For Kumbha lagna natives, Venus besides being a yoga karaka is a critical planet when it comes to a native’s relationships with both his parents and spouse.
Venus, being the 4L and 9L, becomes the functional karaka of both the mother and the father of the Kumbha lagna native.
Also, Venus is anyway considered the permanent karaka of wife in a male native and overall marriage for both the male / female native.
Seems like, a single placement (of Venus) can affect the most sensitive areas of a Kumbha native’s personal life.
In fact, relationships it seems is not the forte of Kumbha lagna natives, since even the natural karaka of mother Moon rules the 6th house, while the natural karaka of father, Sun (rules the 7th house, hence also the functional karaka of spouse), is a maraka and also a bitter enemy of lagna lord Saturn.

To start off with, I'll list my and a friend's (also Kumbha lagna) details.
My details:
My Venus is in 12th (Capricorn) -
Moon is in 2H (Pisces) conjunct deb. Mercury. Moon is also in exchange with exalted 2L & 11L Jupiter (R).
Sun is in exchange with LL Saturn (R) conjunct 3L & 10L Mars & Ketu, receives aspect from Saturn (R) and Rahu.
My Sun and Venus are both vargottam.
Relationship with Parents & Spouse:
Excellent terms with father. He's been the biggest influence in my life. But lost him early in May 2005. He was a prominent personality socially, a very noble man of high principles and I still feel, his good deeds are still illuminating our lives.
Love her a lot but sometimes it's a No love lost situation with mother. Occasional and sometimes extreme differences of opinion with her.
Not married, so no clue how it's going to be.
My Friend's details:
Venus is in 12th conjunct 5L & 8L Mercury, receives aspects from LL Saturn (R) in 6H (Cancer).

His mother remarried when he was perhaps 5. The stepfather raised him like a good father, provided good education, sent him abroad, etc but also controls his life and decisions. My friend values his stepfather immensely and has genuine affection for him.
As far as his mother is concerned, feels agitated at his mother's unreasonable demands but nevertheless loves her immensely and has compromised a lot on account of his mother.
Married relatively late at almost 35. It was arranged under pressure from immediate family.

Father backbone and mentor - Learn from him a lot from him what life is all about - Did Learn from him how to survive and swim during difficulty... Till my age of 20 he his terror after 20 slowly he his friend and mentor. He the who supports me in all and build courage in me when my loose confidence.
Mother lovely mother - who cares me and take cares me till today. Lot of passing clouds fight between me and mother out of affection after 5 minutes i go to her or she comes to me - for her i am always the best. She fights with other for me.

Regarding personal relationship, i have one now... but not sure about the sustainability.
The relationship with relatives is bad, I have relationship but it seems no well wisher for me, or I prefer to stay away from them. My relationship with my elder brother is worse though.

You are absolutely right about Kumbha lagna having difficulty in forging relationships. Also according to barbarapijan shatabhisha nak in kumbha is more prone to loneliness and depression.
If moon is not well placed it can add to the problems.

Kumbha lagna are more scientific in their approach and take every thing/ every person objectively, so its easier to build a relationship based on trust, compatibility and mutual interest rather than simple becuase someone is an uncle or aunt or grand parent or nephew/niece.
