Its been 3 months i've joined this forum. I've seen some wonderful people here and many are in the learning process. The prupose of writing this article is to facilitae the learners about certain methods used for checking the validity of the horoscope. Any horoscope reveals a lot of information in coded form, ifonly we know how to decode it correctly.
Many a times we're given information about the chart but the native doesn't reveal the birth details. Now the
astrloger want to ascertain whether the details of given chart are correct or not? and the could be the tentative birth details.
Here we need to remember a few astrological principles:
1. Month of birth
To find month of birth is the easiest. Just locate the position of Sun i.e. sign where Sun is posited in horoscope. Sun always take a fixed path e.g. Sun's transit into new sign is called Sankranti and in total there're 12 sankrantis. The most famous is Makar Sankranti in mid Jan when Sun enters in Capricorn. Then Sun transits with one sign/month.
Example Horoscope:
Lagna: Aquarius
Sun in Libra at 00-09
Moon in Gemini
Mars in Capricorn:
Sat in Libra
Jup in Cancer
Rahu in Sagittarius
Ven in Scorpio
Mer in Libra
Here Sun is in Libra hence birth month may be Sept or Oct. On 16-17 Oct, Sun transits to Libra. Since Sun is at 00-09 i.e. the Date of birth is either Oct 16 or 17.
Remember a few landmark months
14 Jan: Sun in Capricorn (Makar Sankranti)
13 Apr: Sun in Aries (Start of new yr as per HIndu calender)
15-16 Sept: Sun in Virgo
15-16 Dec: Sun in Sagittarius
Conversely by looking at the deg of SUn we can tell the tentative date or by looking at the date, we can find deg of Sun. Remember on Jan 14 Sun is in Makar at 00-01 (though this yr it moved on Jan 15). It transits 1 deg in 1 day. So in next 30 days it'll move 30 deg & will transit to next sign. So it'll come to Aquarius on Feb 14, the next sankranti will be at Mar 15 & So on. Remember in the dates 15/16/17 the deg of Sun is about 1-2 deg.
What is the deg of Sun today?
Sun transited to Feb 14 on Aquarius and 25 days have passed, so its deg will be around 25-26 deg.

2. Time of birth:
On Sunrise Sun is always in Lagna of Natal chart, after that move SUn in Ant zodiac sign with approx every 2 hrs
On same place, Sunrise take place at different times in different months but in general lets take sunrise between 6-8 am
Then between 6-8 am, Sun will be in lagna
Between 8-10 am, Sun will be in 12H
Between 10-12 noon, Sun will be in 11H
Between 12-2 pm, Sun will be in 10H (Called Zenith)
Likewise 6-8pm, it will be in 7H
10pm-12 midnight, SUn will be in 4H
This is very rough estimate.
In example chart Sun is in 9H, hence birth can be between 2-4pm. NOw considering it is month of Oct, modification can be made accordingly.

3. Finding Tithi of the month:
Tithi (Vedic day) is the difference between Sun & Moon. Remember on Amavasya, Sun & Moon are conjunct and on Poornima (Full Moon) Sun & Moon are 180 deg apart. Now Moon moves approx 12 deg in one day and it take 15 days to cover 7 signs (from Amavasya to Poornima). So it take approx 2.25 days to cover a sign.
If Moon is moving towards Sun then it is Krishan paksha Moon as Moon is going towards Amavasya, else Shukla paksha.
In example chart Moon is in 5H & Sun is in 9H i.e. Moon is moving towards Sun. Now calculate from Aries, has Moon been here it would have been Poornima. Move going towards Sun indicates its Krishan paksha. Take 2 days in Aries, 2 in Taurus. Since Moon is in Gemini it means either its 5th tithi or 6th.
Remember as a rule of thumb: If Moon is in Kendra from Sun (i.e. either in 4H or 7H from Sun) then the tithi will be Ashtami or 1 day earlier ot later.

4. Year of birth
Now this is the most technical point. Here we've to take help from outer planets Sat & Jup.
Sat takes approx 30 yrs to complete zodiac i.e. approx 2.5 yrs for one sign (Though it never take 2.5 yr, either it take 2 yr or 3 yr).
Jup take approx 1 yr to complete a sign.
Combining the two, we can get approx year of birth.
Steps:
1. Note Sat's position in given chart & Calculate the current position of Sat. Find how many yrs today's Sat has to move back to come to chart's position. Remember it wont be any one yr rather it can be a span of 3 yrs.
2. Now go back by 30 yr or 60 yr or 90 yr.
3. Similarly not Jup's position today & that given in chart. Find how many yrs Jup has to move back to come to chart's position.
4. Take the common yr as indicated by both Sat & Jup.
In example chart, Sat is in Libra & Jup is in Cancer.
Now today also Sat is in Libra and will stay here from Nov 2011-14. It means the example chart can be of 1981-84 (30 yrs back) or 1951-54 (60 yrs back) or 1921-24 (90 yrs back).
Jup today is in Aries and moving ahead Jup wil be in Cancer in 2015. NOw going back in multiples of 12 (Time taken by Jup to complete zodiac), Jup was in Cancer in 2003, 1991, 1979, 1967, 1955.
Now taking common in two, we get 1951-54 & 1955 nearby periods.
Now if we've software then try Oct 1954 & Oct 1955 to get the given chart.
=====================================
Example2:
Lagna: Sagittarius
Sun in Cancer 21-45
Moon in Leo
Sat in Leo
Jup in Scorpio
Month of birth: Sun enters Cancer on Aug 16 and at the speed of 1 deg /day it has moved 21 deg i.e. 21 days ahead; so it come out as Aug 7
Time of birth: Sun is in 8H so time will be between 4-6 pm
Tithi of birth: Moon has just gone ahead of Sun SO its Shukla paksha. Moon is in 2H from Sun so it's 3rd or 4th tithi
Year of Birth:
Sat today is in Libra and was in Leo in 2007-09
i.e. it was in Leo in 1977-79 or 1947-49 or 1917-19
Jup today is in Aries (2011-12) and in May 2012 it'll move to Taurus, So it'll be in Scorpio in 2018 & earlier it was in scorpio in 2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946, 1934
The common period seems in 1946-48
Check for the period in the month of Aug.

Dear Neeraj Ji,
Absolutely amazing article....Really hats off to you.
I am an absolute newbie in astrology...has been hardly a month...but few ideas struck me over the past few days.
1)Actually it occurred to me just now
that Sun & Moon are conjunct during Amavasya & aspect each other diagonally on Poornima. Sun is behind moon during Shukla Paksha, as I am born on Shukla Shasthi, so Sun is nearly 60 degree behind Moon. I wanted to test this idea & was searching with Keyword "Amavasya", so that if I find any person born on Amvasya or Poornima, I can test my idea & accidentally I landed on this page.
2)I also discovered few days back that Lagna Chart rotates every two hours.
3) I also suspected that as Jupiter & Saturn are slowest movers, I observed that people born in same year mostly have Saturn & Jupiter & even Mars if within 6-8months in same signs.
You have made my day.Thank You Very Very Much.
Thanks & Regards.

Hi Neerajji
I am new to this forum and a beginner...
If people born in April month, Sun is in Aries & Ascendant, would these persons will be always benefitted from as Sun is Exalted in Aries ( not considered other planets here and their positions)- would they be lucky, wealthy, high dignity, overseas projects and the lijely adverse effects of Sun as ascendant in Aries: eyesight issue, early baldness

Dear Caliber,
Sun stays in Libra from Mid Oct to Mid Nov.
So your Sun might be at end of Libra. 26 or 27.

I agree with ur observations. There need to be some pivotal point given for correct ascertaining of chart.
The charts will change from place to place and the corresponding dasha will also change.
These methods are just approximation and shd not be taken for accuracy.

Xiss,
You are in the right direction
When I started learning astrology these were the first few things I started noticing as well and it felt good to see a pattern.
I remember mentioning to one of the senior astrologers that a lot of planets in the charts of two people are in same positions and he said, big deal millions have it. But I din't know why then.
I realized it later and I thought, oh yeah right, 'Big deal'
But it really feels good to see patterns

Hi HN,
Thanks. But sadly I am more into Astronomical & Calculative part like Calculation of Amavasya, Gulika, Rahukaalam etc rather than making much head & tail out of the actual charts in question
For instance, coming to Gulika & Maandi, which seems to be the flavor of the season, you will notice that Gk & Md will stay at exactly same degrees irrespective of place & time for all daytime/nighttime births for a particular day. Now if say any other planet other than Moon(only one which changes degrees during a day) say Sun is at exactly same degree as Gk, surely it can't spell doom for all kids born that day. Sometimes feel that traditional rules & D-1 weigh much more than concepts like PW, Mrityu Bhaga, KD, Retro which are sort of latest additions.
Btw the disillusionment is also due to wrong feedback & fake profiles/details provided by people on this forum which puts in question ideologies/patterns that I had established. There are times when certain comets[Read people who write a post or two & disappear without giving feedback never to come back again] rocked the boat. There have been occasions when wrote to some natives only to find that the post which made you believe that all hell had broken loose was written out of sheer frustration.
But sadly my astrological gyan isn't heading anywhere
Need to do something about that.
But I am really floored by the prowess that some of you folks have developed in such short span of time
Thanks & Regards.

I remember reading above in some other post, but it indeed is the case. I have seen couples born in same month have excellent synastry[mostly say classmates-turned-soulmates] as almost all planets will be in same house.Humannature wrote: I remember mentioning to one of the senior astrologers that a lot of planets in the charts of two people are in same positions and he said, big deal millions have it.

Paro - you are wrong. Gulika and Mandi shift faster than the moon. Gulika and Mandi shift every 12 hours +/- 45 minutes depending on the place of birth. please get your facts straight.
And BTW - There is never a "flavor of the season" in Jyotishya. If we dont know what to do with Gulika and mandi, then we are not fit to practice Jyotishya.

Shukra - 30 days
Shani - 2.5 years
Rahu and Ketu - 18 months
Gulika - 12 hours + / - 45 minutes.
Lagna - 2 hours - +/- 17 minutes.

Actually what I meant to say is that Gulika & Maandi, once fixed, are stationary at the exactly same degree for entire day/night, while Moon is constantly on the move-it traverses 30degrees in 60 hours or 1degree every 2hours. So it is possible that all daytime/nighttime births for a day might have more or less exactly same position[degreewise in a rashi, not bhava] for all grahas & Gk/Md, but that won't be the case with Moon.

Deepak Ji,
There is a history to what I mentioned in above context. I just happened to visit an astrologer sometime back-a traditional astrologer who had astrology running in the family for generations & had been taught the art by his father & grandfather. The chap didn't have any fancy softwares or laptop or even a desktop & seemed pretty laidback & languid in approach. Just one look at panchang & D-1 & he was right on the money regarding most of the things he said. He just drew the D-1[without degrees] & Vimsottari MDs/ADs on a piece on paper[perhaps he had the degrees & the nakshatras & related Mrityu Bhaga degrees in his mind].
My mind wandered back to this forum & I just wondered what he could achieve with little additional knowledge of Gk/Md, MB, etc & with the softwares with all sorts of Dasha Systems, all sorts of Divisional Charts & other innumerable tables & charts that we have access to. But then, I realized he didn't need to, as the foundation which he had-in depth knowledge of planets, bhavas & rashis was enough to give even the best astrologers on this forum a run for their money. Maybe there is another reason why he doesn't delve in higher divisional charts & high-end calculations & charts-most of his customers come from low-to-mid income bracket & wouldn't know their exact time of birth.
What I learnt that day is that absolute in-depth knowledge of Planets, Rashis, Bhavas & Nakshatras perhaps comprises 90% of what one needs to know in astrology, while concepts like Gk/Md, MB, Yogas basically are refinements which rest on that foundation.
Thanks & Regards.

I have been screaming from the roof top from day one on this forum, stating that real astrology is not what we practice on this forum.
This forum is a place where we exchange ideas and fundamentals of astrology. Nothing else. Real astrology is practiced on the streets of India Not on / in - forums like this.
I can write a thousand posts propounding 1000 theories and analyse a 1000 charts, but real astrology is practiced by a thousand astrologers who cater to 1,00,000 people and their families on a day to day basis.
How do they do that ? Its simple, - A mere 35 Rs panchanga, a plain sheet of paper, no D chart beyond the D9, no exotic Dasha scheme, No Astakavarga or Shadbala calculation. Just nimmita, a through knowledge of the planetary significations, and the Bhava significations. Nothing more, nothing less.
We, including me,...... with the most sophisticated computer and the best software, will be put to shame by these astrologers. I have seen astrologers who dont even cast a chart, but merely look at the Panchanga of that year, month and day, and rattle off predictions which come true in matter of time. That is real astrology.
