Case Study , etc - My Humble Opinion

Hi Guys,

I was preparing an answer for Case Study on Marriage/Progeny, when our moderator Ramanan ji locked the thread. However I personally feel that this thread has thrown up some really serious questions and here are my views on it. Sorry I couldn't pay attention to the thread earlier.

I have got nothing to accuse anybody. From the beginning of astrology, there were professional astrologers and there will be till the end. There is nothing wrong with being a professional astrologer, the owner of this site, Mr. Manley himself is a professional astrologer. However IMHO in a discussion forum like LOVA, I don't think any confusion should be allowed to prevail between whether a person is a professional astrologer or an ameteur astrology enthusiast. There are very good astrologers in both categories. Shri K.N. Rao himself is an ameteur astrology enthusiast and has never practised astrology professionally while Dr. B.V.Raman was a professional astrologer. If a querist wants so he / she is free to consult a professional but every querist should get into this with eyes wide open. If one is a professional astrologer one should declare himself / herself to be such with a tagline. Pl do whatever you do clearly and upfront.

A contention put up by a member named Soulsearch is very very valid. Many of the queries go unanswered. This is simply because those of us who are simple enthusiasts also have a full blown professional life. Many a time we are too tired to look at a chart after the daily grind. While a professional can give instant attention. There is no remedy to this situation. Our only hope is that the number of serious enthusiasts would increase so the chances of questions getting answered becomes more.

Another very important matter which is actually the crux of this debate, is remedial measures. We have often debated in this forum regarding the role of Prarabdha and Dridha Karma. A soul brings forth an accumulated account of enjoyments and sufferings from previous lives to this present life. These have to be endured. Some of our karmas can be changed by action, some can be changed only partly and some cannot be changed. Those cannot be cured needs to be endured. This is clearly written in the shastras. If your 7th H is in the dumps, wearing a 100,000/- rupees diamond (for venus) or doing a 50,000/- rupees yagna will NOT make Miss India or Mr. Handsome arrive at your doorstep next monday. This means suffering can be bought over by money. Those who have even the slighest regard for the Lord, even such a thought is sinful. God is not a mercenary. He doesn't despise the poor and love the rich or vice versa.

In the Bhagavat Geeta, the Lord says to Arjun:

patram pushpam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
tad aham bhakty-upahritam
ashnami prayatatmanah

Bhagavad Gita 9.26

If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower,
fruit or water, I will accept it.

Our Shastras say God wants only devotion and diligence - not money. Suffering in this life can be alleviated by charity, good deeds, and reciting the Ishta Mantra (whichever one chooses). But it has to be done by oneself. And it works by making you stronger and calmer, not by chasing the dog out. When you feel hungry you eat, you don't feed the priest. So when you are suffering you yourself have to do the good deeds and Ishta Mantra. In this forum our friends Astro Sonu, Ramanan ji, Shilpa ji, Anu ji and Aliens ji have freely given people mantras to recite or simple rituals to perform. And many people have confirmed on the forum that these have helped them. But they didn't do it, it had to be done by the querist himself / herself. There is no shortcut to God's favour.

It can be pointed out that there are instances in our shastras where ones suffering was reduced by Rishis. But these Maharishis were great tapasvis, how much tapasya have our pandits done? A person in acute distress and driven to desperation will clutch at straws. My humble advice is to do whatever you do with your eyes wide open.

I shall end this post with a story narrated by a friend of mine. He is a middling astroger in Kolkata, part professional, he also does Govt. service and practices astrology in the evening. He was offered a chamber with a well known jeweller in Kolkata (Chandra Jewellers, Bowbazar, Kolkata) and offered 5-10% from every sale he instigated. There were other astrologers too with this jeweller. What he saw was one month the shop took in a large consignment of Pukhraj (yellow sapphire) as the wholesale price for that stone was going low. That month everybody's Jupiter broke a leg. Next month the shop took in a consignment of rubies - everybody's Sun went in for a toss. When the shop had a larger than usual consignment or emeralds, everyone's Mercury landed in the soup. So on and so forth. My friend left the jeweller and opened a small chamber in his own mohalla. He's doing so so. If he had stuck with the jeweller he could have made 3 times his Govt. salary - neat, every month.

What I have said above is entirely my own opinion and everyone is free to disagree. My only suggestion is to do whatever you do with your eyes open.

I agree with swamykool....Perosnally I don't think we should scorn on those that are professionals and charge money.

It's their choice.

those who pay and seek professional advice is also their choice....no need to wash dirty linen in public...this is not a Grahak Jago type consumer forum

Just because some people here think they are driven by a big desire to do good to humanity and charity and social service
....not every one needs to do the same.
and those who don't needn't be looked down or derided publicy

All learned astrologers here have had to put up with nasty and rude comments from time to time and It is sad to know that we are losing knowleadgable members of the forum because of some immature people.
There is one point I will like to say though. I agree with the point raised by soulsearch, but its imp to note that if this forum the queriests can "request" for help .. not "demand" it.
Just because some one's queries go unanswered doesnt mean that they start degrading other forum members. I believe that a query gets answered only when god wants you to get an answer, when he wants to to be able to understand the situation and maybe do penance through remedial measures etc.
What happened today on the forum is a very sad and depressing event.
