 6th aspects the 9th through its FULL 4th Vedic Aspect and aspects the 1st through its FULL 8th Vedic Aspect. Mars in the 6th thus connect the 9th house with the 1st house which is supposed to bring God's protection to yourself.

Mars in 6th destroys all enemies.....(Sun in 6th actually put enemies in its bay and put them in good use).......It thus alleviates all obstacles and make the native gain some headway in life. Nothing stands in the individual's way. The native just keep going undaunted by any obstacles strewn in its path.

If anything, the activities of the 6th just get Mars pumping more blood into the circulatory system - Mars rules the spleen, the generator of red blood cells.

Impressive achievements are possible when Mars is in the 6th in the sense of forging ahead in life.

Sun in the 12th gives a person the ability to hold a high position. This is so even in the Vedic Astrology classics, it is stated that Sun is Maraka Kana Stanth here meaning the attributes of the Sun, clashes with the attributes of the 12th house, causing death-like situation.

12th as you know is a Dusthana (difficult house).

Now why so many presidents like Tony Blair, George Bush, Putin etc. and foreign officials like Henry Kissinger, has Sun in the 12th house even though 12th is a difficult house and Sun is Maraka Kana Stanth here?

For a hint look at the karakas and natural ruler of the 12th. Karaka is Saturn (backup karaka is also Saturn) and natural ruler is Jupiter.

This means Sun here not only has charismatic power, it actually gets authoritative power from Saturn which in turn is banked into Jupiter.....and Jupiter is Sun's friend and Jupiter helps Sun in his duties which give Sun wise counsel as well with the combination of authoritative and charismatic power....

Thus the delineation that most people holding high positions have Sun here, especially politics or structured, big corporations....

Since saturn is the karaka of the 12th house, Saturn representing the masses, creates the opportunity for the Sun to rule over them by consent (or by force in olden times) with the assistance of Jupiter.

Sun in the 8th (another difficult house) gives a person an exalted soul and one who tends to leave a legacy. Let's see why.

Again 8th house the karaka is Saturn but in this case the natural ruler of the 8th house is Mars. This means again Sun placed here gains authoritative power through Saturn here besides having charismatic power.

The authoritative power here is banked into Mars (instead of Jupiter like in the 12th house as explained in the previous post).

Mars does the bidding of the Sun and Mars here gets direct orders from the Sun. Whereas Jupiter helps the Sun to rule the country, Mars actually brings the opportunity to the Sun (Mars the soldier conquers new land for the Sun to rule to be assisted by Jupiter). Thus when Sun is in the 8th house, the person has the opportunity to create legacies for his posterity.

Since Saturn is the karaka of the 8th house, Saturn representing the masses, creates the opportunity for the Sun.... even conquered lands require the oportunity that is created by the masses in the conquered land..... before the Sun (king) can take over...

Sun in the 6th (another difficult house) gives a person organizational ability. The person is able to work with enemies as well. Again look at the karaka and natural ruler of the 6th house.

Mars is the karaka (significator) here, Mercury is the backup karaka (backup significator) and Mercury is the natural ruler. Saturn is the SPECIALISED karaka for the 6th for hard work.

Mars as the karaka again brings opportunity to the Sun and Mercury is the Prince and always at the Sun side to give his take on any matter. All these then gets banked into Mercury meaning whatever Mars or Mercury himself gives to the Sun when the Sun is placed here (after all Sun is king), the Sun gives back to Mercury because he is grooming him. Anyway Mercury is also the natural ruler of the 6th and even without the Sun, Mercury gets first hand knowledge in the 6th with the help of Mars (Mars respect Mercury but Mercury detest Mars - soldier listens to the Prince but the Prince is wary of the soldier), but with the Sun in the 6th, the Sun adds his further input to the analysis of any situation.

Mercury and Sun which is Prince and King, thus works hand in hand, to create an organized palace ground.

Mercury in the 12th, a difficult house, gives a person the ability to have the opportunity to bathe in the River Ganges according to Vedic Astrology classics. This means the person is able to get the blessings of Gods and attain high honours. It behooves us to find out why this is so.

Mercury stands for learning. It is the planet that always try to be the best in whatever he does. He is the Prince of the pantheon of planets.

12th house the karaka is Saturn and natural ruler is Jupiter. These are the philosophical planets. They impart to Mercury, when Mercuryis placed in the 12th, of much learning, turning the philosophical precepts into actual practice in day to day behaviour.

Anyone who lets philosophical precepts guide his way of life, is sure to become a great person and attain honours.

By the way Jupiter and Saturn are philosophical planets because they rule the last 4 houses (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th) in the chart, when man has undergone some of the harsher elements of life, if you count the houses in a clockwise direction from the 1st to the 12th.

One last good placement for the series of this posts which I currently making regarding placement of planets in difficult houses, is Jupiter in the 6th. This would be the LAST POST on the series.

(Actually there are more, but to me those that I have chosen are amongst the better ones, also there are others which requires some extra special conditions in the chart so it is not a general dictum of that planet in that difficult house)

Jupiter in the 6th makes the person loves work. Jupiter generally cares for others so the 6th house is turned into a place where people can seek solace and comfort rather than a battle ground.

Mars listens to Jupiter and Mercury is the student and Jupiter is the teacher, thus 6th house which has Mars and Mercury as the karakas (with Mercury also being the natural ruler) would mean that Jupiter can always call the shots when it is placed in the 6th.

Sun with Jupiter on the 6th based on Sun's organizational ability based on the previous post about the Sun in the 6th would mean the person can set up a nice working environment for others to work.

Okay let me break an exception.... let me give you 2 examples of planets in difficult houses which do well because :

(1) Some other special condition in the chart which makes it auspicious.

(2) Which is good but not as good as the previous list which I have just enumerated from the posts which I made just before this current post.

An example of (1) :

Jupiter in the 8th house of Dusthana (difficult house) when Jupiter rules the 9th house (either Pisces or Sagittarius on the 9th). According to Bhavat Ratnakara, a Vedic Classic, this gives splendid fortune to the individual whose chart this represents.

Why Jupiter in the 8th is good (splendid fortune) when it also happens to rule the 9th house in the chart?

Now 9th is a very auspicious house of fortune and Jupiter is the karaka and natural ruler of the 9th which means that whatever fortune that is garnered in the 9th, is multiplied ten-fold because of Jupiter's functional rulership of the 9th (besides Jupiter being the karaka of the 9th) and this gets banked into Jupiter because Jupiter is the natural ruler of the 9th. (The backup karaka of the 9th is the Moon and this also gets banked into Jupiter, Jupiter being the 9th house natural ruler).

Now 9th being the 2nd to the 8th supports the 8th. This gets mutliplied ten-fold (the support of the 8th by the 9th) because now Jupiter is the functional ruler, karaka and natural ruler of the 9th and is Jupiter is now placed in the 8th. 8th has something to do with finance like insurance and huge gains of a "bequeath" nature. Therefore it becomes highly auspicious to the person whose chart this represents.

An example of (2) :

Venus in the 6th is good. Jupiter in the 6th as explained in the previous post is better because the person is hardworking, but Venus in the 6th bestows the person with a perfectionist tendency, because Venus rules beauty and Venus does not like a sordid work environment, nor an environment where the work procedures and processes are fraught with hiccups and errors.

Venus is neutral to Mars one of the karakas for the 6th, but Venus is a great friend of Mercury and Mercury is the backup karaka of the 6th as well as the 6th house natural ruler. Mercury also brings opportunities to Venus for Venus to gain.

Thus Venus in the 6th works splendidly as well. The person may not be as hardworking as Jupiter in the 6th, but at least Venus strives perfection in its work - which you may interpret as still being hardworking.

Dear Khoo Hock Leong,

Its very interesting article.

1. How would this theory work when these planets own good houses and placed in Dushthana?
e.g. Scorpion ascendant having mars in 6th. Would the effects be as per lagna lord in dushthana or positive as you have described? Would there be some kind of trade off?

2. How would Venus act of he is lord of 2nd or 11th and placed in 12th?

Regards

Dear Khoo, Nice to see you back.
Nice article. Well, what if venus is in 8th house and as you said mer in 12th, venus in 12, mars in 6th and jupiter in 6th is good. What if mars, jupiter aspects on 6th house (from 12th house) and Mer aspects to 12th house (from 6th), is the same consider about the above delineation?

I think sun and mercury forming budhaditya yoga and dharmadhipati karmadhipati yoga in 12h for Sagittarius may not be bad at all. There are good things coming out of it.

Welcome back Mr Khoo.

Your thoughts on Exalted Malefics in 8th House??

I cant find any answers on BPHS or any other articles, specifically Mithun Lagna , Mars in 8th House exalted with Saturn in Scorpio. What are your thoughts?
